  1. Thanks for all the offers. I am handing them over to Master Mariner.
  2. The London Rainbow cache series. As seven of these are verts but with a final regular cache at the end I do not know what the rules are nowdays in regards to adoption. For reasons I am looking for someone to adopt this series. Otherwise they will be archived. Any takers
  3. I have had the 'yellow' since I first started (see the date under my avitar) I sold it once but bought it back again when my 'mate' upgraded. (Fool). I have tried many other devices such as tomtoms. They work but never as well as the 'yellow'
  4. Problem sorted with thanks to GARETH of THE MORGAN MOB. who emailed me with a phone number to him and with a talk through. It seems that I had to start from the HOME page on GCUK Then CACHES (Picture) Search for caches. and SEARCH. This gives you the normal download page. And WALLAH! when opened the zip file there were the six files. You must be logged in to do this of course ( I was). Thanks again to Gareth and The Bolas Heathens.
  5. Yes they go into the 'great Britain' folder. See my previous post... Is this the answer?
  6. I wouldn't object to a thanks for my and others efforts to help. I dare say one will be along at some point... Thanks SP that was a good suggestion. I do not know why it was not taken up?
  7. Done all that and on the Tomtom I now have two seperate POIs for Geocaches 'Geocaches' and 'Geocaches not found' The not found has not been updated. I have recently upgraded my Tomtom and all playing with it can be done on the PC as there is a duplicate Tomtom shown and used same as the touch screen. But I do not think this is the problem as I have also tried not connected to the PC. Edit I think I have found the answer. I opened a previous download from GCUK and when unzipped the 6 files where on this. I shall go and download again but not the whole lot and see if this works. Meanwhile any other suggestions would be welcome
  8. All I am getting are just two files. .ov2 and the .bmp when I unzip. (Winrar) and a folder with my Tomtom docs Now that you mention it I think this is what I have done in the past. something is wrong somewhere.
  9. On my Tomtomgo I have loaded all the caches that 'I have not found'. But it is now out of date as I have found some of them. I know I got these from GCUK but all I can not remender how or where they are. I can download the whole lot of caches Found and unfound in the UK on GCUK but as I said I only want to load the ones that I have not found. Please can someone help this forgetful old person who I think is starting to suffer from that Alkerselsa desease...
  10. I think the answer is to load the co-ords to the GPS via the serial port, and print out the cache detals on A4.. I now place crash helmet on head and run for cover...
  11. I tried that, but the naff X3 zoom and digital zoom on my compact digital camera is of no use! (should have taken my other camera with a X10 - that would have got 'em!) Way off the subject, but with a camera with 5 megpixels is the equivelent to a 35mm film. So it could blow up a portion of the picture. But I also agree 10X optical would be better. 20X digital... Forget it.
  12. ???????? I cannot understand this. Surly the object of the TRAVEL bugs are for just that. For the cacher to take a TRAVEL bug from one cache, and move it on to another so it can TRAVEL around our planet, world, whatever. I have seen TRAVEL bugs in caches but I do not log them as SEEN or do I take them if I know that I cannot move them to a respectable distance. Maybe in the future just for points I should take a TRAVEL bug and move it to the next cache I do just a 10th of a mile down the road.??? Oh! The game is getting silly now.
  13. Anyway - and semi-on topic - my pet hate is when I ask a direct question in a log and never receive any reply - I wouldn't say I get offended by it, but it does seem curious. civilised Many times, when I have been asked for a reply from a finder of some of my caches to confirm the correct answer. I reply, and then the mail is returned as the e-mail address it seems is no longer valid.
  14. Reading this I thought it might have been your wife or partner.. I have never met SP. But I like his posts and the GOOD publicity that he has done for the hobby.
  15. As mentioned a short while ago on the other thread on this subject. I have only just started looking at the GC connection and Google Earth that I have had for some time. Looking at some of my caches I find that they are not in the correct place and the co-ords are not the same. any one else found this? This could be misleading if useing as a guide to the actual cache. But then I feel that ones GPS would be trusted more than the Google plan.
  16. I now wonder where have I been hiding. I have had Google earth for some time, but I have not untill a few minutes ago did the overlay from GC. What a useful tool for caching. ( If you can reconise the terrain).
  17. I only place tat in the caches I have set. I visit the local £ shop and get stuff that I think the caching kids would go for. So when exchanges are made its no big deal. (Pun). I normaly TNLN as I just want to find the darn thing and sign the log. But I do have some good items in my bag in case I find something that could interest me. Which is not very often.
  18. Don't worry. After about 2-3 years you will start to think that there is more to life than hunting for tupper boxes and such. But soon you will realise that there is not much more, so off you will go again. After about five years, you will feel that you must have a rest and realy get a life. Then you will find that someone has placed some caches close to your home. Battery up the GPS, load the infomation into your PDA or print out the sheets, and away you go again. There is only one way for it to end... RIP.
  19. I cannot see why anyone would want to change their username. We get to know each other on here by our names. I for one would be confused if the names got changed. If one was so desperate to change, then one could start a new account.
  20. Notes, what notes? Can't you remember things? I only have to look at the cache sheet to remember what I did in relation to the cache. TNLN. Easy find, TFTC !. why should the paper get wet in the first place? 2. Mad dogs and Geocachers go out in the midday sun. Newby & super keen cachers go out in rain. 3. I don't go out when it's raining as I am not a newby and not very keen these days. Ok So you are dead...
  21. I also have an Aquapac that is a bit bigger than the one shown above. I did use it for my Ipaq and GPS RX. Did you know it also keeps PAPER DRY.
  22. Now you should all know how I feel about this Paperless caching. Just to remind you, I have been there with my PDA, but I DID prefer the A4. Some of you may be pleased to know that I have found another way for almost paperless caching. What do you need when out in the field? A simple GPS (Yellow Etrex) and some details of the cache. I have now got a small notebook. On each page I write the Name of the cache, GVC, Co-ords, and the cryptic clue. What more does one need? I can get three cache details to a page. I could put this into my Ipaq but the bit of paper is more reliable.
  23. Hide some? Can't. Not allowed, as I would not have 7/12 access to them for maintainence. P.S. I did some time ago but this rule came about.
  24. I will be at my Villa on the coast. (Clacton) But there are no new caches to do there as I have done them.
