  1. there are lots near my house. I only found one so far and I hid one but had a maintenance problem and it was taken offline
  2. well in fact.....I am a DJ pursuing a career in nightclub/rave marketing, pr, and event planning. its my passion. in the dance scene, you often see what is known as "kandi". these are bracelets made of colorful plastic beads that ravers trade and swap at parties. I usually make some and put it in there.
  3. I made a mistake and left one in a store. I got a message saying it was found in the lost and found by a cacher who will put it in a cache again. Yay!
  4. I put a copy of River City Magazine in mine. I thought a lot of people cache while traveling, so its to appease them tourists

  6. I dont know any abandoned places near me. There used to be the remains of a house including foundation, stoop, and swingset.....but the land was bought and cleared out to build a neighborhood several years ago. Richmond has a famous abandoned area. Its actually featured in the book Weird Virginia, part of the Weird US series. The area was built during WW2 as a decoy city in case Richmond had an air raid. Its got a water tower, streets, and buildings and hasnt been touched since the 40s except by explorers who write about it. Its near Richmond International Airport which is way on the other side of the city and I dont have a car...I havent been to it but I'd love to go. There are the remains of iron mills but they are part of a museum so no caching there hehe
  7. if people are looking at me weird and getting creeped out I'll just go over and explain what I'm doing. no big deal
  8. I have read that some people have a genetic makeup where their skin does not get rashy from it. although most people dont have that genetic makeup.
  9. I havent heard of that. but where I live there is a curfew. its a law that says anyone under 18 CANNOT be wandering out of doors or anywhere public without an adult after 11pm. my friend from Florida was shocked we have this law in Virginia. one time my friend and I were taking a leisurely stroll around the neighborhood at 4:30 in the morning just because we were bored. we got stopped by police and and had to show ID because they thought we were teens.
  10. City caches might be easier. no risk of poison ivy or snakes or bugs. just pigeons. I was looking for an urban cache recently. the cache was in a sketchy alley that was giving me the creeps so I left without trying too hard to find it. do you guys like city ones? what about ones that are inside buildings? here in Richmond we have the famous Monument Avenue (tourists like it) that has giant statues of famous Virginians in the middle of the street. those would be good places for caches, and no bushwacking required!
  11. well I live in the South and black eyed peas are a staple of any feast, especially Thanksgiving
  12. yep, this is most definitely all around my cache. http://www.poison-ivy.org/html/creeps1.htm back to the drawing board
  13. Its been making my life hell for a few days and its only getting worse, so its gonna be a while before I hit the caches again. bummer anybody have any tips? anti-itch cream is a lifesaver
  14. When I was young I was riding in a car and we hit a bird - it flew into the windshield. we pulled over and the poor bird was just lying there on the car hood. the driver got out and went to pick it up and it flew away.
  15. Does anyone cache in the snow? And what do you do if you have a cache and it snows on it, making the find near impossible? I know its summer, but its not summer in the southern hemisphere, and it could be snowing for those who live there. Maybe they could contribute an answer.
  16. where I live, leaves just sit on the ground for months and dont decay. and this will be in the woods where no raking happens. they might flake off during handling, maybe I could put in the description to be careful handing the container?
  17. yeah, Knight, it is Sterilite. it just leaves glued on a plastic lid.
  18. no, its a plastic storage box and the leaves are quite brittle so I hope not.
  19. Actually my GPS only has road maps of the USA including Hawaii and Alaska, the Carribean islands, and Puerto Rico. You have to get software for global maps.
  20. I worked really hard on it. What do you guys think? I'm going to hide it in the woods. This woud be a wonderful fall cache! I'm going to put it out soon, but in some months I'd advise people to go looking for it when its fall. It was made with last fall's leaves that never got raked in the backyard, and a ton of glue. I used wood glue, do you think that will hold up in the rain?
  21. I also have a Garmin and closest I have seen is 2ft. it jumps a lot. what I do is take really slow baby steps and watch it go down
  22. I poked around in a kiddie sandbox in somebody's backyard looking
  23. Why yes, i did just read through the ranting about noob cachers thread but I'd still like to. To mark the coordinates, I pull up "coordinates" and bookmark the current ones. I did this earlier and it said the coordinates were 20 feet away. I'm starting to think my GPS doesnt get great signal, especially near trees. It was a Christmas present, and my mom said it was not a top of the line one. Also, its made for cars and driving, although I use mine when walking around downtown because I can't drive. I once found a cache 200 ft from the point (in trees) and today I near tripped over a cache when I was watching my GPS get 3 ft away (in a clearing) I decorated my cache by gluing leaves on it to camoflage it. Not very advanced, but it could work, right? I read through all the guidelines and its something I can work with. One thing it said was to have a theme. What kind of themes are there and what do they mean exactly?
  24. scissors and weed spray should do it. I would do this with extreme caution and wear rubber gloves
