  1. If you're talking about cacher stats, they do take a while to update sometimes... Also, you have to have found one of their monitored caches to be included- this link will help you find which ones are near you. Hurrah! Maybe the statistician saw my posting as I'm now on the list at ... =2491th in the UK! lol I looked at your co-ords list and I have found at least 2 of the ones nearest my home co-ords. Thanks for the advice.
  2. Couldn't agree more. I haven't read the whole thread, but it strikes me that the only person you're cheating by logging a non-find is yourself. If your conscience is happy for you to do that, then go ahead. I personally prefer to look back at the cheery smilies I've clocked up with a degree of satisfaction of how I found it, what it looked like, etc. Isn't it akin to cheating at sport or in exams otherwise, at the end of the day?
  3. Excuse my ignorance, but what's a BOAT? Presumably not in this case a little floaty thing (unless the rain has been on over-drive again!). I don't drive a 4x4 so am less likely to be unintentionally off-roading, but hope you can enlighten me anyway...
  4. I certainly log DNFs, but not all of them, especially where my spirits have sagged or something has forced me to give up (e.g. muggles or time limitations) before I gave the cache a thorough search. Some folk mention how long they have hunted before finding a cache and I marvel at their durability. In other cases, I know that I'm going to return, so mark it as a mental DNF for myself. If I list it as an official DNF when I haven't done the search justice, it implies it might be missing when I'm just not applying myself well enough. There's a few on my mental list of "unfinished business" and I'll get to them eventually. I don't like having unfinished business!
  5. Anyone know why my name isn't included in the lowly 203 section as that's my count at present? I am a full member. Is there something else one needs to do to get on the list?!
  6. Thanks very much. So easy when you know how. I'd already logged the finds, so have written notes for each. Now to find the one I've lost
  7. I'm sure this may have been asked before, but I how do we do it if there are no others on the TB's page? I did add one to a previous TB page, but can't remember how - it seemed easy at the time! I took a few pictures of 2 TBs I picked up together last week and thought it would be fun to show on their respective pages, but am not finding the right buttons to press. Help please.
  8. Is that even illegal? Maybe not in Tennessee, but I would bet that in Scotland, in public, that act would certainly be illegal. I would even hazard a guess that in some states it's illegal even behind closed doors. Sometimes though you just have to remember that you were young once and frankly, if ever they realised that half of East Lothian could see what they were up to, that should have been shame enough, but it's not something I'm going to go off and report.
  9. Did you report it? Should I ask what they were doing? Did you mention it in your DNF so other cachers are aware? Jamie No I didn't report it. I think you need to use your imagination as to what a teenage couple might be doing, and no I didn't record any DNF as I didn't even start looking! A lot of places that geocaches are concealed, are, by their nature places where covertness is sought. Sadly, we're not all engaging in such innocent pursuits and such overlaps could all too frequently occur.
  10. I too saw a crime being committed right by a cache yesterday. It was one I'd not managed to find last time, so had returned. However, when I saw a teen couple up to no good, I immediately decided they certainly didn't need me around, and scarpered. I shall have to return a 3rd time. If the girl is reading: wearing a bright red top for such activities is not to be recommended when you're as close to the main road (A1) as Seton's Doocot is! You may be camouflaged from the access point itself, but you can be spotted by every Tom, Dick and Harry driving past!!!!
  11. Quentin Crisp, I believe. http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/quotes/q...ncri136820.html
  12. Very disappointing that some people feel the need to destroy, in whatever manner. What I don't quite understand is why, if they feel it's so objectionable to pursue this activity, they don't remove the cache completely, rather than undertaking exactly the same activity as we are, but offending everyone once they've done so. Other than what they've written/removed, they are doing exactly the same thing, so as such, why don't they just sign as everyone else has and get on with it? Annoying though muggling is, you'd have thought that that's what they'd do if they had such a gripe with us. Interesting the spelling of "useing" and lack of joined-up writing. Draw your own conclusions on that one...
  13. Sounds a bit strange that all three were in front yards. Is your GPS properly calibrated?
  14. Apologies - it's a pathtag. It's round, metal and coin-shaped, so easy to confuse. This was one of the responses on their site: "WELCOME! And that is GREAT that you found a pathtag in the wild! I've only found one or two in the while here in the states. And by the way...the pathtag is yours to keep if you want it. Or you can put it in another cache if you don't want to keep it!" I'm getting the feeling that it's a "sister" site where sometimes the two pursuits coincide, but sometimes don't.

By the same token, can you rush out and find them, even if they shouldn't be logged for a few days? I already asked a cacher, and think I understood the reply, but want to be ultra sure.
  16. Is it true that all new hamsters originate in New Hampshire?
  17. Was just looking at the same myself. Wonderful visions of slapping foil over baldie bears in the Arctic ensue...
  18. I'm sure there's all sorts of reasons they go missing, however annoying it is. For instance, what if someone is hospitalised for a while? I know it's going to be relatively rare, but things like that happen. I'm too wet behind the ears to send TBs on their way, but have had 3? passing through my hands to date, and get pleasure from seeing where they head (not very far yet!), so for me, there's the incentive to move them on. However, if I do ever launch my own, I'd be pleased if they re-emerged and view it as a bonus, rather than expect it - sadly, a sign of the times. However, the very first cache I visited yielded a Geocoin which I duly logged on the Geocoin site. When I enquired what happened next, I was informed that it's perfectly acceptable to keep it if I liked, or even to trade it on. It is still in my possession (about 6 weeks later), so if that's wrong, please let me know and I'll re-hide. As you see, it can be plain ignorance. Although most of Geocaching is straight-forward, some of the protocols take a bit of getting used to, and I think it must be rare than you get actively malicious people, although there will always be one or two who love to spoil it for the greater majority.
  19. I love mine, and like you, have only recently acquired it. However, some of the "jumping around" I attribute to my surroundings at times, i.e., being by a wall, under trees, etc. Could it be this environment? I try to fact in some leeway for these, although at times I wonder whether the caches are where they say they are. Sometimes the information say the cache ISN'T where marked, but nearby...
  20. Cracking story, drsolly. A committed cacher indeed!
  21. Well like most of the others, I don't write War and Peace in the log, primarily to keep the subterfuge to a minimum. I feel I must appear suspicious enough as it is without taking ages writing in often unfavourable conditions. As a relative newbie, I find there's a lot of "it's not as good as it used to be" type comments, which gives geocaching rather a cliquey image, whether intended or otherwise, which takes the edge off it somewhat. Isn't the point of this that we all have FUN sharing experiences and histories of the wide blue yonder?
  22. Given there are hundreds of thousands of FREE caches around the world, it's really not the biggest deal if you can't access some that are Premium Member only. I joined so's I could download the full instructions onto the GPS rather than make endless printouts. Boy, it's addictive. Does anyone find they polarise opinions when they mention they do it? A lot of people look at me as though I'm from Mars and say it's not for them, but a few wise souls see the light, especially when I tell them how much I'm learning of the nooks and crannies of my part of the world.
