Everything that you can view in your web browser can also be read by a computer program. A program that reads a lot of pages can extract a lot of information from them. It's not hacking - just clever programming

What do you all think about this cache?

"Ladonia" is the cration of a quite well known Swedish artist, Lars Vilks. There is a cache close to "Ladonia".

quote:Originally posted by BigNick: I was just wondering today how many people have used Ammo Can's to hide caches in New Zealand, but you can't do a search on the contents of cache pages, only the Cache Name. You can use Google with "site: geocaching.com" and the key words you like. It works fine, but you won't find any recently added caches. Here are some New Zealand caches. None of them contains the word "ammo". [This message was edited by Gustaf on March 18, 2002 at 09:54 AM.]

I have used a stainless steel thermos as cache container for an underwater cache. I put coins in it to make it heavy enough to stay down. It is anchored with a plactic coated wire and the depth is about 12 feet, but I tested it at 24 feet, and it was still dry inside.

Yet Another Ratings Question: Are ratings cumulative?

Can I have fries with that, please? -

Looks like something is wrong with the small maps on some cache pages. Have a look at this one: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.asp?ID=16636

quote:Originally posted by bunkerdave: Can I paste a counter into my cache pages? Yes you can. Just use any free counter service on the web and paste the code in your cache description. Make sure that the counter doesn't use Javascript. I put a counter on one of my caches (link below). Click on the small graph icon on the cache page to see the stats. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.asp?ID=15784

In the cache listings, the caches are sorted by Date Listed. How about other options? Click on Cache Name to get the list sorted by names! It would be interesting to be able to sort by Difficulty & Terrain too. Or by Last Found - useful if you want to see which of the caches in your area that was found the last few days! Shouldn't be that hard to implement too.

Yes, i would like to audit my caches, but i did vote no! In this country we are still waiting for the Geocaching boom. When people get into Geocaching, they usually start by visiting the site, checking to see if there are any caches close to where they live. If so, they might go out and find one, then register and log their find on the web site. If they had to register before they could start looking for caches, most of them would probably not bother at all.

I think rating is a good idea. Why not try this: For every 10 caches you have found, you may vote for 1. So if you have found 34 (like me), you may pick 3 of them that you really enjoyed - your personal top 10%. I think that would be more fair than letting everyone pick 10 caches. And a lot of caches will get no votes at all, so we're not being rude to anyone, just giving credit to those who deserve it.

...you might find this interesting: http://www.bookcrossing.com I'm quoting from their press release: "BookCrossers register a book by going to the website...and getting a unique BCID (BookCrossing ID number) that is then written inside the cover along with the website address... Adventurous BookCrossers release their books "into the wild" on airplanes, trains, park benches, bus terminals...

Is there a listing of members only caches somewhere?

These are the new caches that are members only. There might also be some older ones that have been changed to members only. [This message was edited by Gustaf on March 10, 2002 at 01:45 PM.]
