  1. Don't know if this is the place for this but here goes -- I can access MOCs. I can access the Off Topic Forum. My account says my status is basic member and I cannot log onto Waymarking.com. The message says I have to be a Premium member. I believe my membership renewed in May through Paypal. Is there a twilight zone between Basic and Premium for extra special people?
  2. I was on a game website and someone in a chat mentioned geocaching. I'm one of those people who can't stand it when someone starts talking about something I know nothing about. Minimized my game, did a google and an addiction was born.
  3. There's no reason to write down the numbers on the bugs unless you are going to take one and you need to log it. Above all, don't take pictures of the serial numbers or publish them anywhere. The purpose of the serial number is to prove that the person who claims to find the bug actually did. If you publish the serial number, anyone can log the bug and cause real problems for the owner.

    Real Names

Some of us are in the Federal Witness Protection Program. We use caches to send messages to our handlers. This month's secret sign is "It's past midnight and we've lost the glass slipper." In all seriousness tho, we had a thread on our local forum addressing the same issue. Since people place and find caches under their caching handles, that's how they've come to be known. Even during our group hikes or monthly breakfasts people have a tendency to address each other by their caching names.
  5. I placed a cache and it was approved. Several months later another cacher re-enabled a cache he had disabled. Someone looking for the second part of my multi found his final 6 inches from my micro. I started looking for another place for my micro, feeling that he had been there first. I emailed my approver with the new coordinates and the response I received regarding why mine was approved so close to his was: "The problem is the other caches nearby are older multi caches from before geocaching.com checked and recorded multi locations. I have only the starting coordinates for the other multis in the area." I don't know the date when gc.com started recording all the stages of multis, so that information is available to approvers for some multis but not for others.
  6. I adopted a cache. I wrote to my local approver. Approver told me to send an email to the owner stating my interest in adopting the cache and to either forward the reply or to advise if I received no reply within 2 weeks. The owner was agreeable, I notified the approver and "voila" it became mine.
  7. So basically what you are saying is that 1. a gift certificfate is being provided and 2. a FTF prize is being provided. The company providing both items does not want you to advertise for them in the cache page and wants no other acknowledgement other than providing their name so someone can redeem the gift certificate and FTF prize? Sounds within the guidelines to me.
  8. What does the company mean by "displaying the voucher"? If you left McDonald's discount coupons in a cache, or a gift cetfficate to gc.com, would that be commercial? Gift certificates are very common in caches, especially as FTF prizes. IMHO, there is no difference between someone donating a gift cettificate and you purchasing one. It's what the company wants in exchange for the certificate that might be called into question.
  9. I was on the Pogo game website playing World Class Solitaire and someone mentioned geocaching in the chat. Of course, I had never heard of it and had to immediately go the internet to do a search. That was in May and I am hooked. Don't play in Pogo much anymore either!
  10. Working on a new cache (two actually). I'd like to get the majority of it prepared before actually submitting it. I don't see anyway to save it to my cache page and not submit. Am I missing something?

    Ftf Stat

In our area, FTF credit is more important than a FTF prize or even number of finds. Cachers are out at 2:00 a.m. with flashlights, falling over each other to be FTF. Is it possible to add a FTF category to stats? It would have to entail adding a feature that allows cache owners to approve or verify the FTF which would then give the finder credit.
  12. My caching name is from Diablo II: Lord of Destruction on line RPG (d2). So I leave handcrafted wire and bead angels.
  13. I've just finished reading a thread that started as an MOC thread and degenerated into a war between paying and nonpaying members. You might ask the reason you are paying/nonpaying member and then if you are nonpaying member, what would induce you to become a paying member.

Here's what works for me. on the code buttons select guided mode. click the quote button nd a box comes up with a place to paste the text. Paste thge text click OK and you get the text quoted in the box. I haven't yet figured out how others put the name and date/time on the quote line yet, but am learning slowly.

Okay. I'm posting on a topic and I hit the quote button coz I want to quote someone else. First of all, do I have to retype everything I want to quote? Then when I Hit the post button, all I get is the word QUOTE. I want it to appear in a grayed out box and I can't figure out how to do it. HELP.
  17. LFNY and I met a great caching buddy on our first hunt. We finally figured out how to use the GPS and were heading toward the cache when we saw some crazy person wandering back and forth looking at something in his hand. We approached him and introduced ourselves. It was his 8th cache. Now we often go out on weekends together. Another weekend we met two of the more prominent cachers in our area and did 5 multis together. I took my sister and niece who live in Buffalo out for the first time this spring and met another cacher who was taking her goddaughters out for the first time. I say introduce yourself. I'm thrilled when I meet someone else who shares my addiction. And I think Strikeforce's suggestion of inviting them to join you instead of asking if you can join them gives them a much easier way of saying no. Noone's feelings hurt.
  18. I've been thinking about changing my user name however -- how does that affect my account -- will all my stats move with my new user name or will they be reset to zero. What about posts and caches that I have logged? Will those change or stay the same or disappear?
  19. Me too. Will be cheaper and more entertaining that the Volksmarch Stick my friend was going to bring me back from German. Thanks.
