My understanding is that the UTM (Universal Transverse Mercator) grid with its straight metric measurement is much simpler than the degrees and minutes of the Latitude/Logitude system. So if you were using a topographic map with UTM grid lines, marking a cache point would be simple. My GPS unit can be set either way. I agree with the previous post: both versions of the .LOC data should point to the same location. If you had your GPS set to the wrong datum, then neither of them would get you where you wanted to go...
