  1. just come back from a vacation to california and found that a lot off k-marts are being taken over by the sears group and that k-mart are selling off duracells at knock down prices ie 8 pack aaa or aa for $3.20 inc tax...
  2. i think you need to set the 60cs to shortest route...when set on fastest route it uses the premiss that you are travelling at 60 to 70 mph so in theory you get to your destination faster, but having it on shortest route will get you to your destination in a more direct route..
  3. one way of doing it is to download the smallest map set you can find onto the gps..this will over-write any maps you have on the gps.
  4. you can autoroute with metroguide usa version 4.*.....i have done so when visiting arizona in april this year..
  5. great idea...say you could buy a 60c/cs without a basemap loaded (price of unit would be cheaper of course) and via the garmin web site you pay a very small price to have a good detailed basemap of your own choice loaded onto it..so if you go to the states you have an americas basemap and if you travel to the uk/europe you download an atlantic basamap, get the idea! .....and maybe take this further by garmin providing 'blocks' of routable mapping at set prices (like a menu of areas)....most likely wont happen because of the large megabyte maps but with broadband who knows......stan.
  6. this is exactely what we need on the 60c/cs gps receivers...please take note garmin!!!
  7. eerrrrr..if customer can't change the basemap...is it not permanent then?
  8. as far as i know the garmin basemaps are permenent..but dont bother getting an atlantic (europe) basemap version from experience i can tell you it really is not worth it....see my post .. http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=72705 you're bound to get some kind of mapping software so this will be enough to get you about. regards stan..
  9. john...if you can find one cheap enough get yourself an americas basemap 60c .....you will have to download some kind of mapping software anyway, be it mg or cs so the basemap really dont matter....mind the vat, a lot of dealers claim that you wont get charged but reading ebay feedbacks alot of customers do get charged..if this happens then the cost goes up ...i brought mine from sportsextreme.com in denmark for about £60 cheaper than in the uk... the only uk 'autorouting' software is cs or cn..mg's dont autoroute...... the 60c is a great gps..i used to have a old b/w streetpilot and this colour screen is brill , a bit small when in the car but very usable...it runs on 2 AA batts and is truely portable....if you dont geocache now ,,you soon will...the 60c has a special mode for geocahing....at the moment i use mg5 europe and will do until garmin bring out a cs europe at a decent price..in the states you can buy cs for about $110 which aint a bad price..when i went to the states in april i loaded up mg usa version 4.01 which for some reason does autoroute. i travelled 2250 miles and it worked perfect... vw-ev...i appreciate what you are saying but honestly whats the point of having a routable basemap if it dont route!!..garmin should have left all versions of the 60c/cs basemaps blank and let you load your own local 'mapping' software...
  10. i have a problem with my 60c not autorouting properly on its uk basemap...so...i sent an email to garmin. here is my email and garmins reply...... i have a query re the autorouting function..on a recent trip from swindon to bristol i left swindon and as soon as i entered the m4 motorway i asked the 60c to autoroute to a prevously entered waypiont near st phillips in bristol..the 60c did its bit with a route using the m4 and the m32 and the a4...my query is that the 'purple' overlay route line generated by the 60c did not correspond with the m4, m32 or a4 roads on the 60c...i thought that the 60c had an autorouting basemap and was expecting a major road routetability function...please dont suggest buying city select as i cant afford this software....thankyou and i await your response.. and garmins reply...... Thank you for your email. If you were using the basemap this will happen. The basemap is drawn from a 1:1'000'000 and a 1:100'000 map and therefore is not accurate at all and not intended for accurate navigation. If you had detailed mapping for the area you were travelling in it would show a much better position. Thank you,Garmin... my opinion is......why buy a a garmin gps with a uk (atlantic) basemap,it really aint worth it.....
  11. whats so special about mg usa 4.* which lets it autoroute on a 60c/cs....is there an extra bit of software in it...i just wonder if there's a clever person out there that could delve into mg usa 4.* software and extract this ''patch'' so that it will allow other people with newer versions of mg to be able to autoroute on their gpsr......or am i expecting to much..
  12. i am pretty sure that gsak has'nt got a usb interface for the 60c (unless you are using a serial cable) try easymps its a bit basic but it works fine for me..
  13. the 60c screen works best when it has sunlight on it...when indoors or at night unless you have bright lights use the backlight which can be adjusted from dim to very bright.... even with the backlight on the 60c runs for ages on the two aa batteries...
  14. dont forget that usa mg4.* is also autoroutable...
  15. got this reply from garmin today... ''Thank you for your email. Currently you have the option of only two colour schemes. Night Mode and Day Mode. We appreciate your comments & opinions regarding our products. I have forwarded your email to the design team as they are always interested on customer feedback. Many of the comments/suggestions we receive (such as yours) are often evaluated towards potential implementation into future GARMIN products or current unit software releases. We cannot guarantee that what you have suggested will occur, however we do appreciate you passing along your opinions. Thank you, Best regards,'' lets hope they take notice...
  16. you are right ..i looked for it and could not find....my sincere apologies.
  17. is there any way of changing the background map color on the 60c...i think the roads etc would be better defined on a white background.i know there different color schemes but the map background is not changed....what do you think?
  18. why are the screen and controls upside down on this unit?....seriously , i thought that the controls are better placed beneath the screen (for ease of use) any comments?
  19. further to my last post...why not use a small cool box or a bottle/drinks insulator. not only will it be kept cool but safe as well, what thief is going to look inside a cool box when he breaks into your car....(unless he is thirsty i suppose)
  20. a 60c is a bit big and heavy for running..why not get a geko 101 or 201..they are small and light and dont cost the earth..
  21. you can have autorouting with metroguide software if you use versions 4.*...worked for me on a recent vacation to arizona.
  22. just looked at the 60c manual and the operating temperatures are between 5 degrees farenheight and 158 degrees farenheight so you have a fair range there..from my own experience , i had my 60c on a vent clip mount in a minivan when we toured arizona two weeks ago and we had the 'ac' on most of the time, the unit got quite cold but it did not affect the operation or the screen of the 60c..i think that as long as you dont leave it in direct sunlight the heat should not affect it..
  23. yes i do agree with you..sort off......my gripe is here in the uk the 60c was expensive, and the software is really expensive..i just wish we had a 'metroguide' software like your mg usa v4.* which is cheap and also auotroutes..maybe some clever person will write a software patch which will allow all mg software to autoroute.
  24. do you think garmin have done this on purpose so that you have to spend megabucks to buy city selct/navigator?
