Question One (the maps): The little map problem is, according to Jeremy, a little problem. Generally speaking, you will only see incorrect maps on relatively new geocaches. The maps usually work themselves out. If they don't, the geocache owner can "edit" his or her page (even without actually making changes) and the page will go back through the 'give me a little map' line. It will probably turn out right on that second try. It's a software glitch and a minor inconvenience. Sometimes even amusing.
Question Two (logging in for forums): If you have your preferences set to automatically log you in to geocaching.com, that cookie probably won't also log you into the forums. (Notice that when you first arrive at the forums page it says "you are not logged in" at the upper left.) If, as soon as you go to the forums, you click on "login" you should get essentially a screen refresh except now it says "Hello *your user name*". You are then free to post.

Half a dozen geocaches have been archived recently but are still on my radar. Any ideas which ones?!

Hey guys, I had a great time in Portland. I'll post a note on the Barley Mill (Oregone History #1) page with details. It was great to meet some of Oregon's finest geocachers. I had 25 finds for the weekend and several adventures. Thanks, gang!!
Before coming to Oregon, I had another interesting geocache find here in WA. You can read about it at http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.asp?ID=16337

and don't plan to. I'd rather say "sorry" than say
"may I?" and run the risk of having them say "no". Bureaucracies are usually too full of C.Y.A. attitudes.
I would add the caveat that I also excercise good judgement when I place my geocaches. I'm not losing sleep over any of my placements.

Alright! I am psyched. Thanks a lot guys for making the extra effort. Look for my log after the weekend!!

It's all part of the challenge. Usually I would say: No signing the logbook, no find. If you open the container and find no logbook, you improvise. Write a note and stick it in there. Leave a buck and jot down the serial number.
Getting to the geocache, opening it, and signing it without getting caught is part of the challenge. That's why I put mine right in the middle of busy streets.
There are exceptions to every rule, of course. (See below!) I think that the geocache owner should be the final judge.

I'll just toss my two cents in by saying "ditto to what web-ling said."
I wouldn't emphasize the 'it's their cache, do what they want' bit though. There is a lot said for being thoughtful.
Send a nice note to the geocache owner and please post what happens so that we will know!

fractal, I didn't mean to start some kind of gold rush on the decals. I plan to hit a dozen or so geocache in the area on Saturday BEFORE I hit the BM. SO, I'll try to pick up a decal in a geocache if there are any left. I was just suggesting a back-up plan since some of us are not homeys. I'm going to have a look at Tree Hugger when I get down there. I'll have to see this tree before I commit one way or the other. Sixty feet up is pretty darn high, even for a monkey like me.
An aside: I will be attempting an interesting and challenging one here in the Puget Sound area tomorrow. Watch the forurms!

If you know of ANY geocaches in the state of WA that have been archived in the past few months (and you don't see them in this thread), please post them here. I am adding these to the archived list:
Saturday Morning Cartoon Cache
Alien Invasion
Grill Hill kissin bridge
Pretty flowers.....
Geology Geocache #4
Wooden Faces & Marsh Maddness
Rocks
Billie's Memorial cache
Please note: This does NOT include temporarily disabled geocaches. JUST archived geocaches. Thanks.

Makaio, that's great news. Tip o' the hat to ponyryder, too. We will DEFINITELY be hitting this one! (and the hallowed ground of the original--in spite of Dave U.)

Moun10Bike and I are each hoping to score a decal this weekend. Just in case we're too late, maybe fractal can bring a couple to the Barley Mill on Saturday night.

Moun10Bike and I are making our plans for our Greater Portland Geospree this weekend. So if you have a favorite geocache in the area (yours or otherwise) let us know and we'll make sure it's on the list. We'll try to bring a few Travel Bugs down to drop off in geocaches as well.

as others have said, include some criteria that makes it necessary to actually go to the location. Posting a photo which includes the geocacher and his/her GPSR is a good one. E-mailing the geocache owner with the answer to a question that can only be answered by visiting...these have already been suggested. They are GOOD ideas and prevent bozos like Drago..., er anyone, from posting bogus finds.
These are the same kind of geocachers who try to steal your really cool cache ideas without doing any of the work themselves.
Yeah, yeah, live and let live, yeah, yeah.

I've made a list of geocaches in the Contact Cache-Barley Mill area. Only one is by oregone. How far away are the other ones? (I'm too lazy to check his list I guess.)
Also, oregone, how do YOU pronounce oregone?
- Seth! (rhymes with Beth! not Baformachuckalotta!)
I had never used that arrow icon until now. I've also never used or

I will not be able to maintain these caches and will need you guys to 'adopt them'
I'm sure that the Montana geocachers will appreciate it if they aren't particularly random and if you do put some thought into them.
If you don't get a reply, will you assume that they do or don't want them? Maybe just a couple of really good ones would be thoughtful. I doubt that you'll win points by placing 54 unmaintained caches.

Laurencat et al., Saturday might be good. We should have a day's worth of stories to tell. It depends on whether or not you guys are planning to give us loads of tips (advice, not loose change) while we toss a few back. I should also check with Erin (Mrs. Seth!) to get her opinion. We're bringing the tribe.
Makaio or anyone else, do you have the coordinates for the original stash? Any chance that the Un-Original Stash will be operational by the 20th? I'd like to visit both.
Last item before I click Post Now: How far is After Dark from the Barley Mill?

Great.
And LaurenCat mentioned something about a pitcher...

Exactly. BUT, isn't that the point of the original post?! Personally, I'm annoyed by proselytizing in general. But if someone insists on doing it, he/she should please keep it out of geocaching forums AND geocaches. I think that the original post has some very good points. Find another venue for dogma...
