Three countries cached in one day?
the family bu replied to Team WorldTour's topic in General geocaching topics
It does sound a great thing to do - as we live on an island - it would be hard for us to do. -
Geocaching needs a nickname for.......

Swag tends to be for the children, adults tend to cache for other reasons - perhaps after you have found more than 18 caches you may come to the same conclusion. My kids didn't like the bottle caps either. I agree - but if it bothers people that much why not just trade it or just ignore it - it is something aint gonna change and people winging about it aint gonna help. -

Fair enough – I have my fair share of piles of (as yet) unused crafting materials too me too - the hubs despairs at the amount of crafting stuff I have. Flugella maybe I will make my way to your neck of the woods to see if I can bag myself one of your sig items - I just love them x -
Is there a problem with the forums?

please forgive my ignorance - but not all of us are aware of who these trolls are and reply to their posts without knowing that they are 'fedding the trolls'. -
my sat nav gives me directions to POI - is that not the same thing?

I have been guilty of writing a log or two that just reads TFTC TNLN SL. But that is usually when I have done a trail and got lots of logs to write after a long day. I do usually try to write some things - even if it is just stopped and enjoyed the scenery with a cuppa. To be honest with you I hadn't thought that my TFTC SL logs may be upsetting to the CO. This is something that I will rectify and always write a few words on the online logs.

Can we hide a cache under a rock?
the family bu replied to davidvoy's topic in General geocaching topics
have u thought about at the base of a multi-branched tree or in a tree covered in ivy lmao?? -
The box will be the down the side of my house and can be reached by a path directly from the path at the front of my house - definately wouldn't be walking around my yard - which is not accessible from where the cache would be. It would be very easily accessible for anyone and will not bother me or my neighbour. I thought if I built a wooden frame for the box to hide in (up against my house) - then it would not be bothered by those that didn't know what it was - just look like a recycling box cover, and the recycling van will not fetch the boxes from the property so I dont need to worry about it being taken by mistake by them. You are right that I would be able to check it on a regular basis to ensure that it was in good order - I would hate for the books to get damaged.

What an amazing idea to register the books - then my little un can track the books. Yes we are looking at containers - I have some large plastic boxes with tight fitting lids - thought I might put one in the garden for a few days with some paper in to see how it holds up. I have also thought about building a wooden cover for it so that it is not open to the weather at all.

Let folks know exactly where it is, make sure you list your house number, and let your neighbors know. Do that and folks will be okay with it. My neighbour is a geocacher too lol x

My daughter (9yrs old) has been thinking about setting up a book exchange cache on our property. It would be down the side of our house, so we could keep an eye on it. Do people think it is worth doing, and if so does anyone have any ideas on how we could make it more appealing?? Please feel free to say so if you think it is a lame idea - I do not offend easily

What do you like the most about geocaching?
the family bu replied to alexparent's topic in General geocaching topics
my hubby works full time and I am a med student - he has to work a lot of over time to make up our money - even so the money is still very very tight, so many months there is far too much month left at the end of the money. So we use geocaching as a way to spend quality time together at little expense. We try to save fuel money to put in the car and we take a picnic with us and go on long walks. We recently did an 11 mile walk (with our 9 year old daughter) - got 41 caches. We love every minute of it and we are spending very little money are getting great exercise. Our family has really improved its relationship with each other since we got into caching - no more bored days doing nothing and getting on each others nerves. -
I'm getting a Vespa (125 or 250) in Oct - for the same reasons really - I have a Rav 4 at the moment which does about 19mpg and just loves fuel - and the price of fuel here is horrendous. I go to Uni in Oct - but my placement is only 3 miles down the road at the local hospital - so I thought it would be much better to have a scooter to save on fuel - plus it is free parking at the hospital for scooters. Another reason is I want to do the Brighton scooter run. But I will use it to do local caches.

Have you bought any? Seeing that you are localish to us maybe we could meet up and do some of them at some point. not bought any yet - just doing some research - but we would absolutely love to meet up when we get some. Hopefully it will be sooner rather than later. Do you have kayaks? any suggestions for what to go for??
