  1. Sounds very much like what I bought recently to try out. In the camping section of some store (I don't remember which, though) I picked up a waterproof match container. Stainless, rubber O-ring, screws shut. Might be a little longer, maybe 3 or 3.5 inches, but the same diameter. I was going to just cut down a pencil to fit. That and a small roll of paper, maybe preprinted with spaces for date and name. I also found, in a pet store, these small screw-shut containers meant for attaching to a dog's collar. A tiny slip of paper came with it, for the owner to put their contact info. These are very small, maybe 3/8 inch long, and about 1/4 inch diameter. Have to replace the paper every find or two. Or maybe, just put something in there, and have the finder report via email to verify the find.
  2. 1247 as of this morning. I am about 30 miles NNW of Philadelphia. There are beaucoup caches in the Lancaster area.

  6. The Pennsylvania Gazetteer has many marked as well, including a 'Covered Bridge' tour in the Allentown area.
  7. Gee - only the second one from PA to answer, and it's only a stone's throw from the other... Hello Tymber! I am up here in Bally, right in the center of town. (That's between Pottstown and Allentown, for the rest of you.) We cruised through your area last week on the way to one of the Reading caches.
  8. I rarely take anything myself, brcause, for me, it's the chase. For my kids, it's the pot of gold. I suspect many other families are the same way. So, I try to leave some things the kids like. Lately, I have started doing Matchbox cars. I will also have my kids go pick something from their 'saving can' (a popcorn tin that collects all the little toys that would otherwise get stepped on). I also am now leaving CD's and fishing lures for the older crowd. I have a ton of CD's that I no longer listen to, but are in great shape, and popular (George Strait, Alan Jackson, etc - mostly country).
  9. Read about it in the Pittsburgh Press, bought a GPS and off into the woods...
  10. I was visiting a friend back in my hometown of Pittsburgh last summer. Went to the new ballpark Saturday night, then, got a copy of the Sunday paper the next morning. It had an article about geocaching and it sounded like a lot of fun. I had some American Express gift certificates that I got at work over a period of time, and also a gift certificate at a particular shopping area in downtown Philadelphia. I rarely get downtown, even when our one office was across the street. I had looked around once, but didn't buy anything. By last summer, it was due to expire. Then I read the article in the Pittsburgh paper, and remembered that there was a Rand-McNally Travel Store in that mall. So, I put together all the certificates and got a Garmin Legend. Been some of the best non-money spent. Family gets outs and hikes in the woods. I can even usually interest my teen-ager for a whole five minutes at a time (sometimes less, if friends go on the search).
