I'm wanting to call attention to a cacher's profile as part of a blog within my own profile. Do we have short URLs for this purpose? Something like http://profile.info/[insert cacher name here] would be perfect. tnx! EDIT... I see we do indeed: http://coord.info/PRxxxx! Neat!!

Geocaching.com site update April 17th 2013
Zero Montana replied to Moun10Bike's topic in Geocaching HQ communications
I can appreciate this response. I don't want to sound too critical, but I think a bit of transparency has been lost over the years. While some will always complain, I think that starting with just the facts and saying this is what we must do, and it is a temporary situation is so much better then trying to sell it as an enhancement. Seems to be down again.

I see them all just fine on my desktop. But not so on the most recent gc app on my iPhone.

You can upload the image to the cache page, copy the address, and then paste it in the Background Image Address field. Hmm... I may have to end up doing it the way you've described. However, I did set up an account on flickr and uploaded it to there. I then copied the url into the proper box on the cache submission form and sent it on it's way. Or so I thought. There is still no background image visible. Yet when I right-click and select 'view background image', it loads the flickr page containing the image. The only thing I can think of is that it won't be visible until the cache is actually published (I'm still building the page), but at the same time, I don't see why that would make a difference.
-
Does the background image need to be remotely hosted? I've uploaded several (non inline) pics to my cache pages before straight from my computer. But I've not yet used a background image, so I've no idea if I can use the same method or if I need to open an account at flickr or some such. tnx tv

Wow. Both are indeed impressive!

I'm not even getting the red 'X'.

Geocaching.com site update May 22nd 2012

It's my understanding that G maps will be an OPTION for PMs. You'll not be forced to use them. You'll be able to choose the other maps if you wish. -

Lackeys: Tnx for listening. For working with G to achieve a 'compromise solution'. Everyone else: Chill. Getting the OpenStreet/MapQuest/Leaflet/whatever stuff to a useable level didn't happen overnight. I'm sure the same will be true in regards to getting the new G up and running again to the level we'd been accustomed to. -
I use this app on my iPhone. But it's been so long since I last loaded a cart that I seemed to have forgotten how! Do I take the 'garmin oregon' option, or the 'pocket pc' option? And can I download it straight to the phone, or do I need to first save it to my desktop and then save it to the phone via usb? tnx! tv

I'd been working on updating a bookmark. Things were running great until the last 10 minutes or so. It would now seem that you lot are not the only ones to be dealing with it.

Mission 9 Project Ape cache missing
Zero Montana replied to Al 7365's topic in General geocaching topics
That was my first thought as well. Anyone heard from Forest Defender lately? -
Looks like you're as good a catalyst for change as anyone

List your pointless Mission 9 APE protest here
Zero Montana replied to Redfist's topic in General geocaching topics
Yup. And the entire ET Hwy had been archived, too -and look what happened there. Jus sayin' -
Tnx, Bhob. I was thinking that my 'grabbing' it back would work, but wasn't 100% sure.

Had a cacher grab my TB this morning. Great...! Only, it's a static cling decal on my car. Said cacher must have realised the error as she has since (many hours later) 'discovered' it instead. Nonetheless, it still doesn't show in my inventory. I suspect it'll continue to show as missing until she does a 'drop' or a 'placed'. Is that correct? tnx! tv

Just when I realised I still need to add about 29 caches to my GPSr. Oh well, I slept late as it was. I can wait. -
UTAG - Utah Association of geocachers information
Zero Montana replied to brownbag's topic in West and Southwest
First I've heard of an FB page for them, so I can't help -other than to suggest doing an FB search on 'UTAG' or 'Utah Association of Geocachers'. Tough duty, I know -
UTAG - Utah Association of geocachers information

What do I think...? As the newest (last?) member of UTAG, I'm not sure I wanna be seen in my UTAG cap next time I visit your state. -
While I've not played with the maps or run any PQs, I have been having the profile issues. Seems all my GSAK data has gone missing. Odd, though, is that while I can't see my info, others apparently can. I played around a bit further and it got a bit more interesting. Seems clicking on the 'view your public profile' link returns a page with no (GSAK/FSG) data. However, if I search for myself via the 'find another player' link on the main page, it mysteriously returns a page with everything intact. Go figure.

I'll echo what vagabond has said. I did the trail last June -on opening weekend, no less- and never saw more than 2 or 3 muggle vehicles an hour. That said, I will also add that some of the geo vehicles could often be seen on the active with haz flashers switched on while the driver/runner would make the grab -although never in a blind curve or otherwise limited sight scenario. Still, it only takes one incident to ruin it for all parties concerned, present and future. Please use common sense on this and all trails. As to the wx in June, it was hot -though certainly not intolerably so. Just bring PLENTY of water!! As others have noted, fuel is sparse. There is NOTHING anywhere along the route. Unless you have your own on-board 5-gal can (or two!), the only sources will be at either end, in Tono and Ash Springs.

Geocaching.com site update Feb 1st 2011
Zero Montana replied to OpinioNate's topic in Geocaching HQ communications
Really looking good. I'm diggin' the stacked D/T data. Looking forward to .93b so as to see the PMO caches on the new maps -
I had in excess of 1900 finds before I placed my first hide earlier this month. I just felt that as I was approaching 2k and had been playing since early last year, it was a good time to start giving back. Number two should go live sometime tomorrow.
