  1. I think it's time for bookmarks to be updated. There have been several good suggestions of things that should be added. Including being able to view if the bookmark owner has done the caches in the bookmark. Also the ability to see if you have completed the caches when looking at others bookmarks. Uploading a PQ to a list would be nice for premium members. They could limit the size of the PQ. What I would like to see is a short link created for our bookmarks. There is a short link to profiles, cache pages, even cache logs! Why not create a short link to our bookmarks that we can share easily with others? I understand bookmarks get deleted far more often then logs. But the short link could include the link to the profile, then a subdir. http://www.geocaching.com/profile/?u=stargatekrewe/BL01 http://www.geocaching.com/profile/?u=stargatekrewe/BL02 ... http://www.geocaching.com/profile/?u=stargatekrewe/BL40 (we only get a maximum of 40 bookmarks currently) If I delete a bookmark, then the system reuses the first available short link under my profile. Then if I've shared something that is no longer available, I've only messed up my link (no different than sharing the nasty long links we have now and then deleting the bookmark). If it points to a new list the person I shared the old link with, then they simply know to contact me and ask what happened, and they aren't routed to some random reused shortlink (in the case that the above method is not used for short links).
  2. I wish this suggestion would get more attention. Definitely need this feature. What is the point of creating a bookmark for others to view if they can't see what caches they have done on the bookmark? I guess there needs to be a way for others to see if you have also actually done them (like you are sending the bookmark to a CO to qualify for their cache).
  3. I think it's pretty clear cut here, bad idea. I have a cache called Fahrenheit 451. I wanted to put in a pen-lighter (non-functional lighter, but working pen of course). I thought it was a brilliant idea. The reviewer, not so much. So I know you think you have a brilliant idea, but let everyone's opinions here settle in, and realize it shouldn't be implemented no matter how much you like it or want to do it. What I do think is great is that you came here first for opinions without just going out and doing it without the vetting process. So I applaud you for that. Too many cachers, who think they have brilliant ideas, go ahead and implement without ever asking their friends or geocaching clubs for feedback first. Only to find out they broke the rules, their implementation was poor, they were on private property without approval, they could have done this better or that better, types of glues, types of magnets, containers, camo, paper. So many people don't think about drainage. Water is going to get in, what are you going to do about it? I saw a fake benchmark, brilliant idea, but poorly implemented. They didn't consider drainage and there is standing water all under it, everything is rusting, and the log basically sits under water. Not even a bison tube can last long in those conditions. Long story short, keep talking about your ideas before implementing, and I appreciate you doing that here.
  4. Do you use GSAK and are you a member of a local geocaching club (may need to check regional or state level geocaching clubs). You will find someone who has a database of every cache in the state, and possibly a brief history of archived caches. I know a few folks in my state do, one even keeps a few years worth of archived caches. You can always start your own and track them from here forward (hopefully geocaching will be around well into the future). Just don't expect Groundspeak to provide an option to list/search for archived caches for all the reasons above. Ain't ever gonna happen. To address Team_Tisri's concern, just setup an email notification of all archived caches within your designated radius. You will usually be able to tell the likely-hood of a cache still existing by the archival reason or the previous logs. We do it all the time here (some archival logs are hilarious like when an entire building goes missing! lol). I saw a cache get archived because the CO was fed up with maintenance. I then noticed it still had a TB in it. I emailed him about it, he didn't seem to care, so then I went and rescued the bug. Again, GSAK can do this as well, but you won't get notified, it will have to be a habit you start practicing to refresh caches in your database and note the new archivals.
  5. Love this feature of a cache you own, but just discovered it is for Premium caches only. That sucks. I'm not changing my non-PMO caches to PMO just for this feature. Shouldn't it be based on Premium Membership Ownership? So if I'm a premium member I can see this for all my caches, PMO and non-PMO alike.
  6. Which macro are you running? The one I requested Kai Team create? It is true, for this macro to work properly you will need to Get the Logs for all caches in your dataset/filter that you want to run the macro against (if you want accurate results). It also doesn't take into account Premium Membership like Groundspeak tracks. 1000 logs on a cache can be downloaded in GSAK fairly quickly in one go. Now 1000 caches, will probably take a full day as the API maxes out at 5000-6000 logs per hour. But to your original point and request, I also wish Groundspeak would make the Find count a field that comes down with all the cache details (just like favorite points). I'm not sure why this isn't in the API already or if there are any plans for it. I know it's been requested before, and because it hasn't come out yet, I'm doubting it will (I'm sure they have a reason why it is not included, I just don't know if that reason has been disclosed before).
  7. I know you can enter coordinates all as one string on the main page and it will return the caches nearest those coordinates. How about a new field on the main search page: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/default.aspx that allows you to enter the three main types of coordinates, all as one string (just like mapper.acme.com) All these would work: N 35° 13.457' W 80° 34.918' N 35 13.457 W 80 34.918 N 35.22428 W 80.58198 35.22428 -80.58198 N 35 13' 27" W 80 34' 55"
  8. Please add another field for us to specify the cache owner name for searches. I keep needing this feature, and surprised it hasn't already been implemented.
  9. Another vote here for an "HD" version. Seriously shouldn't be that hard since they already have a regular version. Updates have been slow going and the last one mainly focused on twitter and facebook junk.
  10. It would be nice to see this feature working in the geocaching app for mobile devices. The website piece of it still works and is just a tease. If there is no intention of adding the functionality to mobile apps, then please just remove the link (quite easily I may add), from view on the website. There is no point in listing this as a Premium Member feature, but then not let us use it.
  11. Has anybody tried the new Rubbermaid Lock-It's? Seems comparable to Lock & Lock's. Just wonder if they are just as waterproof, sturdy, and UV resistant.
