  1. And according to my husband, one should never pee on a flat rock or the base of a tree, either. Good to know, I guess. Paula
  2. I've got flat feet. Since I was 10 I've had recurrent tendinitis in both ankles, and about 8 years ago developed plantar fasciitis in both feet. I've noticed that I get flare-ups in both when the weather turns colder, and can usually take the proper steps to head off any pain. I know I should be more careful in my choice of footwear, but I'm not. That's really one thing you guys with foot problems should invest in...some good shoes and good orthotics. Having a podiatrist or orthopedist that listens doesn't hurt, either! Take care, Paula
  3. Oh man, I wish it were the other way around! We're looking to buy a Legend. Sorry! Paula
  4. Jamie, I wish you a lot of luck and fun on your trip! Too bad you're not coming through this neck of the woods, El Paso. We have some great caches in the mountains that I'm sure you'd enjoy. Keep us posted as you travel! All the best, Paula
  5. No doubt! Of course, it was really an amazing place. There was a marker in the forest showing the border...Germany on one side, Belgium on the other. And there were Dragons' Teeth everywhere, some even with bullet holes in them. Apparently people are still finding artifacts (sounds weird, calling things only 60 years old 'artifacts') in the ground, although souvenir hunting isn't allowed. Too bad we weren't into geocaching then...I'd be interested to see if there are any caches in the area, and we don't live nearly as close now. Take care, Paula
  6. Thanks for the warning...we should be moving there by the end of the year! I would like to think snakes don't bother me that much, but I *have* been bitten once already. Don't want to make it twice! Paula
  7. I, female, raised in the ultra-non-outdoorsy-type household, only relieved myself outdoors for the first (and so far, only) time almost a year ago. I was out with my husband, but we weren't geocaching...he was showing me sites from the Battle of the Bulge in the Ardennes Forest of Belgium. I realllllllly had to pee and he kept saying, "Go for it! We're the only ones around!" After five minutes or so of indecisiveness (and fully bladder discomfort), I finally decided to go for it. Then, of course, I felt horribly guilty...here we were, looking at foxholes where American men had died or been taken prisoner (he'd actually med some former POWs at the same site a year before), and I just had to take a leak there. Of course I felt much physical relief afterwards...and as soon as I zipped up, some guy went zooming by on a bicycle. Paula
  8. Color me confused, but are you selling the Legend or the yellow Etrex? Paula
  9. We Have a Map of the Piano, by Múm Learning to Fly, Pink Floyd Million Pieces, by The Newsboys Tough choices! I've already changed my mind (and one choice) once, but I think these are some pretty good tunes. Hey Idratherbehiking, I got to see Jeremy Camp (and Rebecca St. James and The Newsboys) on the Adoration Tour in February. What an awesome experience! If you get the chance to go, I highly recommend it. Paula
  10. Would your brother-in-law allow you to *loan* your nephew the money? It would be a great lesson in responsibility, both at having a new GPS to take care of and the need to work at paying you back. Just a thought. I'm not saying go out and buy a brand new GPS for the boy, since there are some great deals out there to be had on good, used models. Good luck! Paula
  11. Wow, if Houston is the armpit of the universe, then El Paso must be the forgotten stepchild of Texas! I'm happy to be a new geocacher in the state, but we're so far away from everything! Sadly, that includes your new cache, Shirley and John. I hope I can make it to that beautiful area someday! I can't wait to see who gets the FTF. Paula
  12. I'm in agreement about having a car there...the one time I did it, some dude tried to get in with us (4 women). Good thing the doors locked when we put it in drive! Kerrvert already mentioned he won't have a car, so he's already one step ahead. Also, be wary of taking cabs...the tram is much less expensive. Cab drivers always find hidden construction to go around and take the long way...leaving you with a higher fare. Paula
  13. Not only am I a female geocacher, I'm a pregnant one at that! Due this August with the little geocacher-to-be, so some of the mountain caches in this area are off-limits for me (*bummer, since it's a new hobby and I want to see them all!*). I go out geocaching with my husband, but I'm the only one active in the forum. And apparently there are lots of female geocachers down here in the El Paso/Las Cruces area. Paula
  14. While I am a proud resident of Florida, I currently live in Tay-has. Home is where the army sends us, baby! Paula
  15. Amsterdam is extremely easy to navigate on foot or with the help of public transportation. Get yourself a good map! Things to see there are the Rijksmuseum, the Anne Frank House, the Van Gogh Museum, the Heineken Brewery (the best darn 7,50 Euros I've *ever* spent!), Dam Square and the Royal Palace, and of course the ever-popular Red Light District and coffee shops. Honestly, once you've seen the RLD once you've seen it plenty of times (in my opinion). And as for the coffee shops, I'm not interested and never bothered. Most of the things I've mentioned are within walking distance of each other, but I wouldn't try them all in one day. I'm just giving you an overview...if you would like specific information on any one thing, please let me know. You will be happy there...it is one of my favorite places to visit on this earth. Take care, Paula
  16. My husband and I are relatively new to geocaching...I went on my first cache in February while visiting friends in Colorado. Now one of those friends is here for a couple of months and we tag along with him. We're looking to buy our first GPS and I lurk in the Garage Sale forum for good deals. Not that I try to be a lurker...I'm usually the chatty type! I'm just too excited and can't wait to get out of the house on the weekends for another hunt. We're also military and are interested in caches in so many different areas we've been to. I'll be heading home to Florida for a week next month and am already scoping out the possibilities. My husband left for Germany this morning and even managed to take a TB with him...I just hope he finds a friend of his there with a GPS so he can plant it! We live in a semi-mountainous area (El Paso, TX) and I am pregnant, so I'm limited at the caches I can go on. Lots of hiking involved in many of the caches here, so it'll be a happy day when we can make it out there together without fear of me causing any harm to the little geocacher-to-be. Take care all, Paula
  17. From what I understand, it's no problem as long as you log it correctly. Then go back to the page of the cache you took it from and drop a note that you picked it up, but don't claim it as a cache again (will the computer even allow you to do that?). I'm thinking of doing the same thing next month, when I make a visit from Texas to Florida. There are a few TBs in my area that want to head towards the East Coast...it's the least I can do! Paula
  18. The husband and I are interested as well, if the other one is still available! Haven't come up with a good offer price yet, but I'm sure we can discuss it with you. Thanks! Paula
