Stuey, My Earthcache co-ordinates are near Stonebench not Epney. There is plenty of space to watch the Bore but you'll have to park a little way off and walk in unless you're really early. I'm hoping to be there myself, this one sounds really special.

Which name would you pick now
The Wombles replied to sonatellas's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
We started caching as Dave & Nicky and then changed in 2002 with the arrival of our kids. We were fortunate both to have time to consider alternatives and be early enough to have a good choice. -
Brokerswood country park in Wiltshire
The Wombles replied to Mad Mephams Mayhem's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Whilst there is more to Brokerswood than the camping and caravanning area, it is private land and they charge an admission fee. -
We really feel for you; we were devastated by the loss of a much-loved cat. I remember meeting Caesar, he was a wonderful placid dog. Your picture is a lovely way to remember him.

That's a much appreciated action of respect. Thank you.

This one was set by my 8-year old, she'll be very pleased with your comment, thanks. Toyahmunky, there is also a series of 10 along the 5 mile Calne to Chippenham cycleway, depending how far you want to go. -
London Royal Parks - Geocaching refused
The Wombles replied to Graculus's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
I attended the meeting with Royal Parks for GAGB and although I couldn't say that there was any negotiation involved,I can answer a few of these questions. They arranged this meeting because of several cachers' approaches and because of approaches to various senior / government officials. They did suggest using points in the Park as links elsewhere ie virtual steps or Waymarks. However, they made it clear that they didn't want physical boxes and cited security concerns at all parks. Apparently someone wandering around with a GPS looking for something wasn't as much of a concern as physical boxes (even nanos, which I took along to demo). I personally believe in taking the long term view in negotiating agreements. I personally negotiated the New Forest and NT agreements mentioned earlier, and some agreements do take years. If we maintain a positive image for geocaching then we'll be more successful overall. -
Well done Terry

You could email all the finders between the log that your TB was dropped until the first log which says that no TBs are in the cache. TBs do sometimes turn up again, I had one which was missing for a year (apparently in someone's car door pocket until they found it again). It went on to do 48,000 miles.

As announced on the GAGB forum, I'm sorry to announce that BillD is currently unwell and has decided not to stand for re-election. After a vote by the committee, NobbyNobbs has agreed to stand in as Chairman temporarily until the elections. GAGB Chairman / committee Elections will be announced shortly.

Is Wiltshire the micro capital of the UK?
The Wombles replied to zarbi&zarbibird's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
It has to be that big to house Mrs B's enormous geocoin which wouldn't fit in most regular caches never mind a micro. -

We've hidden a stack of ammo boxes in Wiltshire including this one which gets regular DNFs -
I'M ANNOYED so time to make a fuss
The Wombles replied to kewfriend's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
I'm currently in dialogue with the Royal Parks on behalf of GAGB and trying to get a face to face meeting with the Head of Policy. We certainly haven't given up. -
NT cache permission and job interview?
The Wombles replied to Yorkie30's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
I negotiated the national permission with the National Trust for GAGB. I agree with the suggestions here, particularly that you can contact the reviewers regarding this cache on their behalf if necessary. The NT will have access to internal guidance on geocaching on their NT intranet (this is Guidance Note "RAG10") which I helped prepare about this time last year with the NT Head of Access and Recreation. This guidance is positive for geocaching so it is worth mentioning. NT Tyntesfield were the forerunner for the permission and the NT people put out their own caches to encourage people around the estate. if you have any questions about the national permisison or relationship then let me know. Good luck with the job interview. -
You have two days left to vote, would all GAGB members please remember to do so?
-
Excellent. Good to see the National Trust promoting geocaching. They have a stand at the MegaEvent.

We are pleased to announce that the Forestry Commission North West are starting a trial for geocache permissions. Further details are on the GAGB forums.

Billy Twigger's recovery
The Wombles replied to Firth of Forth's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
I was so sorry to read this. I came across one of his brochures for the Isle of Bute just the other day and was thinking of him. -
You don't say how old your son is - our kids are of the age that they prefer regular of larger caches which may contain toys / swaps. Choose a cache with a low difficulty rating which you will find easier to start with. Take swaps.

Not permitted because of the admission fee, even if it is a charity. Guidelines here. Oh, and welcome
