  1. When you have more than one mapset installed you will have a menu item somewhere that will allow you to enable or disable them. Sorry about not being more specific, but I don't have a 60 to look at, on the eTrex series you go to the map page and click the menu button, then choose map setup.
  2. Seems to me that you have to save it to your hard drive and then copy the file to the appropriate place on the eXplorist.
  3. GPSy (gpsy.com) is one of the Mac GPS software packages I have used, but they are not currently supporting USB connections. My memory is that the 60CSx has both USB and serial connections, you can download a trial version to see if it will do what you need MacGPSPro (macgpspro.com) does work with the Garmin USB models, but doesn't offer a downloadable trial version. Either one will work fine for waypoint and track transfers, and allow you to overlay your data on maps on the Mac or send them to Google earth.
  4. You need to remember the source for the maps. Garmin has based their topo maps on the USGS/BLM 1:100,000 maps. Out of date, not a high level of detail, but lots of FS and other dirt roads. Magellan has based their topo maps on their street level maps with topographic material added. Better detail for what is there and way more current, but not as good for the FS and other dirt roads. Not as many named details of a geographic nature. If you find yourself coming over to Laramie let me know and I can let you play with both eTrex and eXplorist with the respective topo maps installed.
  5. My response from Garmin: I did have problems with the Nov. 27 version not recognizing my Topo maps, the Dec. 7 version works fine. I'm running XP with all the service packs, haven't even tried the UnlockWizard. They probably didn't change the version number because they didn't change the software, just how it was bundled for downloading.
  6. But when they reposted it yesterday it included the Map UnlockWizard. Last weeks file was 35mb, this weeks is 45mb. Might be worth reinstalling if you were an early adopter. Also, last weeks version couldn't find my Topo maps. This week it can.

  8. I currently have three segments loaded into mine. You have to select which area is active at any given time.
  9. MapSend requires rectangular areas, so you can't have just NC, but it would take about 70 mb to cover the whole state. Also, since the maps include good road coverage, there is some variation depending on how populated an area is. The rectangle from 80W to 81W and 34N to 36N uses ~14 mb. A rectangle covering NC east of 80W uses ~20 mb.
  10. Under the 'Options' menu there is a 'Show Topo' option. Be sure that is selected and that you are zoomed in far enough that the scale bar is 20 miles or so.
  11. I have MapSend Topo 3D v. 1.00 and it works fine on my eX 210.
  12. Not that its entirely new, but Magellan did announce the eXplorist 500 LE last week in Salt Lake.
  13. Actually, the Garmin equivalent is the GA25MCX, which is available for pretty much the same price.
  14. MapSource software version 6.11.1 as of May 31, 2006 http://www.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=209 Changes made from version 6.10.2 to 6.11.1: * Created revision 3 of the Garmin GPX extensions. This revision adds support for transferring track color. Address and phone number fields have also been added for certain Garmin units and are not supported by MapSource. * Added support for transfer with Garmin mass storage devices, such as the Nuvi. * Added support for the high speed Garmin USB data card programmer. * Added support for large format Garmin data cards, such as 512MB cards. * Corrected some Japanese translations. * Corrected a crash while doing European postal code searches. * Corrected compatibility issues between certain Garmin data cards and MapSource. * Corrected the handling of links in GPX documents for waypoints, routes, and tracks. * Corrected a problem on NT maps where the wrong label was displayed for county and state borders. * Clarified text that is displayed when changing to a map product that contains restrictions. * Removed preservation of landscape/portrait print setting, because this caused issues on certain printers. MapSource now uses the printer's default settings for portrait or landscape printing. To modify the default setting for a particular printer, use the Windows Control Panel's 'Printers and Faxes' Page to change the Printing Preferences on the Printer Properties Dialog.
  15. 2.71 Beta as of May 12, 2006 Changes made from version 2.70 to 2.71: Add feature to save active track log to file on data card. Add ability to put unit into USB mass storage mode via the interface setup page to facilitate copying track files from data card to PC. http://www.garmin.com/support/agree.jsp?id=1349 (60Cx) http://www.garmin.com/support/agree.jsp?id=1277 (60CSx) http://www.garmin.com/support/agree.jsp?id=1359 (76Cx) http://www.garmin.com/support/agree.jsp?id=1361 (76CSx)
  16. Some nuvi owners are reporting that with the latest software update (3.20) they are also seeing the GPS firmware updated to 2.50.
  17. Now also including the 60Cx, 76Cx and 76CSx.
  18. http://www.garmin.com/support/agree.jsp?id=1245 Changes made from version 2.60 to 2.70: Improve path nighttime color for map Topo Great Britain v2. Enhance layout and functionality of tide station chart information. Add new time zones for major cities in the U.S. and Europe. Improve By-Name city search to use all available maps. Improve layout of airport information display. Improve reset function of timer lap distance. Improve route calculation performance by setting recalculation distance farther ahead. Fix issue where extremely high or low altitude readings could occur when baro auto-calibration was enabled. Prevent Poor Satellite Reception popup from repeatedly occurring when GPS is off. Add GPRMB sentence to the NMEA output. Improve stability when using Lithium Ion Battery. Fix track log time stamps. Improve Custom POI banner display on map preview page. Fix issue where total ascent and total descent were incorrectly computed.
  19. There are ways to get around needing to insert the CD.
  20. Normally $75. Typically you get the update free if you purchase the old version after the new one is officially released.
  21. Garmin posted new betas for the StreetPilot 2720, 2730, 7200 and 7500. Among the features is: Added support for North American City Navigator 8.0.
  22. Just City Select North America should do fine (unless you're not in North America). The topo stuff is nice to have for some purposes, but most of the time geocaching is not on that list.
  23. that does make it hard to say for sure that nothing is lost when the track is saved, but clearly it contains the elevation, time and date, which are lost in the simplified/averaged version that is saved by garmin units.
