  1. if you hit help.. (where there is a web address you can't click on to visit) they use the new GCLive logo. I think the logo means they are using the new API or whatever it is. He has updated this sucker several times.. like once a day or something.. VERY responsive. I have some things I'd like to see in it, but I'll watch and see how it goes. It is VERY usable. Maps do not zoom up as far as the google map in the official app. This annoied me, but caching today, didn't seem to be a problem. not loading another layer of higher resolution maps may save some data charges... dunno. It also has trail dots it leaves to show where you've been. nice while driving, but they seem a little far apart while walking through a park or something. The settings show that you can cache the map to your phone so you aren't loading it over and over which may save some data charges for those of you not fortunate enough to be grandfathered on an unlimited data plan. This will be a great app in prolly a week or so. Give him a month and it will dwarf everything else out there.
  2. now you have went and done it.. got the cache police's attention..
  3. still loads slow pocket queries take FOREVER AND FOREVER AND FOREVER. if you have a large query.. hit the button before you go to sleep. it's that slow. the very first android app was slow on pocket query downloads... people complained and they quickly changed it and it was very quick. much like geobeagle import. my guess is they got tired of all the c:geo users and implemented some things to combat it's use. only a guess. about the same time they changed it where only one person could log in at a time. (that they have fixed) my suggestion is to go to the feedback sight and find a post for your probmem (they must all be there) and spend your votes on it. it does work and they do listen. except for the slow opening and horrendous pocket query downloads, it works great on my Droid X.
  4. I used my droid x and gps averaging to average coords to hide our first cache.. a few finders said the coords were off so i went back out and averaged them again and it was about 50' off. this supprises me since i have provided great coords to other caches in the past. there was treee cover but i let it average over 50 readings. the app told me i had accuracy to about 4'. i did the same thing for the second set of coords to get the 50' difference. I'm waiting on the next few finders to tell me what they think. in a few days i'll go back out and see how the coords are. with any gpsr, i think it's good to either step away a good distance and check again or come back later when differnet satelites are overhead. i have seen bad coords from lots of gpsr's.. lots from phones, but standard gpsr's as well.
  5. It's a shame we gotta stay with old maps to keep our good features. This was some good info.maybe the next version will have water in it.
  6. Card is not totally necessary. Drop the pq file in the gpx folder. It's a great gps for the road and geocaching.we found slot with ours before we switched to droids.
  7. We took a family trip several months ago... i kept my droidx in the car dock running the live map in c:geo so i didn't have to keep hitting "follow me" and "search here" while driving.. you can't be save while operating the phone and driving. don't do it!!!! i could have written a pocket query i know.. but have you loaded a large PQ into the android app lately? took almost an hour!!!! but i digress... we drove with the c:geo live map.. when we got to or close to GZ, we always fired up the official app "which still has no name"!!!! hopefully GS will bring out a live map.. on the feedback sight, it's being considered. i will truly love it when it gets here. as far as problems go.. i have had some.. but a feedback post and a short wait provided me with an update. if you can't provide them enough information to fix your problem, they can't and they won't. very simple.
  8. caches along a route is a good idea.. your start point and end points can be real close then drag new points to draw your polygon. pretty slick idea.. gotta remember that one.
  9. They aren't. How do we get good ones and how do we know when they are good?
  10. droid x with it's large screen rocks.. no real keyboard though.. but i got used to that. getting better accuracy than my nuvi.. if the numbers are real.. there are even a couple of apps for averaging coords if you need good numbers to place a cache. android is rockin...
  11. still got no gps signal here by the way.. no that anyone here can do anything about it..
  12. if you are in east texas with verizon, there is a problem.. but i thought it was only with droids.. i've been waiting on google to update some databases for a few weeks.. supposidly all they lack is finishing up.
  13. Unless he's been following me, no. I've been all over.
  14. My NUVI would regularly get accuracy of 12 ft or less attached to my windshield. 9 at a red light. Now its around 20 ft. plus. My droid x was getting 6ft at a redlight. I have no choice but to give it more time.
  15. I hear what you're saying and I agree. Just reporting what they are saying over there. I'd like to understand it all myself. Evidently the htc phones work fine in airplane mode. Droids do not.
  16. google "verizon gps outage" there are some people on an XDA forum or something that have alot more information. Verizon is finally taking ownership of the Alltel towers.. somehow this has screwed up gps reception. it's rumored to be back tomorrow.. we'll see. also after the towers are up, it'll take the google database awhile to repopulate or update or something. dont' know what that is either. anyway.. they know.. they won't tell us directory and i think someone knows someone who said they are working on it.
  17. No. I figured most looking at new posts would see it here. I hate to make another post.
  18. I have been using mine to cache all day today. Got a new thunderbolt I'vs been dying to try caching. what part of the country are you in? there may not be a problem in your area. A friend of mine was in Dallas over the weekend and never got a lock. Here in Tyler, we have nothing.
  19. I've checked 2 Verizon phones, Wirefly (also verison), Virgin Moble and AT&T. no gps satelites on any of them and definately no lock. I hope it's the testing the FAA notified us about.
  20. done it a few times today and it is automatically downloaded at least once a day.. no luck. now while it was working earlier, the accuracy on the nuvi was rockin.. when it went away, the nuvi accuracy got worse.. really makes me think it's with the signal and not the phones. wish i knew some other cachers with smartphones in the area.
  21. Still nothing.. was working earlier, but we were on a small road trip. when we got closer to home, it was dead again. I hope it comes back.
  22. back out again.. accuracy on my nuvi is poor again as well.
