  1. You will have to use the secret handshake. Unfortunately no-one has shared the details with me yet... Look for a bunch of people "dressed for the outdoors", sitting in a corner somewhere, with a pile of rucksacks, tupperware, GPSs, geocoins and other paraphernalia stacked high on the table in front of them. Then go and join the muggles quickly - it may be your last chance... Hope to see you there. Baz.
  2. Thank you Original A1. We discovered the reintroduced Chilterns population shortly before we discovered geocaching, and so it was an obvious choice at the time. We might prefer to be known as "Haliaeetus albicilla" these days - but that's more of a mouthful...
  3. Here's one by way of inspiration: At a "Boat Only" event a few year's ago...
  4. Thanks to fuzzybears for choosing my photo last month. This month's theme is: Transport. It could be your caching wagon - or a multitude of other modes of travel that you might use on your caching trips - bicycle, roller skates, segway, horseback, or shanks' pony. But feel free to interpret the theme as you see fit - anything transport related that you have seen while out caching is fine. And photos may have been taken at any time... Good luck, and I look forward to judging at the end of the month. Baz. The rest of the rules are: 1) The photo must be cache related and to do with a specific UK cache (any type including events), caching series or caching trip - please include a link to the cache or the GC.... code so we can see where the picture relates to. 2) Maximum of two photos per caching team or cacher. 3) A new thread is started each month, with the OP stating these rules. 4) The winner each month is decided by the winner from the previous month - the new winner starting the thread for the subsequent month. They may set a theme if they wish. 5) Follow the theme
  5. Oh dear, my first win, and a controversial one... I'd better brush up on how to set next month's competition. Thanks fuzzybears! Baz.
  6. It's a bit old (July 2010) - but this was snapped on our way back from The Old Byre in Dervaig on the Isle of Mull, only 2/3 mile from the cache.
  7. I've a good mind to pop over to Banbury and set a small themed series on Jeffrey Archer novels...
  8. Thanks for the list - I'll definitely be back for a closer look at some of these.
  9. Rescued by our fine Northants Fire Service - several of whom are also cachers... Northants fireman filmed in action while placing new Pylon cache (Large, 5* terrain). Anyone want to extend this new "Pylon Paranoia" series?
  10. Wait 'til you see my new "quantum-micro"...
  11. Thanks for fixing the little TB images, e.g.: Rainbow Snail TB
  12. I have a page set up to show all the contestants in a TB race - but nearly all of the images are now the default TB logo, meaning that the page is a lot less interesting and more confusing... Any idea of when this might get fixed? Thanks.
  13. How about Simply Paul's SUPERSONIC - THE FASTEST TRAVEL BUG IN THE WORLD?? 131,974.1 miles before it got banned...
  14. I've awarded points to my favourites, including archived ones. But here's a dilemma: I do use the number of favourite points - or more importantly the "points per premium find ratio" (still wish there was an easier way of seeing this) - to select caches that might be worth finding. Always bearing in mind of course that someone else's favourite might not be my favourite - but that's fine, it's still a good indication. But... if I am in agreement with the favoured state of the cache, which is quite often the case, do I award it one of my precious points? Because if I do, then I'm soon going to run out. In other words, is the average quality ("favouriteness") of my finds going up if use this strategy? i.e. Whereas previously a favourite cache had to be in my top 10% (one point for every ten finds) - should I now raise the bar to the top 5% maybe? I actually used this last week, and declined to award a point to a good cache that might otherwise have been in my top 10% (sorry FD!)
  15. Date first, definitely. Sometimes the right date, but otherwise generally within a month or so either side. If it's an FTF (which is getting rare these days), or even a near miss, then I put the time too. Then name. Unless it's a nano, in which case m-m or m2 will do. Or when I've forgotten a pen (this happens rather too frequently) - anything resembling an initial that I can manage to etch with a sharp stick. And hopefully, if it's bigger than a micro log sheet, then a few words about the experience too!
  16. Totally agree with this sentiment (well I would, with a name like milvus-milvus ) - well worth "keepin 'em peeled" while out & about...
  17. This discussion reminds me of pieman's The cache death of the UK which was very premonitional (if that's a word). (Though I now see that it has not only changed it's name, but actually had only 12 of it's purported 212 stages all along... I feel cheated.)
  18. Basically a Maths programme shown last month on BBC2, with an accompanying puzzle challenge on the website. Fairly lightweight, but still good to see some Maths on the Telly. And the main puzzle that followed (and in which Helen was one of 3 "winners") was anything but lightweight! Follow the link in my original post to the BBC website, which will tell you more about it. Too late! It was only a 3 part series (though I'm sure it will be repeated at some point). And there is some word of them filming at least part of the "finale", I believe.
  19. Congratulations to Helen from Worcestershire - would you care to share your geocaching identity? I was hugely impressed with the team effort to solve this. I had hoped to be able to contribute something - but the sheer scale of the task was rather daunting... Good luck in the finale! Baz.
  20. Thank you. I'll see what we can come up with...
  21. Do the snails have to be cross-stitched? Or could they, for example, be beaded snails? If so, Mrs Milvus might be tempted...
  22. This is a joke - can we just revert to where we were before the recent changes?
  23. Church in the Sea (GC15EZJ) is a must...
