  1. Many Many thanks 'Touchstone' for your help. Everything is working fine now! Regards Bananaskin aka Mike
  2. Recently upgraded my PC from XP to Windows 7 and find myself unable to recall how the Geocaching GPX/KML files are copied over to Google Earth? Many thanks for any assistance. Bananaskin
  3. Hi & thanks for the reply....I looked on the GSAK website & didn't find anything (I'm not even sure what I'm looking for!) I know the macro has a title of rmme or similar to this. Good luck with your upgrade. Bananaskin
  4. Hi People Just reinstalled GSAK after PC upgrade XP to Windows 7. I now need details of how to download the macro for use with Memory Map. Many thanks in advance Regards Bananaskin
  5. Many thanks for this info, it worked a treat.
  6. I have recently changed my browser from IE to Chrome. I'm now experiencing problems downloading caches. When I used IE, I would create a Folder in my documents and call it 'Geocaches'. Another folder would then be created with the title of say, a nearby town/village where I want to find selected geocaches. Once I had multiple caches stored as .gpx files, I would open GSAK and list them in that programme then download all to my Etrex 20. Using a GSAK Macro I would then transfer my cache locations to Memory Map.The map would be printed to aid location in the field. With Chrome, I just cannot copy gpx files to the location contained in my documents, the file automatically opening GSAK. Any help would be appreciated. I'm really used to IE and Chrome is a completely different kettle of fish!!
  7. Thanks Castagnari....I'm waiting for the email from GSAK.....I have fixed the problem with GSAK Database/Memory Map which was the reason for the hullabaloo in the first place. Dr Dick& Vick...this is the macro I'm using....the address in the output directory was incorrect. Thanks again for a good response to my qwuery....not quite there yet, but working on it.
  8. I recently upgraded to version 8 of GSAK but registered it to my Wife's name......Unfortunately, this info has been deleted erroneously and I need to contact GSAK. Can anyone help in contacting GSAK without a user name/password? As an aside, I can't seem to transfer cache locations from GSAK to Memory Map (it was OK a week or so ago) and I'm getting an error message which reads....Failed to open import file (20D04FEO-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B-30309D)Great Dalby.csv Thanks
  9. Prior to caching in the field, I normally download what caches I want to locate by placing them into a dedicated folder created for the purpose in My Documents'. I then use GSAK to transfer them to the Etrex 20 and also copy GC codes over to Memory Map. On occasions, I find it could take several weeks before I visit these downloaded caches and I have just found out that logs and any other pertinent info is not automatically updated. For example, I downloaded the 'Alphabet Soup' series onto GSAK about 2 weeks ago and sent these to my GPS this morning. Unfortunately the latest log date is mid August. Is there any way to update these gpx files so when I do get out there I have the latest logs/info to hand without resorting to deleting everything and starting again?
  10. Thanks People......Pharisee....that worked!! Many thanks
  11. Hi Pharisee I have edited the info and changed the name...I don't seem able to get this TB to be added to my inventory so I can transfer it to a cache I dropped it off this morning. Thanks in advance!
  12. I released a TB I owned back in 2009 but it got lost somewhere up in Northumberland, but I kept the duplicate TB dog tag. I recently came across a cache containing such a duplicate and now want to release this duplicate into the wild blue yonder but with a different attachment (toy). Do I just edit the original description and title? or what?
  13. Tarmac John....I have the Etrex 20. The only buttons I have are Power on/off/light, Back, Up/Down (Page?) and thumb switch, so I don't quite understand Page/Enter then switch on!
  14. Hi Happy Humphrey....yes, I will stick with it but last night while playing around, I couldn't delete my gpx files from the Garmin. I went into it the usual way...My Computer/Garmin/GPX/delete but got message saying 'cannot read from the source file or disk' - any thoughts on this one? I did eventually manage to delete them on the Etrex but still not sure if what I've done is right. I also recall that you can reset the etrex to factory default settings by pressing 3 x buttons simultaneously. Any ideas which they are? Thanks
  15. Thanks Guys...I was in a real growly mood this am. Was getting very frustrated. Managed to unzip my PQ files and dragged them over to EasyGPS, but thats as far as I've got. My biggest bug remains is inputting coordinates and telling the GPS 'Take Me There' - can't get my head around this one!! Again.....many thanks for all input so far!
  16. I changed GPS devices a few weeks ago going for the Etrex 20 after owning an Etrex H. What a mistake!!!! On my old GPS I could enter coordinates (say as part of a multi cache) and name them anything I liked (001/002) for example. The lack of maps didn't bother me as I have almost all of UK on Memory Map, so using this in conjunction with GSAK, I could pick & choose geocaches use GSAK to send them to the GPS and MM. Now I find I need a whole new set of software to go geocaching with.....BaseCamp/Birds Eye Select/EasyGps/OpenStreetMap/WinZip/Mapinstall/ the list goes on...the galling thing is that nowhere can I find (as yet) a comprehensive guide/write up on how all this fits together and how to use them. I'm now waiting on the arrival of a mini SD card (I think this is to download 'OpenStreetmap) on, plus a USB adapter. I'm really battling and almost ready to go back to the 'H'. PS: I can't even seem to unzip the 'gpx files Groundspeak sent me as a pocket query. How do you get the PQ on the GPS/Map/anywhere!!
  17. Thanks Sussamb, we met on another forum a little while ago when I was still deciding which GPS to go for....at that time it was either Satmap or Memory map.... Back to the subject...I have already downloaded Basecamp but very unsure how to use it! I'm not even sure it has installed properly (my PC is about 5 years old)as I have to run the programme every time I want to use it. I also have Birds Eye Select if that will help. Can you please expand regarding using Windows Explorer to rename the files? Thank you
  18. Been in touch with Garmin but still have a problem....I normally download cache GPX files into the GPS using GSAK, also using the macro in GSAK to download cache locations onto Memory Map. I have also found that if I download caches into the E20 onto the 'Geocache' file, then any further geocaches I try and download overwrites what is alreasdy there. I have also tried using 'Where to' and 'Manage Waypoint' options where if I enter a set of coords for a cache not vtoo far from me, then when I ask the E20 to take me there, it takes me to another cache miles away (one of those caches already downloaded as a GPX file). Garmin had an idea I was using an incorrect position format, but a search on this forum revealed I'm using the correct format ie hddd mm.mmm. I now also have a number of coordinates identified as 001, 002 for example which I need to delete...any ideas anyone??
  19. Having reviewed the guidelines for setting new caches, I'm not sure I want to proceed after reading the requirements in obtaining Landowners permissions. I had planned to set my caches along public footpaths/bridleways etc but it seems you need permission from whoever owns these as well. I had understood (perhaps mistakenly) that it was OK to place caches in these kind of places. If this is the case then fewer and fewer caches will be published. How on earth do you get permission for placing a cache on a public footpath?
  20. Bear And Ragged....it's the second type...a series of traditional caches with a bonus cache at the end.
  21. For various reasons it has been over a year since I've set a cache. I now plan to set a series of caches in my local area where clues have to be collected from each of 6 or 10 'standard' caches(for example A=1, B=2)which in turn will lead you to the final 'bonus cache. My problem is I cannot recall how to write and upload the caches to Groundspeak! Do I laboriously write a standard cache description and upload it x 6 or x10, or do I write and upload the bonus (unknown cache first followed by the others?
  22. Some 6 or so weeks ago whilst on a geocaching holiday to Gloucestershire, I managed to fall down a whole flight of stairs at our rented holiday house (I think I was only partially awake at the time..it was just after midnight and no, no alcohol beforehand!) I managed to break the upper part of my humerus in my left arm (fortunately I'm right handed). All thanks to A&E at Gloucester Royal for looking after me so well. Of course, with only one useable arm, geocaching in the field had to take a backseat, but have filled the hours digging out my local OS maps and looking at my Memory Map to determine potential locations for new caches...great fun! Also decided to return my eTrex 'H' to Garmin due to rubber waterproofing seal failing and should get that back tomorrow (Monday). Things are looking up. My arm is much much better and although not quite back to normal I'm getting there! While my GPS was away, started looking at upgrades....Satmap looks awfully tempting...but over £300 with full GB mapping...tasty! Anyone else had an enforced absence from their favourite hobby?
  23. I know of geocachers who get together and hunt down caches and log the finds independently. Does it work the other way round?. For example. a neighbour (a fellow geocacher) and myself would like to place caches in our area under joint names. Is this possible? Who gets the notification that the cache has been found for example? If this topic is covered elsewhere, then I apologise.
  24. Thanks....I found lots of info now so will make an attempt to fix this weekend (unless its sunny & warm, in which case I'll be out geocaching!)
