  1. Congratulations! I enjoyed sharing the event with you. Here's a pic of the moment:
  2. Was out today with Bailey in the Sparta Glen area scouting the area for the possibility for a new series in 2008. We had pretty well traversed both hills pretty good and, given that there were a few denned bears in the area, I was surprised we hadn't come across any asleep. I had my wife's camera with a new super zoom and had just taken a picture of Bailey when I heard the sudden breaking of branches and disturbing of leaves. I looked to my left and down in the valley below my "Death by Hemlock Woolly" cache were three bears in full stride darting across the snow. They were all good size so I'm guessing a mom and two yearlings. I turned to shoot (the picture) and the new lense kept focusing on closer trees so I never got a shot. Very frustrating as it was really an amazing sight to see. There goes my National Geographic gig. Anyway, keep your eyes peeled if in the area as the bears are staying up past bedtime.
  3. Bummer, missed it! If anyone has a Nickel to trade I would be interested.
  4. Well I have to trade with you as you are one of the stories!
  5. Little Miss Avroair??? How sweet! Yep, Mrs Avroair is due May 17th. Are you hosting an event that day?
  6. I am. A new personal, non-trackable few trades and the balance are off to the wild! Here's a link to my THREAD.
  7. The gold version of the coin will only be available if found in a cache. My kids love the coins so "freeing" a handful up for trade here (30 tops) gives them some barter to grow their collections. It is also a great way for me to get chores done around the house.
  8. Congratulations! Keep on hunting!
  9. May not count (as she had found it previously) but Towel32 visited Stokes State Forest Petroglyph Trail Challenge last week to retrieve a coin. She reported it in good shape and left $5 as a motivator for the next finder. She also reported another logged find dated October 2007 that was not reported online.
  10. Here is a link to the YouTube video of the Caching Through The Snow #4 Event.
  11. Finally got around to pulling a video together of the Caching Through The Snow #4 Event. Here is the Good times!
  12. A couple people have emailed me wit a request to see what version #1 looked like. Here is a picture but these are all in my kids possession and they have only a few left to trade.
  13. I am making another personal geocoin with the objective of getting more people out to my caches. It will not be trackable so, if I understand the rules correctly, I can only offer it for trade here. I will be making 100 geocoins - 20 antique gold and 80 antique silver. Once it is complete (it just went to production), each of my 3 kids will have 10 of the antique silver geocoins each to trade. All the rest will go into my caches including a new series of "monster caches" coming soon. Here is the design: The design idea came from emails I get suggesting that I add more warnings to my caches description. Generally, these are in jest as I already have pretty lengthy warnings about bears, ticks, terrain, hunting, etc... Here are some of the stories that motivated the selection of warning signs: Bear: Almost all of my caches need this warning, especially "Hibernate". Cliff: The "Evil Little Man Deep In The Woods" fits the bill best for this one. Bigfoot: Yes, believe it or not a cacher swears he saw Bigfoot at "Bounce". Swamp: Avroair, Lakelady and JoiseyGirl reported on their fun in the Whittingham Swamp. Snake: Rattlesnakes and copperheads are common at my higher elevation caches like "Strokes Forest Petroglyph Trail Challenge" Water: I always enjoy reading logs for caches where I have used Water as a strategic obsticle. If you are interested in a trade, drop me a note with an idea of what coin you would be willing to trade for this one. I'll show the kids to see if they are up for a trade. If you don't get a trade, come hunt for my caches or watch the NE Forums for some contests where I will offer the golds. Again, these just went to production so it will be 3-4 weeks before I have them in hand. PS - My kids still have a few of the first version available for trade (also non-trackable).
  14. What can I say but thank goodness your wife and dog are alright! That's scary stuff.
  15. Yes, my "team" has dwindled to me and Bailey (my dog). My spin offs now all have identities of their own but we have not gone back to re-log caches they found although I would consider it fair if they did. Now, if Bailey leaves and tries to log her own finds, then I will protest. She does nothing but sit on the ground and watch me do all the work.
  16. I saw the Caching Through The Snow #4 "backcountry christmas tree" up there yesterday but haven't found how to "print screen" on this Mac. Oh well.
  17. Here is an earlier post on how to activate. I am not really a coin pro (as I make only the one a year) so I am frustrated like you that the activation has been a problem for a number of people. I have reached out to get advice on how to handle from OakCoins. I will pass along as soon as I get it. It is making me think I might skip the tracking code next year. It adds to the cost and I have a sense that very few actually need to be tracked. PS - I still have a handful of Gold and quite a few Nickel left for purchase.
  18. I agree that World Destructions is a great song, but I think Natureboy was referring to the music in Kevin's video. The music I used was a soundtrack - Ed Wood (Main Title) played by the City of Prague Orchestra. Sounds impressive like I actually listen to classical music. But no, it was in the iTunes Halloween Essentials. Sounded erie so I went with it.
  19. As of today, all orders that I had are in the mail and nothing is outstanding. I have about 10 Gold and 30 Nickel left if others still have interest.
  20. Anyone having trouble with activating their coins, here is the advice someone sent me to pass along: "Anyone having trouble with coin activation goto support@oakcoins.com Email your tracking # they will email you activation code."
  21. My daughter (TRL Pink Panther) will have a few of each to trade after XMas. But don't email her as it will ruin the surprise . Drop me an email if interested.
