  1. No-one seems to be answering question 1 so I'll have another go: Q1: 346
  2. 528 Thanks for the cointest!
  3. well I don't know if ebay works differently over there but here, UK and Spain, the seller sets the postage costs. In fact our ebay has a cap on a lot of items which means a seller cannot charge more than a certain amount. For instance I think the most we are allowed to charge for DVD's is £4. Fine for most single dvd's, but when it is a box set we sellers cannot even cover the actual postage costs. I've never heard of Ebay "calculating" costs and I've been selling on Ebay for 15 years, but maybe it is different over there? That said, I've just scrolled through 10 pages of Geocoins on ebay, most for sale in USA and Canada and I cannot find ANY that have postage as high as yours, not even close, so there must be some way of altering it. Standard postage for one geocoin seems to be $3-8 for international postage.
  4. any possibility of finding one of these in Spain?? They are very cute, nice work!
  5. Boy - 81 choices and smurfinator gets it on the first guess. Yes the cache was rated 1.5/1.5. We felt it should be higher after a 1 mile hike in on a 95 degree Florida day. Woohoo! I was just logging in to have another guess at a question but I won't now good luck everyone! Sounds like you had an awesome Geocation and I'll be interested to see the answers to the rest of the questions....
  6. Problem is we are not talking about steel and we are not talking about fish. In fact copper was suggested which is the most toxic metal for shrimp. Fish can tolerate quite high levels of heavy metal contamination, other aquatic creatures, such as shrimp, cannot. The OP doesn't state the size of the pond but does say "pond" not "lake" so I would assume it is not huge. And, just because your fish survived weekly third changes of water without any treatment does not mean they were happy or healthy because of it, it just means they survived. I've seen goldfish surviving in tiny bowls with no aeration, it doesn't mean that it what is best for them. We in the UK drank water that came through lead pipes for decades, we survived, but it wasn't good for us....we learn, we move on, we do things differently. Animals of all kinds can survive and even adapt and thrive in all sorts of conditions and environments, but I wouldn't knowingly harm or put at risk any animals for my own enjoyment. If I wanted to place an underwater geocache I would find a way to do it that could not possibly endanger/harm any animal life, just like I would with any other cache placed in any other area.
  7. Q4 - 1.5/1.5 thanks for the cointest
  8. Hey that's awesome, thank you! Let me know when they arrive and you can get an accurate costs for postage and I'll send you some money, thanks again!
  9. I have to agree, I received 4 geocoins this morning from USA to my home in Mainland Spain via airmal. The seller charged me $8 and the actual shipping cost was $6.10 ( so the sellers charge was very fair) $18 for one coin is actually against ebay rules as it is vastly inflated over the actual cost. Even the cheapest option is way over priced. I love wolves and I'm trying to get every coin they appear on but I'm sorry I won't be buying this one at this price. I know that you say that 40% of the COIN PRICE goes to the organization but it seems to me that you are trying to return that donation cost, and more, to yourself with the high postage prices....
  10. thanks for the links, I'll spend some time, and a few giggles no doubt reading the achives. Love the shirt too...
  11. I think this is great idea... is it too late to join in?
  12. Thanks for the advice The Geocoin is already designed as this will be part of the 12-12-12 multi event. I quite like the idea of the donation jar, and then I presume I could just sell the food too so that should be able to cover that side of the costs. the donation would then just to go toward the prizes and game costs...
  13. I love these, very "sick" lol, or should that be "uber sick"? Anyway, very cool and I'd love to find one
  14. Can I just mention a potential problem with the metal tag idea?? If there is any fish/animal life in the pond it could be a HUGE problem. Metals give off toxins which can be harmful to aquatic life. If you have ever owned a fish tank and used "tap safe", Water safe" or any other kind of treatment when doing water changes, that is what it is for - it removes chlorine and metals. Aquatic creature such as shrimp would find it deadly!
  15. Our little team has a few different items that we make as sig items: Bookmarks, keychains, bracelets, magnets etc. You can see some of them on our blog - it's still new so they are not all on there yet: Team Fat Dog Blog I think it is really nice to find something that is handmade and I hope most people who find our items do to. I don't have much artistic talent either - you just need to find something you can do. I make the designs for our bookmarks in photos shop then print them out and laminate them, then I use a hole punch and thread some beads onto a string and tie it on. they usually come out quite well...
  16. I now live in Spain but on a visit back to the Uk recently I found a few caches in an area near my old home that had had similar treatment. This person leaves a note to the effect that the geocaches are "trash" and shouldn't be cluttering up the countryside. He considers what he is doing to be for the good of the land, and accuses geocachers of littering. What I don't understand is that he must surely have an account, and therefore SHOULD know about CITO etc and about how much good cachers do in general. I'm sure there are "bad" cachers out there, people who leave rusty or dangerous things in caches and the like, but I think on the whole we are people who enjoy the countryside and have respect for our environment....
  17. I'm thinking of doing an event for 12-12-12. I'm thinking of an all day event whe people can come and go as they please and with plenty of games, caches etc. I'm also thinking of putting on food, probably a bar-b-q or buffet. I will also be getting some geocoins done. My question is this - Would it be ok to charge for the food and costs in some way? There will be competitions with prizes and I don't think I can afford to fund it all including the food. I've seen some great Mayan-themed articles that would make great prizes but I'll need to recoup at least some of the costs... I seem to remember reading somewhere that events should not be chargable, but I've seen many events where it states that a charge would be made for food etc. What is the correct way to do it? Charge an entrance fee? Charge for the food separately? Add some profit onto the geocoins? Or something else entirely?
  18. I'm going to revive this very old thread as I love this idea! I think I'm going to place a Hamster cache in Southern Spain, most of our caches around here are very boring.....
  19. er, I already sent them, in fact I sent them and then changed my mind and you sent me an email back saying you would use the second set I sent Do you need me to send them again?
  20. Not wishing to open up a whole new can of worms but the legality issue will vary depending on where you are. Strictly speaking it isn't "illegal" to trespass in the UK, it is a civil matter, not a criminal matter, and in Scotland I believe the "right to roam" still stands, which means if a door/gate/whatever is not locked anyone can pass through it. You could be sat in your living room and someone could walk in sit down and start watching your TV... Of course Groundspeak rules are a lot easier and they do state that if it is private property, permission must be obtained from the owner, so if I were the OP I would take that advice...
