  1. Sorry to hear of your misfortunes. I'm in the Auto Glass business. And please, please, don't think I'm being mean. But most car breakins are the fault of the vehicle owner and not the theif. Please let me explain. Most people have a false sense of security when they lock their car doors. The real problem lies in what the vehicle owner leaves in plain sight for everybody to see. Such as your fannypack being left in plain sight. My company has replaced a lot of side windows that were busted out. Every time I go do a side window replacement I ask. What was stolen? And it is ALWAYS something that was left in sight for everyone who walks by the car to see. Cd, purses, cameras you name it. One individual told me that the only thing that was stolen was a 1/2 pack of cigarettes that he had in the cup holder. And ladies. Those of you that think you can hide your purses under the seat, at least make sure the shoulder straps are also hidden under the seat. Also, don't think that it is safe to hide stuff under the floor mats. bad idea. The buldge underneath the floor mat is a great indication that something of value is hidden under there. If you have nothing in sight when you park and leave your car, the chances are great that it will not be broken into. Not a 100%. Nothing is 100%. But the odds are good that your vehicle will not get broken into. That is because the perpetrator will not see anything that he/she can steal and be gone in just a few seconds. Most car breakins work this way. The BAD person walks past your vehicle and SEES something that you left out in plain sight that they want. They smash your window, reach inside, grab the item and then take off. It happens just that quick. My wife thinks I'm anal about hiding stuff when we leave the car. But you know what? I've replace way to many car side windows because people have left things in plain view. Even a half pack of cigarettes. I'm really sorry to hear that you, or anybody else for that matter, got ripped off. Hopefully this post will help educate others in not leaving anything in sight when they leave their vehicles unattended. Not just things of value but ANYTHING. 2. Walmart has brand new Meridian Golds for $198.00 no shipping. Just go to Walmart and buy it.
  3. I like my GPS and I like my Jeep. (But I love this bar. LOL) -Jeff GpsJeep
  4. I have a Meridian Yellow. It usually takes me to within 10-20 feet from the cache. Many times within 5-7 feet. I have no problems with it. -Jeff
  5. I've got a 2 MB Palm M100 and it works great. Not sure exactly how many caches it'll hold but I do have 405 on it. -Jeff
  6. $3.00 a month or $30 a year. C'mon. Get over it. If your friend can spend $100. minimum for a GPSr to go caching with you then they can afford a $3. a month membership to Geocaching. I got my membership just for the extra goodies that come along with it. If you want the extras, get a membership. If you can live without the extras, don't get a membership. It's as easy as that. Just like AMX. Membership has it's privileges. Is that a problem? If so go elsewhere. -Jeff
  7. Also check to see if your GPSr is set to magnetic North and not true north.
  8. Hi Buckskins, I believe Clyde is working on that upgrade now. You can ask him in his GSAK thread in this forum to be sure. Follow the link below. GSAK Q&A forum/thread Hope this helps. -Jeff gpsjeep
  9. You can find the Meridian Gold at most Walmarts for $199. The Gold also comes with a 16 Meg base map and an SD card slot for expanded memory. I also just did a search for Mapsend Topo on ebay and found one for $40. Have fun. And remember, don't get any on ya. -Jeff
  10. You can load not than 200 caches into the explorist, Just load a file for each area you are goind to be in' I must have about 1500 in mine, I just break them down into geographic area, it is not the hard to do. While you cannot load them into on file, you can load all you into multipule files. You can even load them according to cache type or Difficulty or Terrain rating. Why is there a 200 cache upload limit to the Explorist? If we use an sd card can we load more than 200 at a time? I just loaded 405 caches at once to my Meridian yellow last week. Thanks, -Jeff
  11. Is this what your looking for. http://www.bixnet.com/usbbatterybox.html -Jeff
  12. I have a Meridian. I also have a 64 meg card card with about 60 megs of maps loaded. Four regions to cover an area from FLA. to VA. and I have no problems with it being slow. As embra said, the screen redraws only have to deal with a small section of the file at a time and imo, it's not really noticeable if at all. -Jeff
  13. I suppose that really depends on your needs. What do you use your GPS for? I have a meridian and I do use the SD card slot. I have a 64 MEG SD card in my meridian at all times and its full of maps. About 60 megs worth. The east coast from Florida up to Virginia. I love the fact that I'm covered mapwise in those areas. I live in Atlanta and I can travel anywhere between Richmond, Va. and just south of Miamia, Fl. and not have to worry about not having a map. It's really a matter of convienence. With SD cards you can save more maps or even larger maps. Only limited by the size of your card. But, as I mentioned earlier, it really depends on your needs (or wants). I didn't think that I would really use the card slot but I had an extra card that I bought for my camera and decided to give it a try. I'm glad I did. By the way, Walmart has Meridian Golds for $198.00 Hope this helps. -Jeff
  14. Ammo cans $5.99 each plus shipping I'm sure. http://www.outinstyle.com/Merchant2/mercha...t_Code=MILI9095 -Jeff
  15. All the cool adult things, like pocket knives, drugs, and alcohol, we're not allowed to place in caches. Just kidding I'm in it for the hunt. Other than signing the log. I'll look through the cache to see if there is a TB but that's about it. Found a Dairy Queen coupon once. Took it. When the kids are caching with me, they'll exchange swag. Just get out and enjoy the outdoors the way God would want us to. Have fun. Enjoy life. -Jeff
  16. I'd go for the gold. The cheapest price I've seen for them was for $199. at several of the Walmarts. Have Fun :0) -Jeff
  17. Well, how are you uploading your waypoints to your GPSr? Manually? A bunch at a time through GSAK? If you have no use for what GSAK does or can do then don't use it. It doesn't get any simpler than that. If you have absolutely no use for any of it's features then nobody can convince you to shell out the $20 to register it. And if that's the case, why did you begin this thread/post in the first place? If you like the features, use it. If not, don't. -Jeff
  18. I just uploaded 405 pocket querry caches to my GPSr and to my Palm/cachemate software. Hit the export to palm button and send to GPS button and forget about it. That and not having to wait and wait and wait for the nag screen to disappear is well worth the $20. Personally that's all I need it for. But it can also do way more than that. Just ask the power users. Clyde did a great job putting the gsak software together. For me it makes the whole Geocaching experience easier. Just my opinion. And you know what they say about opinions. :0) -Jeff
  19. Good deal then. It should be emailed to me tomorroe sometime. Thanks for the explaination. -Jeff
  20. Greetings from Snellville, Ga. When downloading Pocket Query way points they're not downloading as .gpx files but as .loc files. I have my pocket queries output format set for the GpsExchange format .GPX. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, -Jeff
  21. It is set for the .GPX format. Thats what's baffeling to me.
  22. Greetings from Snellville, Ga. When downloading Pocket Query way points they're not downloading as .gpx files but as .loc files. I have my pocket queries output set for the GpsExchange format .GPX. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, -Jeff
  23. I believe on the Magellan website they say that with topo 3D you can create regions up to 240 Megs. So it's not really the GPSr itself but rather the mapping software that has the limitations. I could be wrong, but thats how I read it. Marky has 146 on his so it looks like you can biggie size this. -Jeff
  24. Velcro is great, I use it to attach my GPSr to my jet ski. Lake Lanier is near where I live (40 min.) and it can be easy to all of a sudden not know for sure where you are. Hundreds of little coves and islands. It's great to see exactly where on the lake you are at all times. Have fun. -Jeff
