Mac Geocachers Please Read And Respond
planetrobert replied to planetrobert's topic in GPS technology and devices
life has interrupted this brief glimmer of hope for mac users, that being said, still workin on it... a new topic will follow when there is an update. Thanks for tuning it, you will now be returned to your previously scheduled software incompatibility. -
when I don't have enough money for gas for my car, or i just really don't have the time to cache, or some other lame excuse, it would be cool if on my PQ page there was a corrupt-a-query option that would make my weekly PQ totally useless so that i cant go caching anyway =) Just a thought, or maybe it could be like a lotto for a random set of users each day.

Waymarking Sticker

I think that door is to jeremy's secret office. -
This whole thing is a load of crap. If you pay taxes you paid for the park and as such should be allowed to use it. I am an adult(almost 30) male. I geocache in parks. I don't wait till rainy days when there are no kids around. I prefer the park to be empty, but that is'nt a big issue for me. I have no kids or signifigant other to help make me look less suspicious. I just don't act suspicious. I have only had the cops called on me twice that i know of and both times i had parked around a corner so the caller didn't see my car(or plates) and i made my getaway before the black and whites arrived(yes i did see them, but i was driving by after having left). don't fear these sorts of people, just be aware that they exist.

i am so very tired of explaining to people why they are not supposed to publish the locations of caves. I have hundreds of cave coords and access to many more and would NEVER publish any of them, well except maybe the countless vandalized caves. there are laws regarding cave protection and part of them are about publishing of locations. I say NO because of this AND because I don't want to get a phone call sunday night because somebody was in my area didn't return from a trip out to a cave and there is a S&R operation underway. Yes that has happened but I was out of town the one time I got a call. People that are not serious cavers should stick to well known commercial caves and tours. Anybody who is serious can try http://www.caves.org and find a local group to get together with. nuff said

Creating New Waymark Categories

I think you bring legitimate concerns. i think that all are interesting and would help manage all of them as part of a group, or solo if noone else wanted to(that is not the case here) I think that sub categories should be specific with a more general category, that is something that all the different groups of people will have to hash out during the category submittal process. Geology >Gemstones >Minerals >Fossils/Petrified Wood This sort of thing will make it easier for people to find what they want to search for. A lump category would require opening every point and reading info on it. This would be like having attributes be searchable for caches. This will be something that will need to be monitored for submissions that have overlapping interest but not nessicarily overlaping topics, just VERY CLOSELY related. Bruised ego's will occur and feeling may be hurt, but if we let everybody in on the multiple managers whatever thing that has a sub category that is related then i think it will not be a big problem. must stop... rambling... -
Creating New Waymark Categories
planetrobert replied to Jeremy's topic in Getting Started with Waymarking (Read-Only)
I would think that the fossils would get a subcategory of geology, as would minerals, and gemstones. Each with their own subcategory and responsible parties. I think that lumping all these ideas into one while it sounds like a possibly OK idea I think that down the road we would regret it. personally i would not want to be lumped with fossils but if it happens i won't get angry and pout, I just want to be involved in that category as a leader. -
No it wouldnt. ok maybe to you but not to me. the reason i suggest this is that it is more of an accurate representation of the cache hiders current cache status. some cachers have 100+ hides but only a handfull are active. i beleive it is an idea with merit, not just to have another number.
