  1. Try this, Go to your cache page and look at the people who have found your cache and click on their name. This will take you to thier profile page. From the profile page tkere is a link to email that particular person. Hope this helps. -Jeff
  2. Why would you feel embarrassed? That's silly. Nobody is going to find every single cache they look for on the first attempt. Sure, we would like to but it's not going to happen 100% of the time. When I cache with my kids, ages 9 & 11, they often times find the cache first. Even though I'm racking my brains because I can't locate it. Nothing to be embarrassed about. -Jeff
  3. Hi Broomrider, I talk to a lot of my friends about Geocaching. Although I don't go as often as I'd like to, I still find it a fun pasttime. There is a great web site that offers a of Geocache information. http://www.geocacher-u.com They have a great brochure that you can download to pass around. http://www.geocacher-u.com/resources/brochure.html I always keep some in my Jeep with me to give out to people when trying to explain exactly what Geocaching is. This brochure is also good to give to the local Sheriff when he catches you in the woods with an Ammo can. LOL. Anyway, have fun. IMO it's not really all that much about the number of finds you have. To me it's just about getting outside and doing something fun away from the house. Take care, -Jeff
  4. It looks like she is being crushed by Sumo Cat. Was she okay? Did she need to be put on life support after this tragic occurrence? Wow, That is one fat a** cat.
  5. Also, be sure it's set to magnetic north and not true north. -Jeff
  6. All in the name of Geocaching. I'm glad you were able to scarf up on that offer.
  7. Another Harmony sale. Explorist 600 On Sale $289. for those who are looking. http://www.shopharmony.com/product.asp?i=M...B&file=AUG42005 Have fun.. -Jeff
  8. Not sure what's going on. I've got a Meridian yellow which is the LOWEST end of all the Meridians. They don't even make my model any more. I've got a 64 meg SD card in it with 4 regions of maps which take up the whole card. Topo 4.20. When I leave a region I automatically go into the next. Florida, Georgia, S. Carolind, N.Carolina and part od VA. Drove from Atlanta, where I live, to Tampa, Fl. and went from one region to the next. I also loaded the maps to my card reader and then put the card in my GPSr. Don't know if that nade a difference. -Jeff
  9. I'll have to say no on the one. -Jeff
  10. If there is a Target store near you, they have a dollar isle in the front of their stores. You can find some decent stuff there. Once they had little pocket compass's. I bought about a dozen of them. There are also a lot of dollar stores around most towns. Honestly, most independent dollar stores are just junk. However, there is one store called Dollar Tree. They have all kinds of neat stuff. And literally, everything really is a dollar. I shop there a lot for my swag. Click here to find a Dollar Tree store near you. I hope this helps. Now go out and have some fun. -Jeff
  11. $20 gold coins would be pretty cool to find in a cache.
  12. Take it back to Walmart. Definately do this. Walmart will take back anything. I had a pellet gun that was about 6 years old. The darn thing jammed up on me. Ok, so I left it ouside one night and it rained. Anyway, I took it back to Walmart and they let me exchange it for another pellet gun of the same model. No questions asked. Take your meridian Gold back to the customer service counter and tell them you would like to exchange it for another Gold. When asked what the problem is just tell them that the screen is becoming discolored and not functioning properly. This will get you a new unit a lot quicker than haveing to deal with Magellan. I have a Meridian that I mount to my Jet Ski. It gets wet all the time. I was out on the lake and it started to rain. It took 20 minutes to get back to the boat ramp in the rain. The unit held up just fine. Take it back to Walmart. Good Luck. -Jeff
  13. DNF's. If I look for a cache and can't find it for whatever reason. I always log it as DNF. There's no problem with being honest and there's no embarrassment with it either. Sure, I don't really like wandering around in the woods only to come up empty handed but GeoCaching is a game of hide and seek and sometimes you come up empty handed. But the more you play this Geocache game the better you get at it. If you don't log your DNF's because you have a fear of admitting failure to the Geocache players, you need to get over yourself. Now, Lets Go Geocaching!!! -Jeff
  14. You know, TucsonBill, outside grilling is a whole sport in itself? -Jeff
  15. The funny thing is that when I was a kid, we spent ALL of our away from school time outside playing. After school, evenings, weekends. That's just how my kids spend their time. I make them go outside. I go outside with them. Playing, doing something. Anything. When your outside, your exercising in some form or fashion. That's probably one of the main reasons that america, as a whole, is an over weight society. So get outside and play.
  16. I've heard of things like that. Although I don't know anybody that has it. Why don't you ask a doctor or maybe a pharmacist. The worst they could say is no, -Jeff
  17. What could you use the your own stats for other than inflating you finds? Now what would be great is if we can turn our stats into airline miles.
  18. This is a MOST stunning photograph. I can't seem to get over it. You've got game with that camera. I've actually saved a copy of this picture and printed it out on photo paper. Yes, it's an absolutely stunning photo. -Jeff
  19. You want to find out which position is the best to hold your particular GPSr in? Do this. Turn on your GPSr. And let it "warm up" and lock onto satellites. Make sure your outside of course. Make sure you are looking at the Satellite status screen. Now, hold it in various different positions. Horizontal, verticle, etc. Take your time. Now which position is your GPSr in that show the best satellite coverage? That's the postion for you. It's not rocket science. Now go out and have some fun geocaching. -Jeff
  20. I do beleive in forgiveness. But to forgive is to forget. Or at least not to bring it up again. Example; Oh, sure I forgive you. But I'm still angry and eill never forget the way you acted. The example above is not the act of forgiveness. You can still give this person in question a second chance without forgiving him/her. But if they screw up again then that should be the end of the road for them as far as geocaching goes. But then again, I don't really know the extent of their misbehavior or the extent of the language they used. -Jeff
  21. Wallmart has been selling them lately for $199. With the new mapsend topo3D you can load several maps as large as 240 MB each. Do you know how large a 240MB map is? HUGE! I've got a 64 meg card in my meridian and I have most of Florida, Georgia, S.Carolina, N.Carolina, and Virginia up to near the Richmond area. The Meridian is a good unit. When I get more funds though I'll probably upgrade to an Explorist 500 Have fun. -Jeff
  22. dadgum. I was just thinking that. -Jeff
  23. You know, I really like geo-caching. I've never placed a cache but I have one completely ready to go. I just need to go out and place it somewhere. Your experience along with some others experience of misfortune with their caches has just made me decide to make my caches a members only cache. Not that there are not any jerks who are paid members but I would think that a premium member would treat your cache with a little more respect, trade fairly, etc. Next time you hide a cache try making it a members only cache and see if you have a better experience. Just my thoughts. -Jeff
  24. Hi there RadioCAD, I have a Meridian. The card I have in mine is a 64 MB but not from Magellan. It's a sandisk card. There are some members on this forum that have 1-Gig cards in theirs. Yes, you can go larger that 64 MB and you can pretty much use any brand SD card. Hope this helps. -Jeff
  25. Yes but not caching. Was out on Lake Lanier in North Atlanta this past Sunday jet skiing with a friend. We we're a few miles north of the Buford Dam where we launched the skis and then it started to rain. Then rain really hard. Then we saw some lightning. We turned around to head back to the boat ramp. Pouring rain and lightning. The faster we rode, the more sting our faces felt do to the pelting rain. After we pulled our skis out of the water the rain stopped and the sun came out. Go figure. -Jeff
