  1. Go here to find out. i guess the sarcasim was lost in the smiley
  2. Well I can't edit anymore so here i go on the topic again... Some examples of types of rocks that could be listed... Obsidian Jasper Petrified Wood Jade Marble Quartz Limestone Pumice(the really cool light weight stuff) Thunder Eggs Opals Sun Stones etc... This is by no means a close to complete list but just an idea of what could be listed to get your mind rolling on the idea. Also if it doesn't violate the spirit of things we could also list rock shops, but maybe in a different category. That will need some discussion. The reason that i would want to list rock shops in that they can be few and far between and often little hole in the wall types of places. They are often quite unique, unlike McD restaurants. I have a few locations that I could begin to populate the category with to get it rolling. Others I know of I would need to get coordinates of. Another thought I just had... would we want to list mineral deposits in this category also or would that need another category. They are SO CLOSELY related that i am not really sure which way to go on that idea. I know you aren't gonna go listing 50lb gold nuggets, but what about areas of concentrated copper, chromite, iron, sulfur, etc... Should I add a new proposal for minerals? I really think that this tangent would be so little used that it could go in with rocks and gemstones
  3. It would be cool if we could have the number of active caches listed on our profile that we own as well as how many we HAVE owned. *Total Caches Hidden 41 *Total Caches Active 05
  4. I am confused... has the process been decided upon and are category proposals being accepted? I have one i really think would be really super neato, but if they aren't being accepted yet have i wasted my breath proposing it yet, or does it give me dibs when it becomes possible to have new categories added? i just want some clarity. Thanks
  5. I was hoping to get a listing of places that you can actually go out and hunt to cool rocks, petrified wood, and other types of geological collectibles. Possibly sub catagorized based on type of stones or by geographical regions but most likly not. Type of stone and any access information would need to be posted. Some US land managers have rules allowing this sort of activity as long as it is limited in quantity, in oregon and washington the BLM for example restricts you to 25lbs of petrified wood a day and 250lbs a year. They restrict you to 250lbs a day of stones. I would think that this would best go here... Directory Home > Places > Earth Science Places > Rocks and Gemstones OR here... Directory Home > Places > Natural Places > Rocks and Gemstones I really really want this category and think it would be EXTRA cool for all us rock hounds that are always in search of a new place to check out. Let me know what you all think and hopefully it can happen. Some required info that every person would need to post... Kind of stone Who is the Land manager(BLM, FS, etc...) How to contact the Land manager just in case there is a question. What are the restrictions on collecting Any relevant information that could be learned about the particular type of stone/area
  6. I guess a graveyard category would be best with subcategories. I would want a sub-cat that would be all about finding "your own" tombstone. I think i understand things better now, just not how to make a new LC sub cat
  7. i want a catagory where you would find your own name on a tombstone, easier for those of you named after relatives, harder for some others. I actually have one that i am not related to. What's in a name
  8. what are you talking about?!?
  9. that is what mostly it is to me. i kinda like the ability to graphicly see where i was and where the wifi spots are. using somebody elses network, that really is in all reality wrong. but you can find public spots wardiving too. it is a good thing the chalking thing is over. that is just bad press waiting to happen.
  10. I have found a new GPS related activity. WarDriving. For the uninformed if is looking for open wireless while cruising about. I recently found a Mac application called MacStumbler that allows GPS logging of coordinates so you can plot on a map or find by gps later. Great for FTF cache logging and for grabbing data on the run or when on a trip. Enough of me rambling.
  11. or when you email your local approver so that you don't get tagged as the cache cop because of posting SBA logs.
  12. you could always write your local admin and ask them to look into the problems
  13. for all of you who wish to just upload/download wpts from a unit to a mac try... http://www.gpsbabel.org and use the MacGPSbabel tool. It works great for doing stuff on a mac but has no DB functionality
  14. You could have had the account you wanted
  15. hide, yes you can use it with quovadis.... gpsbabel will output to quovadis
  16. I'll just be blunt, not a chance in hell. And not to be mean about it but some of the required things that I would use would not be available to classic and i don't want to reinvent the wheel. That plus the new intel chip macs are rumored to be unable to run classic applications. I plan to sit as low on x as possible and support as much there as I can.
  17. It has been mentioned once or twice but not in a while to my knowledge. I think it is a great idea worthy of being brought up again.
  18. I am a mac user and am considering working on a cache management tool. Not to be a copy, but a mac based program that would do things like what GSAK does(although I haven't actually tried GSAK, this claim is based on things I have heard and read). I am using a couple hacked together scripts to do all my cache management tasks and think it would be good to have a real application that others can use. Now here for the questions.... 1-How many of you would be interested? 2-Would you pay a small ($10-$20) shareware fee? At first until it was fully functional it would be free, but expire. 3-What kind of features would you want? It would of course be powered by gpsbabel for file format changes for different receivers and mapping apps. I want to gauge interest before I put too much time into this so give a shout out if this would be of an interest to you. Thanks for reading
  19. what about a GPX file that contained NO LOGS, NO TB info and thus would be much simpler. not a different type of GPX file, just a file with a couple sections missing. I would think that this would be an option... when I need a GPX for a new cache i just grab the single GPX file and process it, that is the only reason I would thing that would be cool, instead of grabbing 3 or 4 new files.
  20. I got my regular local PQs this week All is well in my world. I also got my weekly new cache notification
  21. Me thinks you may be on somebody's ignore list
