  1. I think that using "favorite" as a verb is just full of awesomeness.
  2. I work in Wales and live in England- can I vote yes too?
  3. 31 for me- from GSAK with find numbers: United Kingdom 1578, United States:72, Germany:19, Czech Republic:11, France:10, Spain:9, Sweden:9, Greece:8, Japan:8, Russia:6, Switzerland:6, Cyprus:5, Italy:5, Poland:5, Belgium:4, Canada:3, Austria:2, Latvia:2, Mauritius:2, Netherlands:2, Trinidad and Tobago:2, Ukraine:2, China:1, Egypt:1, Finland:1, Hungary:1, India:1, Romania:1, Slovakia:1, Turkey:1, United Arab Emirates:1 If I'm very lucky it will be 34 in week or so but Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Syria are going to prove a bit of a challenge in getting near to a cache as GPSrs are banned in Syria I believe, so I may need someone to organise a campaign with the Foreign Office if get caught.
  4. July and August are relatively slow months on my caches- I assume because more people go on holiday who live in Cheshire compared with those who come to Cheshire on holiday.
  5. I've had 5 ammo box caches out for 3-6 years and they have never been muggled. Some of the descriptions mention the ammo boxes and lots of the logs in recent times do, as although they were once common they are becoming an increasingly rare sight. I guess if you have an ammo box thief close by you would be best choosing tupperware but in most areas I would think you are safe to use ammo boxes without fear of geocaching thieves.
  6. Very informative indeed, thanks. Interesting the advice that "I'm just out for a walk" and not to mention geocaching. I can somewhat see the point there, no point in letting everyone know what you're up to. A thought did spring to mind, if you're going to create a large cache series such as this, to also produce a leaflet which describes the entire route as a walk - no mention of caches! Then if residents are really curious they'll see the increased foot traffic is because they are now on a recommended walking route... Generally, I say I am geocaching if asked. Some people are interested and some confused . I've also had people then help me find a cache on a couple of occasions- a nice way of getting someone else interested in the game and a pretty minimal chance that they will then sneak back and trash the cache unless they were confrontational in the first place.
  7. I walked up to a cache and saw it in the hands of a middle-aged couple. As the cache had a coin in it, I asked them if they had picked it up and introduced myself as Pieman. They looked a bit bewildered as it turned out they weren't cachers and had found the cache by accident. I told them all about caching and they seemed interested. They said that they felt lucky that they had found a strange object in the middle of nowhere and someone had appeared to explain to them what it was all about!
  8. Groundspeak guidelines can't cover all local situations so the local reviewers interpret them. This covers things such as dry stone walls and SSSIs. Unfortunately, you are never going to get away from this so the reviewers opinion will prevail. Personally, I don't see that as a problem. Where I have been planning caches that I was worried may fall foul of the guidelines I have checked first with the reviewers who have always been very helpful. In the specific case of SSSIs, they are on average going to be in more environmentally sensitive areas than normal so a cache is more likely to cause disturbance; therefore, it seems reasonable to me that the reviewers go further than normal in checking permission has been obtained. I am sure there are SSSIs where a cache placed anywhere would not be a problem but the reviewers aren't to know the detail of every SSSI.
  9. I have geocoin with a mission to survive long enough to be able to visit caches on other planets so I am not one to discourage tough challenges for trackables. Regarding trackables going to the US, my experience of caching there is the complete opposite of Dick Turpin. I've done nearly 60 caches in North America and I found it the norm that trackables listed in a cache had disappeared, whereas over here I find it to be relatively unusual.
  10. I notice this very much when I visit different countries. Germanic speaking countries are very much into huge multis- often with a very complex formula to work out at the end! Now I like multis but I'm currently in Vienna working and haven't much time to cache but only 6 out the nearest 40 caches to me as I type this are trads.
  11. My first caching attempt was a DNF on your Uplifting Day Out! Some time later I placed a cache within feet of where an archived one of yours was on Frodsham Hill. Your old cache was then found when someone was looking for mine. I hope you enjoy returning to caching.
  12. I have a cache that is in the odd position of being on my ignore list and my watch list. It's a cache I placed that I adopted over to another cacher. To find it would be daft, so I don't need to see it on my PQs but I am still interested to read the logs.
  13. I have just done a search for caches near my work and home post codes: CW9 6JT is about 8 miles out still and CH8 9HE about 3 miles out, so I don't think this release has sorted out the UK post code problem.
  14. I'm sure he is but the Parks aren't as it is they that made the comment! On the face of it they really have got it in for geocaching. In practise, I suspect it boils down to laziness. It's a lot easier just to ban something that few people know about or are interested in than to actually put in some effort to make sure it is done properly.
  15. Thanks for the advice. All icons fine after upgrade
  16. If you are looking to aportion blame, then try Microsnot, it is their guidelines that I believe the product now adheres to. In essence though, nothing has changed if you simply upgrade, all the 'defaults' you chose during your original installation will be maintained and both GSAK and the Macro's will continue to work as they always did, as per several peoples observations on here about changing things and it still working... However, if you do a FRESH installation of GSAK, then the new defaults come in to play. Thus, it is YOUR configuration that has changed, not the product, and you will need to change your macro's placement and setup to match the NEW defaults, or to change the defaults back to how your application used to be configured. J So if I simply upgrade to the latest GSAK version on an XP computer am I right in saying I shouldn't get the dreaded blue dots? I have held off upgrading after seeing this and similar threads elsewhere.
  17. I am a UK cacher who is one of the owners of a traveller (in my case a TB) that has been turned into a poker chip while in this cache. My TB was a piece of costume jewellery from my late mother. When I sent it out as a TB I accepted that it would eventually become lost but I didn't plan on some weirdo doing this. I think even the person who has done this would have to accept that replacing my TB with a poker chip hasn't increased its sentimental value. Or its monetary value actually as who on earth would want a poker chip with a TB number on? I have asked the person who has picked up the chip with my tracking code on to destroy it. I'll release the copy tag.
  18. Is it just me or is there something strange about that statement? I've re-read it a few times it concluded that it doesn't actually make any sense I presume 'performance standard' means the standard at which they perform And yet they exceed standard that continuously which can only mean that the standard is getting better all the time... by doing nothing. Wowser! Mark Edited for spelling Well it could be that they are extrememly successfully implementing continuous improvement in which case they are continually exceeding what is the ever improving standard... or more likely the guy is talking gibberish.
  19. If you read the log by Peteranddi on Thornton Moor 6, the series was meant to be 10 caches but there are some issues to resolve on 7-10 before they can be published. Your TB is in a cache which is awaiting publication.
  20. GSAK is a very useful programme for sorting caches and the Findstats macro will give you the map and any number of other stats. It is also easy to use.
  21. If you are doing the walk you should do the cache that spans the whole walk Sea to Shining Sea. I did it by car but it would be great to find all the stages on foot.
  22. Liz Crowsley worked in the Willows practice in Northwich where we take our cats. In fact my wife saw her just a couple of weeks ago. The practice deals with small animals. She came across as a very nice lady who always dealt with our animals in a gentle manner.
  23. The answer I got from Groundspeak was they thought it was because the email address "ThePanteras" have used for their Geocaching.com account has actually been used on another account as well. Does anybody else who is having this problem know if they have more then one account registered to the one email address? To tell, if you do a password reminder from the rejected forums sign on screen, you will get two accounts details back. Jon. That explains my problem. This must be a new thing as I have previously posted under two names (not for nefarious means, I might add!)
  24. Pieman

    DNF?

184 DNFs and 1376 finds, ie 13% DNFs- allowing only one DNF per cache and counting DNFs even though I may have later found them.
  25. A friend of mine is having exactly the same problem. I have checked the system by trying to register a couple of my alter ego accounts on the forums and it's not working for me either. The "Register" button doesn't seem to work at all if you are logged in on GC.com.
