  1. Used to be able to go to find a Cache, then a list would show up giving the GC Number, Cache Name, Difficulty, Terrain, Date Last Found, and Date Placed. NOW you can either get Last Found, OR Difficulty, OR Terrain, OR Date Placed, but not all at once. Makes it very Difficult to plan a cache Run.
  2. Ft Snelling National Cementery. Saved it. Clicked on the arrow and nothing but error messages.
  3. There is what I thought would be a neat Wherigo in a national cementery about an hour from here. i followed directions but when I tried to open, no dice, not on ie, not on firefox, chrome, nothing but non support messages. I have one cartridge loaded, but it just has one walking around for no reason.
  4. Please, Please kill it off, it really sucks.
  5. HAPPY DANCE!!! I went back through all the posts and looked and looked tosee if I missed anything. Aha!!! GPX,I looked down the list of the "E" drive, which is the Garmin drive and there was GPX. Clicked on that, list of GC numbers came up so I copied from the PQ and pasted in the GPX and it worked. Thanks to allwho gave this non tech old man clues.
  6. You have to remember that the more you pay for your unit, the less user friendly it will be.I have a Garmin Oregon 420 and there is no way to delete any caches from it. My Etrex Venture would have a delete right on the unit.
  7. How many are in the PQ? Are you seeing any caches or waypoints listed at all? In the menu, “Geocaches / Find a Geocache”, what is shown? Some considerations: - The files (typically a cache file and a waypoints file) must be unzipped first, and should be “GPX” files. - Place the files into [OR Drive]:/GARMIN/GPX, and check the folder to see that the files arrived. - “Eject the drive” (right click the drive and select Eject, and wait), or wait a while before unplugging the GPSr. This ensures that the file is “closed”. I've been in a hurry and caused the same issue you're seeing. The file's there, just not accessible by the Oregon. - Caches/waypoints beyond a certain distance (~100 miles, I think) will be invisible in the list. To view these, scroll the map to where the cache icon is. - When all else fails, delete the old files (backup everything in [OR Drive]:/GARMIN/GPX that you may use later and delete all the files in it), run a PQ, unzip it and place the new PQ files into the [OR Drive]:/GARMIN/GPX, all over again. And Viola! When I'm pretty sure my Oregon is broken, I re-do the steps, and for no particular reason, now it's fine. Like magic. Okay flashback time to a parent teacher conference I had with my daughter's geometry teacher. I didn't understand a word he said and I don't know what you people are talking about. Same with the so called help pages. Have you gotten any "GPX" file saved and working? If we are to go step-by-step, it may be best to start with the steps to load and view just one cache. I can load the caches one at a time just fine. i always check my GPSr to make sure it loaded. I can search by cache name on my Garmin OREGON 450.
  8. Another problem I have found with the new changes. I have a puzzle cache which required people to view my profile page. Under the picture on my page there was a text which contained a key word for the puzzle. That was removed with the change. Really? with no notification? The old way was much much better
  9. I used to click on "Found by" tocheck on caches the team found to be sure I have logged al of the finds for the day correct. Why oh why did you take that away?
  10. In Win 7 or Win 8 you just left click twice. "heap of files" = 2 files if there are caches with waypoints or 1 file if there isn't. When I download mt PQ files, I get a box with open or save. I choose open and get this: 13704528_Owatonna50.gpx GPXfile 13704528_Owatonna50-wpts.gpx GPSfile I copy and paste both files to the Garminfile which has a bunch of files, including a couple old files that were on. I get a box asking if I want to put the new file on and I click yes.

  12. Well it happened again. I tried to transfera pocket query to my Garmin Oregon 450. I opened the email, clicked download, connected my GPS to the computer, clicked on Garmin, copied and pasted the query to the Garmin file and of course when I checked the GPS when I was done Nada Zip, Zero, nothing transfered. So I am ready to offer a reward to anyone who can get this to work
  13. Read the forums. See how many times questions are asked "How can I do this...?" "How can I find out..." and the answer is "GSAK". It IS a powerful tool, not needed by a lot of cachers. But there are those that can get a lot out of using GSAK. If all you want is to Run PQ, place PQ in GPS, go caching. You dont need GSAK. See that is the problem...Pocket queris will not go to my gps
  14. Yeah, twice in one week, the second "ONCE AGAIN I AM GOING TO ASK ABOUT LODGING INFORMATION. IS THAT TOO HARD?" (and it's in all caps...) doesn't seem very friendly either. Over 700 will attends already and you're griping that no one's waiting on you in only a weeks time? This is a large city. If I really wanted to go, I'd use Hotwire, Priceline, Expedia, Trip Advisor, Hotels.com, Kayak, etc before relying on someone getting back to me... Well, aren't you just mister nice guy. Usually when someone hold a big event lodging information is detailed in the notice. Usually there is a list of two or three hotels/motels, especially if one is considered a Headquarters. Never, never use Expedia, worse service out there.
  15. I just go ahead and look. I am not sneaky at all. If someone asks I tell them the truth, you may get a new cacher.
  16. I dont do anything with GSAK. Seems like a waste, what good is it?
  17. Well I asked on the cache page about hotels in the area as I have never been to Seattle. I have been to Ft. Lewis buit that is not the same. So far no response. If this is how Groundspeak runs events I may have second thoughts about driving half way across the country and use my money for something better.
  18. Given where you live, I can't imagine you're a stranger to days where looking for caches just isn't very practical. There's just so many with 'Available in Winter' icons. It's days like that for which solving puzzles were made. Seeing how geocaching is not my profession, I spend most of the winter days catching up on projects I ignored in the summer.
  19. These are usually set up to qualify for challenges (and they are happening more and more often). People need lots of caches with D/T extremes e.g. 1.5/5, 5/1.5 and lots of puzzle caches. But that can't be. Challenge caches are not supposed to make people change the way they cache. Requiring people to find particular caches in order to qualify for a challenge cache is disallowed under Groundspeak guidelines. Placing caches which may afford an opportunity to qualify for one or more challenge caches is not disallowed. Which is probably why lots of such enabling caches spring up in response to a new challenge cache. This may be classed as 'dumbing down' the challenge by making it easier than was intended. On the other hand it does provide a rather neat mechanism of self regulation. So a challenge cache where one has to find say 26 caches in one day, each one starting with a letter of the alphabet from a to z is not allowed under Groundspeak guidelines?
  20. That's pretty much how I load PQs on my eXplorist, using my Mac instead of a Windows box. Of course, my Android apps have used the API to download PQs, with no need to connect my device to a computer. I do all that stuff except gsak which I won't use because pqs won't work. i check and nothing is on my garmin. I have had people tell me to use gsak but if pq won't work I am not wasting my time and money on gsak. I have an oregon 450. Anybody is welcome to come here and talk me through it in person. Reading instructions doesn't help because half of the time I have no idea what you are talking about.
  21. Asking CO for help may work where you live but around here there are only two COs that will give you any help
  22. Yeah right. I haven't been able to get a pocket query to download on my garmin yet.
  23. Let me give you an example. Last spring our state association held its spring meeting in a county park about 20 miles from my location. Three individuals placed 25-30 new caches in the park for the event. Every cache was a mystery cache. The easier ones to solve,(there were about 3 or 4) had terrain levels of 4 or higher. Those with terrain levels of 1.5 had a difficulty of 4.5 or 5. I was going to invite a couple of friends that were interested in geocaching but didn't because I wanted them to see that geocaching is fun. The only way most of these caches had 10 or mor finds logged was because of the many tag a longs who went with the five or so who had solved them or went with COs who helped.
  24. To be fair, that person wouldn't have solved it... The idea of caching is to get out and find them not sit at the computer and get a bad headache.
  25. I find the easiest way to solve a puzzle is to ask someone who solved it. I give answers all the time, and if able will take them to the cache. It beats working yourself into a frenzy and you get outside faster.
