  1. Before going with a master reset, delete "\Garmin\GPX\Current". Make sure the GPX folder is totally empty.
  2. One thing I never saw mentioned here. If you have a run in with a predator, never run away, or turn your back to them. Predators will attack you out of instinct if you run or turn away. Another area that should be addressed. Feral dogs. They run in packs, they know our habits and they have no fear of us. They are among the most dangerous animals for people. There has only been one time I have been out in the woods without a weapon and wished I had one. I was stalked by a panther, I just happened to turn around at the right time, to see it prowling toward me. That made it stop and just look at me, I just stared it down and after several minutes, it took off the other way. This happened about 100 yards from my front door. Now I always carry a weapon. It's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.
  3. Free: Blackstar (google "blackstar blackberry" and follow the crackberry links) Pay: Cachberry at http://www.cacheberry.com/ Subscription: GeoCache Navigator at http://www.geocachenavigator.com/
  4. I have only done a little browsing of the site I posted above, but it seems to have a great deal of items that could be useful for GPS's.
  5. I was searching for 1:24k topo maps for areas not covered by Garmin and I found this site. 1:24k topo maps that are compatible with Garmin GPS. The Garmin releases have a lot more features, like elevation profiles, routing, or other things, but these cover more of the US, and they are free.
  6. You have both maps on the card? I was hoping to be able to do this w/ two different maps I've got in mapsource. How do you put both on the card? I have a 4gb card and when I put one on it seems to overwrite the other one...what am I doing wrong? After you get one map installed, go to the install location and rename it (I have mine named citynav2009.img and topo2008.img). Then you can install the next map. You can keep renaming and installing until you run out of space on the card.
  7. I don't use my Blackberry for geocaching (I have an Oregon 400T I use), but I do use it's GPS often. The accuracy is on par with my Oregon, under open sky. Under cover, it usually doesn't get signal. I have 3 cell phones with GPS, all of them (LG, Samsung and Blackberry) need occasional reboots to bring the GPS back online.
  8. I've been lurking for a while, just recently joined. I usually don't post anythign unless I have something new to add.
  9. One other thing, the "Blackberry vs iPhone" is just another one of those "Ford vs Chevy" things. Each one has it strong supporters and strong opposers.
  10. I have Sprint with a Blackberry. The service is usually pretty good across the country. There will be some places where one provider will get service and another will not, it happens with all providers. Sprint has one of the largest networks around. Sprint's main roaming network is Verizon. Sprint has some of the best prices around also. Now, the bad. Sprints customer service is the absolute worst. If you have a problem, don't expect much of a resolution. As an example, it took Sprint over a year to activate MMS on Blackberry's, while telling their Blackberry users that MMS would be released "very soon" and that they couldn't provide a specific date because eof legal issues. It also took Sprint over 6 months longer than any other provider to release the more recent Blackberry OS. I have been with Sprint for over 10 years, I've also been with Verizon, Alltell and AT&T during the same time frame. I choose Sprint for their value and good signal across the country. I would recommend talking to friends about their service with different providers in the area you will be using your phone.. Each provider has a 30 day "try out" period also.
