  1. Now that Google Streetview has been extended to cover 95% of the UK, you'll be able to find a lot more of those outdoor caches from the comfort of your armchair too!
  2. Nice idea! Perhaps get a friendly local to assist you if this event is coming up soon?
  3. Having just read of your exploits at my Leap of Faith ("my foot slod sideways, shortly followed by the rest of me. Splash!") - I guess it could have been a lot worse... Happy to take a closer look for you, if you can narrow it down to any specific areas of Northants?
  4. Sorry - my misinterpretation of "I put the note on your cache" - you obviously meant the subsequent poster rather than the original. Apologies. So who is the "School Prefect"??
  5. I put the note on your cache,no probs in it being known.....i dont hide behind a sock puppet And just to add i put notes or Sba's on 50 or so other caches today to..... Jon - are you saying you are "School Prefect"? In which case "i dont hide behind a sock puppet" seems a bit rich, since it clearly is just such an account. Why not post SBAs under TDW instead? As others have said, a "self-appointed Prefect" has connotations that is guaranteed to upset cache owners...
  6. That's amazing! Why so many tennis fans in this little community?
  7. Ah, but sometimes it's hard to know where you want to go until you've seen the travel guide...
  8. I started with Mosaic. But now Firefox & Thunderbird do the trick for me. Though I have noticed Firefox seems to be getting a little bloated? Maybe time to try Chrome...
  9. I went to Skegness a few years ago (I know, I know, don't ask why) - where I DNF'd the local cache - and the second closest was 14 miles away in Boston... I suspect that's changed now though.
  10. I know it too - I had that place in mind for a virtual "Geocoin savings bank" - rather like the TB graveyard caches...
  11. Thanks - but as I say, Rutson did the work - I only searched for caches near to the above-mentioned event. So the Ding is his if he has the next photo ready?
  12. Geodetic Center-as close as you get.. (GC9064) (But Rutson should get all the credit, including the ding if there is one...) I'm intrigued by the patchwork effect around this area - are the locals encouraged to do their own lunar landscaping??
  13. A DING for the cache - and close enough for the rest... It is actually the former home of Palace Amusements (http://www.palaceamusements.com/). As you say, Asbury Park was also home to Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band - and "the Palace" is referred to in the lyrics of "Born to Run". No arena that I know of - only the Convention Hall further North along the Boardwalk. Bruce also played at the Stone Pony - a far smaller venue. I worked at the Palace for 3 months in 1979. Apologies for the self-indulgent nostalgia.
  14. Another clue maybe... it's not too far (relatively speaking) from the last one. Identifying the place shouldn't be too difficult - if you're stuck, ask The Boss...
  15. This is perhaps a tough one - inspired by a sudden blast of nostalgia while searching for the previous location... What used to stand on the now barren plots circled below? And what is the link with Bruce? (that's your clue ) Oh yes, name the nearest cache too.
  16. That gave it away - Chappaquiddick Island, specifically Dike Bridge. The nearest cache (not too many on the Island) appears to be BYB (GC1TR2X) And you can no longer drive onto the island, apparently...
  17. Birdie to the rescue ..... What and where is the place and what is the cache ? I know that! It's Perlan, Reykjavik, Iceland; and the cache is Perlan (The Pearl) - GCK8ED. No time to post another at the moment - so anyone feel free to jump in if you have one ready...
  18. Well, I thought it would be easy - it's received a lot of recent visits...
  19. Hrisey (GC1WEVZ). And the cache is still unfound a couple of weeks after being published...
  20. Just last night I received an email from the Earthcache folk showing me how to link to a new icon hosted on the earthcache website. This is to "make up" for not getting a real badge/pin any more. I'm sure all qualified earthcachers will be getting a similar email in due course... Baz.
  21. I'll echo that. My suggestion is always to take a step back and ask yourself Why? - "Why would I want someone to visit this location?", "What's the point of bringing them here?". If the answer is only to add another ivy-covered micro to their numbers - then perhaps you should reconsider. But as others have pointed out, there are a whole variety of more acceptable answers.
  22. I'm quite intrigued as to how you know that - given that you seem to have only started in March this year? Or perhaps you are a long standing team member and now have your own user name?
