  1. Nashville needs some evil caches. I only encountered 1 nonstandard container. The least you can do is hide them closer to the muggles. (I just gave them a slightly unstandard hide. My daughter did one of these in close proximity to lots of people. It's gotten a lot of DNF's.
  2. Hey, y'all were great hosts for the southern Baptists. I enjoyed the caching while I was at the convention. The town was beautiful, but what's witht he changes in elevation? Don't you know everything is supposed to be flat like here in Florida? Thanks for the great time, and... I left a little cache for you too!
  3. Bought 2 4-packs of AA Rayovac NiMH's about a year ago. 4 for the camera (2 in, 2 in the charger or backup) and 4 for the GPSr (ditto). With the charger, I spent about $25. How much have you spent on batteries over the same time period?
  4. Actually, I feel it is important to give back. There's one caching couple in our county with over 1,000 finds. Last time I looked, they had 4 hides. That's a bit pathetic.
  5. I suspect I might shoot off a few emails. If I may get your opinion on this one, Key. Should this be a multi? This one is about 9 feet from coords.
  6. I have to allow some leeway as I have one that is about 9 feet from the coords, under cover. There was 3 caches I faced like that on this trip. 3 different owners. All over 100 feet from base coords. I didn't even include multi's on the PQ. I wanted to keep it simple.
  7. I forgot to look at the page before getting on the bus. I went Monday, but now am home. I wish I could have met up, as I hiked 16 miles in the Downtown/Vandy area, coming up with 15 finds (and about 10 dnf's) in 6 hours on Wednesday. I could have gotten more, but I had blisters forming on my feet, and it was just plain hot! (I have sunburn on my legs.) On top of that, I left the T/B's in my car back at church in Daytona. The only upside is I seem to have hit only micros and virtuals.
  8. I just got home from Nashville this morning, and as a rule had a great time... but..... I had a few DNF's where after looking at the pages, I would like to shoot the hiders. I will not specify caches as I do not want anyone to feel singled out. Anyway, here's the beef. I was going up with about 200 from our church up to the Southern Baptist Convention. I loaded about 200 waypoints into my GPS, all being traditional or virtuals. I wrote information on the virtuals into my notebook, but trusted the traditional waypoints to have something there or within a few feet under something. We rolled in on Monday night, and most went to a dessert social. I turned on the GPS and rejoiced when the number on the reciever was feet and not miles! I bounded off to the cache, and yes, it was dark. I couldn't find it. So, Tuesday rolls in, we go to the convention, and returning to the hotel late in the afternoon, I made a daylight attempt. Nada. I finally look it up on the computer, as this was a very frustrating cache, and find out on the page it is significantly offset, probably by a few hundred feet. Would this not be a far better fit as a mystery/puzzle cache? Doesn't the hider want his cache found You can flame me if you want on this subject, but keep it subject oriented, and do not look up what cache I might be talking about. I do not want to pick on a specific cache or cacher.
  9. I claim my daughter's caches as finds, even though I'm present when they are hidden. I do leave the MEFF slot for the next person. My daughter claims the ones I hide when she is along, or when she finds them on a maintenence run. We claim our own events as finds. Beyond that, it's like getting your sister pregnant. It's fun, you get the number, but people just look at you funny.
  10. I would say we and our daughter are responsible for over half the hides in the Daytona area. The one thing that hiding a lot of caches caused was to get others hiding as well. Our family has a combined 158 (well over 100 active) hides with me having 653 finds. (Agent K's finds have either been our caches or one's we've found with her.) This I know is a high ratio, but we look to it falling. We have significantly slowed our hiding so others may hide... and finally they are! On the other hand, I just hid one in Nashville per my daughter's instructions so they get a little taste of evil there. I look forward to the day we have less than 10% of the hides locally. (Not due to archiving, but increased hides!)
  11. Yeah, I think I remember seeing that... on the side of the road. Getting ready to go to Nashville.... anyone want a white jeep?
  12. Don't you get tired of people pointing and snickering at events? At the NEFGA Christmas event we still went by momofkje. I went without my wife (mom). Yes there was some snickering. I'm happy I was finally able to talk my wife into changing our handle. Prince John: How did you get the name Latrine? Latrine:We changed it to that back in the 10th century. PJ: You changed it to Latrine? L: Yeah, it used to be ____house. PJ: Change is good. Change is good.
  13. Well, no GW3 coins... but I have this practically brand new #24 car with a T/B already attached to it and ready to go....
  14. Ok, time to close this thread. C'mon, I just ate!
  15. Especially if the ivy is poison.... I've done a series of micros in the woods. They bite. I've done tons of urban micros. They ROCK!
  16. Da-a-a-a-d, she's staring at me. D-a-a-a-a-d, he won't share. Are we there yet? Only when I take all three agents. I prefer the song of silence.... but... as I have a very opinionated daughter who I occasionaly oblige to protect my sanity; we usually end up listening to Casting Crowns, Nicole Nordeman, Point of Grace, or "We're Here to Worship".
  17. OK, better question. Who's going no matter where its held?
  18. What do you mean other points of view? Just listen to what I say. I will give you your opinion! Actually I enjoy a good energized argument... as long as its clean. It's when people get nasty that I pack my bags and leave (after firing some pinpoint missles myself).
  19. Instructions to make a Palatka micro. Purchase business card magnets (about $20 for 100) at Office Depot Purchase craft baggies about the size of a business card (less than a $1 for 100) Purchase some duct tape (have fun with a variety of colors!) while at Wal-Mart. Remove adhesive cover from magnet and attach baggie (as if attaching a business card) and cover plastic section with duct tape (choosing appropriate color to match surroundings). Approximate cost per micro: 22 cents. Watching people complain about these ultra-thin magnetic micros that they have a tough time finding (mainly because they look right past them) and then complain about micros on forums: priceless. These are a very low cost way to have magnetic micros. The only thing cheaper than that is film canisters. While at Office Depot, print out a cache info sheet, copy it and cut it like this. Then you are set for a fun day with the kids. (Yes I made Agent K cut and staple her own logs....)As far as the durability of film canisters. I've had one film canister velcroed to the top of a wooden sign exposed to the elements for the last 8 months. If you wonder about how exposed it is, note that people have seen this cache from the road. One of the first logs asks "How long will it last?". This is the severe thunderstorm capital of the world. It's been through 50+ mph winds on multiple occasions. I've yet to maintain or replace the canister. The log is still dry. Film canisters do work (as long as you put the log in a sandwich bag ).
  20. WalMart. I have about 6 rolls so I can color coordinate the magnet to whatever it is sticking to.
  21. We've had 1 avatar and one avatar only. When our kids get older, we might change it to reflect their growth. That's Agent K posing in the back, Agent E in the middle, and Agent J holding the GPS. Hence M(om)&D(ad)ofKJE
  22. As long as I can launch them again.... (Hmmm.... New Smyrna Speedway.... Volusia County Speedway....)
  23. Michigan? I hope it's not a late fall/winter event....
  24. Well, Legna and sOulbAit always have the best cop stories (just by sheer numbers) but here's ours. Agent K was planting plastic easter eggs for her event back in March. After planting 11 of the 12 eggs, the skies opened up and we ran for cover. The next day (I guess I should preface this by saying she's homeschooled) we go out in the late morning to plant the twelfth egg. I park in an open field and we go into the forest. I left the door open in my car. A cruiser drives by and notices this car. It runs the plate and it comes up as belonging to my wife. They go back into the woods looking for her. In the meanwhile we've planted the last egg and are on our way back to the car. The police spot this huge grizzled man with a 7 y.o. girl walking in the forest in a time when children theoretically are at school. We spent about 15-20 minutes talking with the boys (and girl) in blue trying to honestly tell them what was going on. After talking over the radio, one of the officers came back to us and asked if we could identify who an "Agent K" was. K immediately said "That's me" and we were let go on that. Turns out one of the officers in the department was a cacher, heard the radio traffic, and verified our story.
