  1. I use an eXplorist 510 and it is compatible with my Mac.
  2. Email me if you still have the unit. Would like to make an offer on it. backwardsk17@yahoo.com Thank you Dadothree17
  3. After 200+ finds and over six months of caching, I am still relatively new to caching, but do have questions about terrain ratings. I have even hid three of my own and used the tool that is accessible to help rate terrain. However, I come across big time inconsistencies in how caches are rated, terrain-wise. For instance, I have one find that was a 3.5 terrain rating, that was a walk around a lake in a subdivision and the cache was in some tall grass just off the trail. Conversely, yesterday, we found one that made us crawl both over and under fallen trees, fight thick briar patches, wade through grass that was hip-deep, and was at least 1/2 mile inside all of this. It's rating was a 3.0. Just curious if anyone else had come across these inconsistencies, AND is contacting the CO with suggestions acceptable?
  4. Here's one that used a very cool cryptex in my area: GC1Y9K6 You might could contact the CO for more details.
  5. I have three mini-cachers (as I call them) - ages 7, 4, and 23 months. They all enjoy helping me find the cache, and my 7-year old can even beat me to the find sometimes. So, go for it. . .plus, he's cute, so that might garner a few hints if you bump into other cachers or the owner.
  6. Jeepers, if that bothers you, just hang around these here forums for a few more weeks and you'll find oodles of issues much more annoying than a lost FTF opportunity. If you are interested in the race to be FTF, I HIGHLY suggest that you learn early to shrug off being 2nd, third, or worse. Didn't say I lost sleep at night over it, just saying it was annoying and seeing if this was typical. But thanks for giving a HIGH jerk opinion.
  7. In the past few weeks, I have gotten the email about a new cache in the area and put out plans for that day or the next to run out and get it only to be disappointed. Not fast enough, you ask? Not that simple. Apparently, some caches are put out for geo-races, but not published until days, or sometimes even weeks, after the race. So, the publish date might be 12/15/09, but the FTF was on 11/20/09 by Team Whatever in the Geo-Race. I've only been caching for about six months now, and am sure this is not only perfectly legal in geocaching, but widely accepted, but it is extremely annoying. Just getting that off my chest and curious if this is commonplace.
  8. I have a tech question concerning my HC. Just today, it started a new habit of not letting me look at the list of caches I sent to it unless I had put a waypoint flag on the map. When I pull the list of sent caches up, it is empty (until I put that flag nearby). Thoughts/suggestions? Thanks
  9. OK - I have a few TBs floating out there right now, and am still relatively new to Geocaching (118 finds). All of mine have the basic "dogtag" icon to denote that they are in a cache, but I notice that there are a lot of cool icons out there (palm tree for one from FL, duck face for a rubber duck, etc). My question is: can you change the icon from the dogtag to something that more appropriately identifies the TB? If so, how? Thanks, Dadothree17
  10. Problem solved! Thanks for helping this greenhorn!
  11. OK, I activated two travel bugs before we left today for a day of GCing. When I left the first one, we got on the internet on the road to log it, but I inadvertently clicked and submitted the code for the bug I still had in my hand. How can I delete that bug and put in the right one? Thanks DOT17
