  1. Why - it isn't a Groundspeak issue - it is a gmail issue??!!!?? I'm not sure it is exclusively a GMail issue. My main caching address isn't GMail. Or am I missing something?
  2. It's been reported as a problem here: http://feedback.geocaching.com/forums/75863-report-a-problem/suggestions/1340095-owner-log-emails-no-longer-arriving?ref=title If you can add your votes, maybe we can get it moved up the priority list.
  3. I wasn't aware of the SE caching forum until now, shows how out of touch I am I see lots of familiar names there... I've had a reply from Laughalot who owns the rest of the SP series and the adoption is in process. Thanks guys!
  4. Hi folks, We're finding that we don't have as much free time for geocaching as we used to, and although we're not giving up entirely we would like to reduce our cache maintenance a little. Would anyone like to adopt these 5 caches? They have been going since 2002 and the logs are a veritable who's who of UK geocachers! We adopted them in 2004 after the original owners left the area. They are all ammo boxes and Swinley Forest is a fun area for cycling - we usually takes our bikes with us when we do maintenance runs. SP1 SP2 SP3 SP4 SP5 Mich (half of Another Mr Lizard)
  5. I've been reading this thread with interest as I've entertained similar thoughts recently. Our first find was not, in hindsight, a great one. In fact the owner decided to archive it because the location wasn't ideal. But to us it was wonderful because we'd managed to find hidden treasure. 150 finds later its inevitable that such hides will seem less exciting to us. We've been caching since 2004 but haven't been very active in the last year or so. Getting back into it recently, I was amazed at how many caches there are in the local area. How on earth can we sort the wheat from the chaff? Reading all the logs is helpful but time consuming. I really think the website would benefit from a ratings system, but (as far as I know) TPTB have always been against it. www.geocacheuk.com had a ratings system which seemed to be working well - but the site is down at the moment. Caches will only get better if we make them better. With that in mind, the Another Mr Lizard Manifesto is: 1) To seek out caches that look a bit different/exciting/well-located. 2) To visit the less-exciting caches only when they contain a TB or geocoin we'd like to grab. 3) To make our new hides as different/exciting/well-located as we possibly can.
  6. For the ladies I recommend Rohan Women's Trailblazers because they actually fit over my hips. So many women's walking trousers seem to be cut like men's trousers, I don't understand it. Mr AML is a fan of Craghoppers.
  7. As of Saturday lunchtime, Millets in Reading had 2 left but they were locked in a glass cabinet and the person with the key wasn't in work today! I got one from Blacks though
  8. I went into Blacks and Millets in Reading on Sunday. They didn't have them in, didn't know when they would be in, and suggested I call later in the week. They only seemed to know about the coins because customers had been asking about them.
  9. Thanks TotemLake, I didn't know that. As a software developer I know how annoying it is to have users say "surely it would be simple to do XYZ?", but ... surely it would be simple to add height and width attributes to the gallery images?
  10. This only affects images which have been uploaded by the cache owner directly to the cache page, and NOT as part of a cache log. When you view the gallery, these images are shown full size and not as thumbnails. The result is not very pretty! As an example, have a look at the gallery for GCTY7V. Tested on: Windows Vista with Firefox 2 and IE 7 MacOS X with Safari 3
  11. Hi piglet*, welcome to the UK. I think you will get more responses if you post your request in the UK forum
  12. Must be this thread. This has cropped up before and caused much hot air. I assume it's all down to reviewers interpreting the rules differently. I remember emailing the UK reviewers about a Java based puzzle cache hosted on my own website, and was told it would be fine. Now, if I could just get round to finishing that Java applet...
  13. All seems very quiet here in Reading... mind you I've only just got my receiver and not set up a proper aerial yet. Did you go ahead with the QSO in the end?
  14. G7NQH here, though my short foray into ham radio was a long time ago on 144MHz, where there didn't seem to be much happening in South Birmingham at the time. I resolved to get back into it after university when I could afford a good rig and had time to tinker with things more. 14 years later and I've just sent my application to Ofcom for a new license. It scares me how much I've forgotten, so I'm hoping to start off with some SWLing. I'm now on a hill just the other side of the Thames from BBC Monitoring, so I'm hoping there will be plenty to listen to Still have the 91/92 edition of the Call Book, which the RSGB gave me for free when I first joined, though I'm sure it's more than a little out of date now... If anyone has any advice on getting back into things I'd be very grateful. 73s for now! James, of Another Mr Lizard
  15. Why no more forced adoptions, just out of interest? I think collecting geolitter caches needs to become part of the caching mindset - and why shouldn't it, after all we're always banging on about CITO. If a cache needs to be archived, maybe the mods could post a note asking the next finder to dispose of it. The finder still gets to log a find, and hopefully they get a nice warm glow as well. Last-to-find should be prized as much as first-to-find
  16. You could try asking your local Freecycle group if anyone has an unloved ammo box at the back of their shed. It worked for me!
  17. If we're outing snack-pimping geocachers, the Maxi Babybel is my creation!
  18. I'm not bothered about logging every bug or coin that I stumble across, whether in a cache or at an event, but there are some bugs for which it makes sense. For example, if I came across one of the Interception bugs in a cache (sory I can't post a link due to work's silly firewall) but didn't want to move it on. At an event I saw some flags and notebook bugs which wanted to be signed by cachers. I signed them, and I'm sure the bug owners would like to know that I did but I didn't move the bugs anywhere.
  19. It was either Andi Peters or Andy Crane, bizarrely I can't remember which! They held it up and read my name out too
  20. I had a drawing shown in the CBBC broom cupboard, does that count?!
  21. www.geocaching.com is actually blocked by my company's firewall... I have no idea why, considering some of the stuff that they let through. These forums, for instance And before someone says it, they didn't block it because i was spending too much time there!
  22. Hmm, not sure. Looking at his feedback history, he's certainly sold a lot of them. I would probably use the "ask seller a question" link and ask if they're original disks.
  23. I think this guy has been visiting our caches... "Took house, left paper clip"
