Question About Cache Adoption..........
West Tn Dawg replied to West Tn Dawg's topic in General geocaching topics
I knew there was a new feature that let you do this, but I couldn't find it anywhere.THANKS -
I have a cache that is in a high traffic area and I felt it should be maintained by someone that lives in the area. (only 25 miles from me) There is a local cacher that lives in the area and has several caches in the area. He is willing to adopt it, but I need to know how to get this done. Can someone help me with this? Thanks Rick

How Far From Home Can You Hide A Cache?
West Tn Dawg replied to eosxt's topic in General geocaching topics
I have one that is 250 miles from home. I visit my parents 6 or more times a year and check on it each time. If there is a problem my father knows where it is and even tho he does not cache, he can repair or replace it for me. It can work. I forgot to mention that it helped getting mine approved by the fact that half of my finds are also in this area. Rick -

I Couldn't Believe My Eyes!!!!!!
West Tn Dawg replied to West Tn Dawg's topic in General geocaching topics
No Swag, it was a waterproof match container. I knew it was mine from the paint job, magnet and the way the magnet was attached. Just gonna let it slide this time. Boy, I'm gettin old and mellow! -
I had a cacher log one of my caches and said he found the log sheet intact in the proper location but it was not in a container. Being the quality cacher that he is, he returned a few hours later with a new container and placed the log sheet in the new container and rehid the cache.(that was very nice of him!) Well, now the rest of the story. I was cacheing at a later date and what to my wondering eyes should I find? A new cache only a few miles away in MY CONTAINER!Unbelieveable! All I could do was laugh! It's not worth making a big deal over but it is still pretty low-down! Later

Going Back To A Cache To Place Better Stuff
West Tn Dawg replied to Delaypat's topic in General geocaching topics
What about this? I had a group of Cachers coming thru my area to hunt my caches. They invited me to go along, but I was not able to go. One of the caches that they were going to hunt was a micro at a local park. I went out the night before and left them a clue in the micro to find a large container I had hidden nearby that I had filled with swag just for the group. I asked that they not trade, only take. The next day I picked up the clue and large container. Was this out of line? I noticed someone above questioned about swag being for everyone or just a special group. BTW A cacher came thru that morning before the group and found the large container and not the Micro. He traded, left a log sheet and emailed me letting me know the log sheet was gone and he had left me a new one in the cache. LOL! I e-mailed him back and told him what had happened. Yes, I allowed the find log! -
Wanted: Garmin Data Cord
West Tn Dawg replied to ghostwriter13's topic in GPS technology and devices
I have bought at least six cables from this source. I have 3 GPSr's and 3 computers. I didn't want to be dragging cables back and fourth. He has good stuff, reasonable prices and shipping, and he ships fast. I just bought another last week for a friend at work and it was here in 3 days! RNRPLACE -
As I typed the above explanation the approver sent an e-mail and re-activated the cache. Sorry for the trouble! THANKS TENNESSEE GEOCACHER or MAX CACHER!!! If this confusion was caused by me I am truly sorry!
-
What has me confused is....... I placed 2 caches the same day. I submitted them and was told I had to have permission from the park ranger. I rode back the 60 miles to meet the Ranger and get permission. He was out so I had to make another trip a few days later. I made the 60 miles again and explained geocaching to the ranger. He liked the idea and I even showed him the location of the caches. One is right outside the office and the other is less than 100 yards behind his house. You have to walk thru his yard to get to the nature trail that is located on.. They were ok and have had a number of finds and compliments about the cache sites. Now, 7 or 8 months later one of them is ok and the other is not. I could understand having permission for each individual cache if there was some kind of written permission slip. There is not. The approver simply calls to verify that we have permission. He did this. Now they say I only had permission for 1 cache. Does he have to hang up and call back for each cache? This really has me confused. If this cache is not un-archived I will be forced to pick it up, as I do not think I should have to go thru this again nor bother the Ranger again for the same thing. Anyone that has been to Reelfoot Lake knows that this is a very scenic and historical area. There needs to be caches in the area. I had been thinking of hiding a couple more in the area and would have gotten permission for these. It ain't worth the trouble! I don't think I am being unreasonable about this at all. I hope this explains the problem I am having and yes, I am in contact with the approver. I HOPE this gets worked out soon! Thanks Rick

I sent an e-mail to maxcacher, maybe it will be cleared up shortly. Didn't mean to sound as harsh as this post may have sounded! I really was just wondering if this was happening to anyone else or if it was the norm. You are right about one thing for sure, and I will pick it up if it comes to that. Sorry!

I placed 2 caches at Reelfoot State PArk in TN nearley a year ago. After driving the 60 miles to hide it I was informed by Tennessee Geocacher that I had to have permission from the park ranger. I drove the 60 miles again to get permission. Well, the ranger was out for the day. I did not want to do this over the phone so I returned the 60 miles again 2 days later to talk to the ranger about permission for the cache. He had heard of geocaching and already told one of the workers to check into hiding a few themselves. He gave me permission to hide mine and his phone number for the approver to contact him. All went well and Tennessee Geocaher promptly approved my caches. THE PROBLEM, now is I get an e-mail just like the first one I recieved a year ago saying I must get permission and a contact number because my cache has been archived. What is the deal???? This one is from MAXCACHER. Has this happened to any of you? I WILL NOT DO THIS AGAIN! I spent several dollars and 3 days placing these caches the first time!!!! It will have to stay archived and the next time I'm in the area I will pick it up! (maybe)

Garmin 12 Question.......
West Tn Dawg replied to West Tn Dawg's topic in GPS technology and devices
It is a 12 XL. Is it loadable? Thanks Rick -
A friend of mine has a Garmin 12 and he asked me to teach him how to use it. While in the process I noticed the 12 has a base-map of cities loaded in it. The question I have is, can I load any other maps in this unit? Thanks Rick

Well my Dad is an avid turkey hunter and he builds blinds out of old logs in the woods. He stacks them kinda like a log cabin and he hunts from them. He use to tell us kids that these log piles were "Furilla" nest! Kept us kids scared to death when we were at the camp due to the woods being full of "Furilla" nest! That many nest around there surely had to be plenty of "Furilla's" around! He said, "He never had to worry about us kids wandering off in the woods at night and getting lost"!

New Cache Idea... Is This Appropriate?
West Tn Dawg replied to Team Smoke's topic in General geocaching topics
Line the cache container with thin carpet and it would be almost impossible to break them under "normal" conditions! -
The Gatorade containers that look like a water cooler have served me well. They have a screw on lid and are just right for the cache hide where an ammo box is just a little to much. Also like the new Folgers coffee containers!

Wanted! Handlebar Mount For Etrex
West Tn Dawg replied to Mastifflover's topic in GPS technology and devices
I got mine here! Very satisfied! Etrex Handlebar mount -
I placed several in the Gatorade container that looks like a water keg. Has a screw on lid and wide mouth. Mix up the juice for your cache hunts and you have drink and cache container! Room for small trade items and easier to hide than ammo cans. Oh-Yea, I paint them camo!

Sox Fan, I noticed you had your lanyard on the yellow etrex hooked to the battery door. Is there a reason for that? Are you not afraid the door would come open and you lose the GPS? Just curious!
