  1. In central MD, there's a known cache thief. He is not a kid, but a young (25 to 35 y/o) adult who should know better, but he does supposedly have a kid that he takes with him when he steals the caches. Groundspeak has the pertinent info about him, but they still won't ban his multiple accounts.
  2. If you found a cache or attended an event that day, and did your logs online, you should have gotten the souvenir. If you didn't log any caches for that day, you wouldn't get the souvenir.
  3. I've thought about creating a sock puppet account for hides, but only because there is a thief in my area targeting certain people. That's another very viable reason for the sock puppet account for hides.
  4. 1) Blank logs/TFTC only logs/copy paste logs 2) Cache thieves 3) Cache thief stealing a cache and GZ getting torn up by cachers searching for it, and never logging a DNF 4) Cachers who blatently refuse to log DNF's in general, so that I may do an extra check on the cache if needed
  5. As a cache owner I don't mind if people post a Note instead of a DNF. Whatever floates their boat. I want to know if they couldn't find the cache - it's a tough find (maybe I need to add more hints) or they think it may be missing. If it means they are more likely to tell me via a Note, rather then a DNF, then feel free to post a Note. It's a shame people won't log notes that they didn't find it either. Yeah, I'm still trying to figure out why people are so ashamed of a DNF when no one's worried it about but them. It's not like it takes away from their find count.
  6. As a cacher owner myself, please please please (did I mention PLEASE?) log your DNF's? If you don't log them, then you're not alerting the cache owner to the fact that it's either that hard of a hide, or it's gone. It personally drives me batty when I check one of my caches and it's gone, and it's so obvious that people have been searching, and not logging their DNF's.
  7. According to the guidelines, you must obtain coordinates with a GPS device. Smart Phone coordinates are not generally acceptable, as they are not accurate. 2.1. Listing Guidelines that Apply to All Geocaches This page is an extension of our Geocache Listing Requirements / Guidelines. Technical Requirements Listings must contain accurate GPS coordinates. You must visit the geocache site and obtain all the coordinates with a GPS device. GPS usage is an integral and essential element of both hiding and finding geocaches and must be demonstrated for all cache submissions. Projecting waypoints from locations defined by coordinates is permissible. For geocaches that include Additional Waypoints, see the guidelines specific to those cache types.
  8. Welcome to the addiction! I hope to meet you on the trails some time. cycleangela (Severn, MD)
  9. No thanks. I see enough "found it" and "TFTC" logs on my caches that I spent money on and took the time to place and maintain. Even if it's something short, please take the time to tell me about your experience. Cache owners enjoy reading the logs. In fact, I got a log on one of my caches the other day that I just had to re-read again, because it was that much fun to read!
  10. It depends on both sets of cachers. Some people want to search together, and some don't. One of my best caching experiences was a group FTF. We were there first, and some other cachers came up and joined the hunt. Afterwards we hung out for a few and enjoyed some good stories.
  11. Semi-Newbie (only 427 finds) needs help! I have a multi-cache very close to my home that requires converting from UTM. I've got the first stage (which contained the UTM coordinates for the final stage). How do I convert this to normal GPS coordinates so that I can locate the final? Many thanks! cycleangela
  12. I'd like to know if anyone knows of a policy regarding placing caches in Maryland commuter lots (e.g. placing a micro or nano on a light pole in a MARC train lot)? Thanks! Cycleangela
