  1. I'm an ATP with 10000+ and CFIMEI..but temporarily down for abit as I had to have a heart valve replaced last month. I even set up a special Aviation geocache at the airport I fly from. A Trip With Barondriver I have alot of geocaches placed away from where I live..Wichita, KS. Some are at airports. I did have one hauled off by a local aerial sprayer to be shot at, as he thought that it was something illegal after watching a night geocacher logging in, but then he and his son checked it out..laughed after they checked out the geo-paper and put it back it it's hiding spot. Flying has allowed me to place alot of geocaches in areas that had none and now there are geocachers in those areas..hiding them for me
  2. ..us..we're 53 & 55 and still cachin'
  3. ..you can always do what my Mom does..she says..we're looking for the cache..and then you usually end up with a couple of helpers who want to help you find it but then aren't nearly as excited when they find out it's not really CASH..
  4. I opened up a cache to find a pack of cigarettes, some bullets, and a bag'o green stuff..I assumed it was pot and removed all the bad stuff..there was actually a log from some hunters saying they accidently found it..hmm..also at another cache back in the woods abit..we had found the cache and were heading back and found several ladies purses..which I assume was a place where a purse snatcher had threw them after taking what he wanted..I turned this into the local police..
  5. ..but it's always okay to leave more than you take too..I always try'n leave the cache looking better than I found it..'specially if it's one that's been there for awhile..and I clean out the trash that often gets added unfortunately..
  6. ..just depends on the mission..there's no reason to get out the big bag'o stuff for a drive-by..then it's just some trading stuff or one of my geo-sig items and I always like to keep a couple of backup batteries in the pocket. If it's a long hike..I just consider the elements and the trip. The digital camera's always good to have along..and yes..I do have a spare key hiding..and I always check'n see if I still have the stuff that I got to the cache with..with me when I'm leaving it. I've left my GPS and my phone sittin' near the cache and hadta make a trip back.. ..and I always keep a spray bottle of some alcohol and some wipes and some PI stuff back in the truck for that three-leafed viney plant..I hate PI..
  7. ..the first cache that I found back in 2001 was in a buncha rubble..old tires..rims..cement chunks..etc..but don't give up on geocaching based on one or two...it gets better..I still find alot of caches in similiar debries at times..but its the 'thrill of the hunt' and even after 2600+ I still look through the 'junk' for that ammobox full of treasures..
  8. ..I have replaced four containers in my geocaching since 2001 and have never regretted doing it. Three of the geocaches had owners who had just 'dropped off the face of the earth' and one's owner had died and I felt that it was a tribute to him to keep it alive..his daughter still watches it's email from time to time. I just add them to my watchlist and enjoy watching the logs.
  9. ..if it's in a new spot..I go for it and log it..it's just a game..
  10. here are a couple of geocache guardians that I have found..the Coachwhip really wasn't a factor as he was down the road abit from the geocache..
  11. I have a geocache at a US Army Corps of Engineers Lake in Kansas that was discovered by one of there employees while he was out inspecting the area..he made a note and left a bunch of literature about the lake.
  12. ..I was cachin' in the Orlando area a couple of years back and had given up on find the geocache after looking for quite awhile but I noticed some cool fungal growth on some of the fallen trees in the area so I stopped to take some pictures. I didn't realize that I was standing over an anthill until lI started feeling something..lots of them little fellows made there way up my pantlegs and bit..I felt that for days..
  13. ..no caching on our Wedding day but... I did have 'Our Honeymoon Traveler" travelbug in my pocket during the wedding and handed it out to a local Geocacher to place when he greeted us in the reception line..and then he headed out caching and placed it that day..
  14. Here's one I found..a mouse had made a real nice house out of thei small plastic cache..the stuff was still inside to dress up the apartment..
  15. I bought a yellow one for a backup to my Legend..it does a good job..and if you accidently fall coming down the mountain and smash it..it isn't as costly to replace..and it makes a good GPS to let the grandkids use when you take them out geocaching after you decide to upgrade..getting a chord is a good idea for uploading the coordinates off of the net when your are going to do a bunch..and you can download tracks to Mapsource if you have it and see where you went or even let it drive mapsource on your PC while you are driving to see where you're at..
  16. I personally have 3 inside caches..a Visitors Center..a Library..and an Antique Store. The Antique Store owner was excited to have me place one there..but I do have it as a multi..with the first one outside..so cachers can log it if the store is closed. That is the big thing that I see..the cache is tied to the operating hours of the business.
  17. ..well those two are easy one..TFTF--took first to find...means they were the first geocachers to find it...and TNLN--took nothing left nothing...is the other one. I know that there's list on the forums..just search abbreviations..I'll betcha find them L8r
  18. Why not go to the Geocaching main page..enter a state to check..then get a [map] and zoom in...I use it alot when planning a geotrip...
  19. I recently set up a geocache You mean Pirates as in...ARG? You go to a starting coordinate and then use distance and direction for the rest of the hunt..at spots along the trail there are definable spots and then you just "mark" and head off for the distance and direction that is on the 'treasure map'..everyone that has done it has found the treasure and had fun..
  20. ..did you know that you can log this as a locationless geocache?..it's called 'A Pair of Quintuplets (Multi-Location Virtual)'..you can find it on the 'Hide & Seek' page under 'Seek a Cache'.. and 'or all locationless caches'....if you haven't done any of them, they are fun to do too.
  21. You are so wrong, Garmin is based in the Cayman islands, this is a dodge the many companies use to avoid a bulk of there US coorporate tax obligations. You do understand that in the Cayman islands banks use numbered account just like in Switzerland, Gee why do you think a company would want to be base in a country with numbered accounts? Garmin started out a US/Tiawanese base company. That is why most of there products are made overseas. magellan started as a US company and was bought out by Thales a french company, but Thales/Magellan maintains a very large work force in the USA. Edit to add: This is Garmins mailing address Queensgate House, P.O. Box 30464SMB, George Town, Grand Cayman, US I found this while researching there stock, look up symbol GRMN ...don't know about that Mailing address but the main Garmin's headquarters is in Olathe, Kansas..I go by it often and they have really been adding to their facility..I sent my Legend up there for repair one time..and I really like my Garmin Legend!!
  22. I had my Legend on on an airline flight awhile back..got it up to 613 miles per hour..it was fun to check the speed and altitude that the captain said we were at..
  23. ..anybody seen a Garmin Legend plug to a USB plug?...my wife's new laptop doesn't have an RS232 port...
  24. ..personally I love to find and place them..they are a great part of the game in my view!! Yes..there are some lame ones..but I'd still go 20 miles out of my way to go find them..just my vote...
