  1. Today while out Benchmarking I wondered several times about the info said that the benchmark was 8 feet south of Pole 255+01..and 3 1/2 feet north of Pole 257+05. We had found pole 255 & 257 but didn't know what to do. I asked a railroad worker and he said that 01 is equal to 140 feet so 255+01 would be marker 255 plus 140 feet (148 feet south..in case 1) and 257+05 would be marker 257 plus (140 time 5) or 700 feet...or in case 2..703 1/2 feet north of 257...interesting!
  2. I bought a Legend from Walmart..After I got home I found out that the Lanyard (chord) was not in there..I also purchased a Yellow Etrex there and it was missing too. I am sure that the boxes of both units had been opened at least. Be sure and keep the receipt of when it was purchased. I lost mine and when I sent my Legend in to Garmin due to a problem with the toggle, I was afraid that they wouldn't fix it under warranty..but they did. I had it back in less than 2 weeks at no cost.

  4. We don't stop playing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop playing... Hmmm... I remember watching The Lone Ranger, Rin Tin Tin and Have Gun Will Travel. --------------------------- you didn't mention SKY KING... I'm 48 and wife's 50..
  5. I am a Garmin cacher..had an Aviation 90..worked good but didn't hold signal as it only looked for 5 satellites and also ate batteries ..so I got a Legend ..love it, the maps, the signal, battery usage, display but the little toggle on top started acting up so it's in for warranty repair..no cost though ..so bought a $99 Yellow ..worked great, no maps but great for caching til I accidentally smashed it climbing a mountain ..ruined the display..that's not covered by warranty but they'll fix it for less than $60..bought another Yellow since we were on a geo-vacation when the other broke ($125 this time)..so when the other 2 get back..guess my kids will get to go geo-ing when they want too..anyway..you can by 2 of the yellows for less than a Legend if it's just geocaching ..

  7. I live there and we do have a nice group of cachers..and quite a few around here to find. All 12 of the travellers with the exception of Sailor Mate that I have at present have been shown a good time and headed on their way to new adventures..we'll see if we can bring up the topic of travellers at our next get-together..happy cachin'
  8. found a little green garter snake curled around the cache container..got a stick and encouraged him to let me have it..
  9. Jeremy you are wrong. If it doesn't interest you don't take it. Under no circumstance should you raid someone elses cache unless it is illegal, immoral, dangerous, or has an obvious problem that cannot wait for normal contact. *** it's the find..the owner should have posted the contents as being religious in nature and then if you don't wanna look for it..that's your choice..but don't raid the contents and don't log a negative log..if you disagree..just find it & take nothing..leave a McDonald toy or whatever for the next guy and go find the next one..
  10. One thing I learned from doing caching in Phoenix & Las Vegas are: GPS is direct..and .7 can mean 1.5 if it's up and down, back and forth and around the mountain.. Take water..you'll probably need it. and.. I don't think they know how to place an easy cache out there.. sure had fun though... happy cachin'

  12. Used my Legend on America West a few months ago..there policy said "no" but I asked..and they let me ...did great on the RJ..Flew 4 flights this week on United..asked and they said "yes" ..good results on the 737 but nothing on an Airbus...seems the GPS is supposed to be coded FCCB or newer..they said new units were okay to use.

Had the same thing happen twice..first time I was in my plane (Beech Baron) and felt that warm feeling ..since my left leg was close to the circuit breaker panel my first thot was that I was having an electrical problem..but then I troubleshot it to the 2 batteries in my pocket and my keys..

  21. Look at the ground When I get to the area and I know that the cache is a well hiddened one I'll stop looking at the gps I'll only recheck if in doubt. I'll start scanning the ground for any disturbance (read tracks) I'll check the last found date to see how old a human track will be. I never look at the cheat notes, although I may cheat by letting my hound sniff out a hard one. Works for me.. .................. is that SOGA--"Signs of Geocaching Activity"??
