  1. I introduced my dad, brother, and sister-in-law to geocaching last week while I was at home visiting. The neatest thing is, my sister-in-law is a television producer. She was so intrigued by the sport that she would (seriously) like to make a documentary about it! How cool is that?!? Paula
  2. I just came back from Central Florida yesterday, and I know what you mean! I logged a DNF and the cache owner emailed me his phone number and a hint, just in case I still needed the help. It was nice of him, and probably not something that any cachers in my area would consider doing. It does seem like the caching community there is much tighter than in other locations. Paula
  3. I've found them for sale on ebay before. Or, heck, just go to Greece and pick some up! Just kidding. If it's a slow day at the airport you may want to head to the local currency exchange...even though they don't typically accept coins, they still have to pay them out when the amount calls for it. Good luck! Paula
  4. My goals are simple...to learn more about the sport and get out there to find some more caches. I've only got 10 so far (if you count the one event I've been to), and that was without owning my own GPS. We were actually tagging along with an out-of-town visitor and got hooked. Well, I finally found a good deal and bought a Legend from another cacher, and it arrived earlier this week. I've been teaching myself how to use it (and will teach my husband as well), and maybe this weekend we can take it out and break it in. Then on Monday I leave for a week visiting family in Florida. I've already told my parents about the sport (since they will be my transportation for the duration of my visit!) and they're quite anxious to help and learn. I can't wait, either, because there are so many great-looking caches waiting to be found at home. On a more personal level, I'm due to have my first baby the first week of August. That's been a pretty big goal in my life for awhile now! Can't wait, either.... Paula
  5. Ooh, I'm a first-time mom-to-be, does that count? That's actually been a big topic of debate..albeit a playful one...here at the Camaro household. I would love to go caching on Sunday, and we may even get a chance. But then I have church and we're possible cooking out with friends, and no one had better even try to call during the Survivor finale...so, yeah, if there's time, I'll be out on the trail! Paula
  6. I'll be landing in Orlando on the 17th and already planning on hitting a couple of caches at or around the airport. It will be my first visit home since I started geocaching, and I'm extremely excited to start. My destination is actually an hour from there, but there are so many great-looking caches to be found in between. Can't wait to see what others may have to add to this forum! Paula
  7. I only wish my car actually had a traditional antenna! But no, we just had to get the model without one.... Oh well, I guess Signal could sit in the back window...poor thing. Paula
  8. Hi Tony, nice to have you here! I'm down here in Texas...otherwise I'd say Hi in person! I'm relatively new to the sport as well, and just bought my first GPSr today from a fellow geocacher. Hopefully I'll get it in time to take on a trip home with me...my parents, of all people, are rather anxious to start in on the sport as well! I wish you luck in your search for a good GPSr, and many, many finds! Take care, Paula
  9. Sold, today, to me! Hopefully he'll get a chance to check back in here and lock the thread. Paula
  10. I would love to see a boonie-style hat with the GC logo on it. The regular ball caps are great, but the boonie offers more coverage! Paula
  11. I'm still relatively new to the sport and will be purchasing a Legend soon. I made the decision after tagging along with a Legend-user to geocache on the weekends, and it seems like an awesome unit! I looked them up on amazon.com yesterday and they have them for $159, free shipping, *and* a $30 rebate. May not be available in Canada, but it seems like a great deal for those of us down here in the US. Paula
  12. Hey, congratulations! I won an ammo can today at an event cache, so hopefully soon I'll be hiding my own first cache as well! I wish you and your new cache lots of luck! Paula
  13. How about This Cache? It's pretty close to your description, and it was the first one I ever did. Paula
  14. Hey, I'm glad this post got bumped up because it's been a fascinating read! I have never served in the military, but like a few others here my service has been on the homefront. My husband has been active duty Army for just about 11 years, and he's my hero. Initially he was 11B (2/505th PIR, Ft. Bragg), and then reclassed to 14E (Patriot). We've been to Ft. Bliss TX, spent an astounding five years in Germany, and are now back at Bliss. He didn't see any time in Iraq or Kuwait, but did deploy last year. Just found out not too long ago that he got a combat patch for his deployment, although he doesn't really think he deserves it. His enlistment is up in December and we're hoping to head to Colorado Springs, AGR. Paula
  15. Leo, I really, really, really want it. However, my husband doesn't come back from out of town until late Monday and I need to discuss it with him. I would love for you to hold onto it for me, but if you get the opportunity to sell it before then, please go ahead. Just let me know if you do! Thanks so much, Paula
  16. Hey, welcome back! I'm rather new to the sport myself, and 6 months pregnant with my first kiddo. I've been wondering how long it will take me to get back into the swing of things once the Biscuit makes his/her arrival this summer...we're so new, and so addicted, that I don't want to quit! I did, however, realize my limitations this weekend after taking a slide on a mountain hike/cache hunt. Needless to say, I'm grounded for awhile... Paula
  17. Sounds intriguing...how much are you willing to part with it for? We're dying to get our own Legend instead of tagging along with a friend on weekends... Paula
  18. Indy, searching for the Legendary Upsnout Microcache of Southern Sri Lanka, suddenly realizes where the name came from.... Paula
  19. Ooh, I wish I could attend! I'll be visiting my family from 17-24 May from Texas (I'm the youngest in the family and 6 months pregnant with my first kiddo...they *begged* me to come home!), but I'll be in Central Florida. Weird, I spent my whole life there and never went further south than Sarasota. On the flipside, if any of you will be in C.F. during that time, let me know! I can't make any promises, but it sure is fun trying to get together. Take care, Paula
  20. Indy knew he'd do whatever it took to get into the Temple of Doom, but he hadn't expected the Gatekeeper to be so darn beautiful...... Paula
  21. I love old cemeteries and think they're fascinating. There's an old one near my parents' house in Central Florida, and some of the homemade gravestones broke my heart...babies dead too young, young mothers that didn't survive childbirth, etc. And then one time while visiting my grandfather's grave in South Carolina, I came across the grave of one Homer Simpson! Yep, pretty funny. I have a picture of it around here somewhere. We did a cache here in El Paso recently that takes you into a historic local cemetery. I thought it was pretty darn interesting, and would like to do some more research and return there someday...living, of course! Paula
  22. I won't be in the area for another month! If nothing else, PM or email me around the 15th of May and I'll see what I can do! Best of luck, Paula
  23. We haven't made it to see any Civil War battlefields yet, but I don't doubt how somber they are. Just like in Belgium, but I actually thought that was pretty creepy. So many pictures and videos are in existence of what went on there that you can just see it happening around you. And it's the things you don't hear of that often that are even worse, like this one little village there where a massacre took place. Definitely creepy. Paula
  24. Worship him? Hmmm, I certainly adore him, but I don't want his ego to get too big. And wise? Yes, he is, but the Army certainly taught him a lot! Paula
