Garmin Nuvi - True Paperless Geocaching
beerbrewer737 replied to pilotsnipes's topic in GPS technology and devices
As I stated earlier: great job with the macro. My trial run went well. I do have one question. *when I approach a cache Miss Nuvi states, "arriving at (name of cache) comma gcxxx (waypoint)" is there anyway to edit what she says? Like most women she talks too much! Sorry could not resist. -

Well I have the macro running and it looks good! I restarted from step 1 and it works. Plan to go on a trial run soon. -

Thanks for the reply. Due to a death in my family I am out of town and am using a public 'puter. I will check when I get home. -
Garmin Nuvi - True Paperless Geocaching

This looks like a great set up. I followed the steps but I get an error message "WAIT token must be yes or no". I am sure I did something wrong but can't figure out what. Any help? -
Not as much as I do...as bad as it sounds I was kind of excited about getting a new one.

Can someone explain this please? Thanks.

I picked up my GPSr and all is right with the world. I bought the lady lunch and a $25 Kroger gift card so, obviously, I came out ahead. What started as me relating a bad experience, then asking for input on a new GPSr turned into giving some people (I hope good) advice. I was lucky my GPSr survived the impact, lucky it was not run over and luck an honest person found it.

Get a load of this: I got an email from a lady that found it!! She thought it was a cell phone but gave it to her young son who figured it was "one of those gps thingies". I put my email address on the powerup screen so it must still works! I'll pick my baby up tomorrow.

So today I was to go on a 2 day geocache trip in western Tennessee. I had my Palm and GPSr loaded for bear. After my sixth find on my way to number seven I glanced on the passenger seat to eyeball my GPSr and it's not there! Then I see in my minds eye signing the last cache on my tonneau cover with my 2 year old eTrex Vista on the cover. I put the cache back and drove off only to have my faithful companion roll into a ditch or get run over. I feel upset..my Vista and I logged a few miles together. She (yes she) deserved better. I'm now in the market for a new GPSr any ideas? I am partial to Garmin. Thanks.

Compare the Garmin Vista and GPSMAP60
beerbrewer737 replied to beerbrewer737's topic in GPS technology and devices
Darn it Proimion! Just when I thought I had something with the '60 now I have to think about the Vista HCx! T Thanks Proimion for great response. I may have to start a new thread...lol. -
Compare the Garmin Vista and GPSMAP60
beerbrewer737 replied to beerbrewer737's topic in GPS technology and devices
Thanks Miragee. I really would like to hear about a side by side comparison. -
I use the Garmin Vista and for the most part I like it...but I was wondering if anyone has compared it to the GPSMAP60. I was wondering if what appears to be a larger antenna makes it more accurate in the forrest? Is the GPSMAP60 display (1.5 by 2.2) much easier to read as compared to the Vista (1.1 by 2.1)? I would love to hear from anyone who has done a side by side comparison. Thanks!

REI has Vista HCx for $219.99
beerbrewer737 replied to Pacific NW's topic in GPS technology and devices
Dumb question, I know, but why would you avoid ebay? -
My Vista is an American Indian, when asked which tribe it answered: "Where the Heckowee" . (Groan) My retired GPSr was named Hillary (Clinton) because I could not pin it down and was all over the map.

Cemetery Caches, who likes them?
beerbrewer737 replied to joranda's topic in General geocaching topics
I personally like cemetery caches. I try to be respectful and I mind where I walk as not to trample anything. I can't tell you how many times I've seen a young child's tombstone and thank the man upstairs for keeping my family healthy. Just the other day I saw a pink tombstone and saw that the little girl, who was buried a year ago, had passed at the age of 5. Saw a bunch of little toys around her site. I righted the ones that had fallen over, cleaned the debris up and said a little prayer for her. NO I WAS NOT CRYING...I got a little dust in my eye. -
Anyone carrty a weapon while caching?
beerbrewer737 replied to beerbrewer737's topic in General geocaching topics
Thanks for the advice Wadcutter, let the record show I've been spanked. And thank you elmuyloco5 for being polite. I will now disappear.... -
Anyone carrty a weapon while caching?
beerbrewer737 replied to beerbrewer737's topic in General geocaching topics
...by the way, anyway to edit the thread title. "Carrty"? What's wrong with my fingers? -
I was just wondering if anyone else does. I carry (legally) a 9 mm.

Thanks!

I have done more than a few LTL (Loop the Loop) caches on I40 and was wondering how can I find a list of all of them? Maybe some sort of bookmarked list? TIA for any answers.

Now that's funny.

Paperless caching for dummies
beerbrewer737 replied to TheManInStripes's topic in General geocaching topics
FWIW...the op said he's running Vista. As far as I know you cannot hot sync. It's a Vista compatability thing, or a lack thereof. Check out the Palm website for the most current info. -
Scary? That is an understatement. I was shaking like a leaf on a tree afterwards, but during the "action" I was calm(er). For what it's worth: on my gpsr my "home" is the common area of my subdivision. No homes within 100 yards plus.
