    Colorado bugs

To answer my own question.... I have added the extra custom command (duplicating most of the onclick action) but if the onclick action is executed (because it runs on a PPC or because the Colorado player has been fixed) as part of this action the now unnecessary workaround is removed.

    Colorado bugs

I run into this issue - don't own a Colorado myself and had to deduce it from a user report. Then I searched the forums and found this post. I would support the idea of a bug tracker so one can find out about these issues before releasing a cartridge. Or maybe it could be added to Twolpert's excellent wiki pages? Anyway, what is the best workaround? Check for a Colorado (how?) and add a custom command? I would really like to save the PPC players from having to go through this workaround as well, as it kind of spoils the story to click a button called "ugly workaround for buggy Colorado software". Cheers Roolku
  3. Thank you for your reply. It has definitely happened on http://www.Wherigo.com/cartridge/details.a...93-2a0c1b017780 I can't say for certain for the other two I have tried so far. Somehow it seems worse on my own cartridge, but it could well be a wrong impression. I have been running it so often during testing and I am getting impatient. Yes, no other applications are running. before: 8.22MB/26.50MB (storage/program) with Wherigo running: 8.22MB/16.98MB with cartridge loaded: 8.22MB/16.53MB Seems all right to me.
  4. I am using a Mitac Mio 168 which is one of the recommended players and I find it incredibly slow when selecting an item in a list. One can literally watch how it is redrawing the screen with the selection highlighted, but instead of displaying the selected item or zone it will just stay on the index page. Eventually (after 20s) it will eventually display the item. I can sometimes speed up the process by minimising the application and when I maximise it again, the item page is displayed. I have the impression there is some background processing going on that uses up most of the cpu - maybe the drawing of the little arrows? I also notice that the GPS indicator seems to go to red for short periods of time in these circumstances, even though the reception ought to be perfect. So I guess my questions are: - is anyone else experiencing this? - why is this happening? - how can I as a builder "optimise" my cartridge to reduce or eliminate the effect as it is a major annoyance? I have 10 (not more than 7 active at the time) zones, 8 items, 1 character - so not particularly complex. I suppose it could be an issue with the PDA, but I have made sure that no other programs are running in the background and have no other ideas what else to change. Cheers Robert
  5. I am using wav files in my cartridge under the premise that it takes less CPU to play them (no decoding). Is this assumption valid? Unfortunately the files get rather big at 44.1Khz/16bit/Stereo. Is there any point in down sampling them to say 22Khz/8bit/Mono or will the PPC have to upsample them again in order to play the sound thereby wasting CPU? Does anyone here have any experiences or maybe inside knowledge on how sound is handled? Cheers Roolku
  6. Thank you for all comments. Ordered one now.
  7. Could someone please confirm that the tracking number is etched into the Gem and not just printed on the bag. I can't seem to work it out from the pictures.
  8. I think you will find that there are no German-style nightcaches in Scotland and very few "Lost places" (and then they are not labelled as such). The only lost place I remember off-hand is: Football Fever - the area is well worth a visit if you like lost places. Although there are many caches that can be done at night, the only cache I know in Scotland that you can only do at night is: Edinburgh Night Lights , maybe not quite what you had in mind. As for high difficulty, try these in Edinburgh: Follow the Arrow Souvenir Exchange 2 Or check out this bookmark list
  9. How are these "would be collectors" any worse than the people who don't release them in the first place? At least there is a chance that a few people will have moved/discovered a released coin before it "will probably be swiped".
  10. I am glad they don't make too many available so they are something special and don't become ubiquitous and boring like the diabetes TB. That requires however that these coins travel and I am very disappointed to read that people want to add them to their collection and keep them.
  11. Yes there is, see http://moagu.com/ (thanks go to chizu for pointing it out to me). However the effort involved for the small benefit of having maps that are slowly drawn make the mentioned alternatives in this thread the better option in my eyes.
  12. Yes, I didn't think it would do any harm there and I wanted to leave the page manipulation at a minimum, to keep the delay down.
  13. Ah, I didn't realise there could be other "lists" on the page (I don't have such a cache). Can you try the updated version (from the same link) and see if it fixes it? Cheers Roolku
  14. I have updated the scripts to work again after the changes to the website. There is also a script that moves the "my inventory" list of trackables to the top right, replacing the profile box that only has redundant info anyway. install MyInventory Let me know if there are any problems.
  15. Recent email notifications concerning caches with German umlauts (and I suspect other non-ansi characters) are not correctly displayed. The problem appears to be the missing encoding declaration. The email from 23 Jul 2008 displays incorrectly (corrected for forum display): Subject: [LOG] Watchlist: Igel7 found Dresdens sch& #228;rfste Ecke (Traditional Cache) This email from 22 Jul 2008 shows up correctly and has the right encoding specified: Subject: =?utf-8?B?W0xPR10gV2F0Y2hsaXN0OiBCK00gZm91bmQgRHJlc2RlbnMgc2Now6RyZnN0ZSBFY2tlIChUcmFkaXRpb25hbCBDYWNoZSk=?=
  16. Since the original thread was closed (why was it not merged?), here my comments again: Could someone please explain the rational behind the move of the "My Inventory" to the bottom of the page? It used to serve as a visual reminder that one had to drop off some TBs/coins - now I doubt many people will even notice it as there is usually not a reason to scroll down? I hope that doesn't lead to even more trackables going missing while in geocachers' hands, simple because people forget that they picked up a tb. Also I quite enjoyed looking at the icons I had collected during a recent trip, a pleasure that the move takes away for no reason I can understand. Not happy.

  18. I just came to the forums to report the same problem. Appending &decrypt=y to the cache URL repeats the long description as the hint. I hope this gets fixed.
  19. Well said. I agree. Whenever I find a (often tattered and barely legible) laminated copy of a coin instead of the real thing I express my disappointment in my log. Maybe the owner will get the hint eventually.
  20. There is a comprehensive description in the memory map help file:
  21. - right-click on the little monkey in the statusbar and select "Manage user script" - select "Cache Title" in the list on the left and click the "Edit" button on the bottom left - this will open a text editor (probably notepad) - scroll down to the end - the last line reads: favicon.change("http://www.geocaching.com/images/WptTypes/sm/"+icon+".gif", ar[4]); - if you only want to display the GC code, replace ar[4] with: ar[1] - if you want to display both with a hyphen inbetween replace ar[4] with: ar[1]+" - "+ar[4] - if you want the code after the name in brackets replace ar[4] with: ar[4]+" ("+ar[1]+")" and so on (you get the idea). Save the file and close the editor. Bingo.
  22. After this post I tried a few things and came up with a way to change the page icon (favicon) to the appropriate cache icon in addition to changing the title. I then applied the same mechanism to the TB/coin pages. This makes the tabs much more recognisable and distinguishable at first glance: Here are the scripts if you like the idea. - install CacheTitle - install TBTitle I have changed the title display to only show the cache/tb name, but it is easily amendable in the script by concatenating the elements ar[1], ar[2] etc which contain the components from the original title.
  23. If you you are a Firefox+Greasemonkey user you can use the following script as a workaround to change the title to the desired format until it gets officially changed back. install
  24. This was 4 days ago. Meanwhile we are getting incomplete data.
  25. Yes, please do. I am very disappointed with how so many old established and useful features are scrapped. []
