  1. Yes, we knew this about the time 3.00 SW came out (6-8 weeks ago?). If you look in the firmware, you'll see the four models listed. This is extreamly common in the manufacturing business (and not just electronics). Much Much easier to maintain ONE source base than four models that are 98% the same with only a few extra peripherials added (compase and baro.). I beleive the base maps are the same (it would make sense). The differences people are reporting could be due to zoom level settings and such. The electronics may be different, but at least we know the CPU and memeory layout are the same.
  2. Gee, do you think Garmin could use the "STATUS BAR" at the top of the display to show status messages? ;-) Sloppy GUI schema. # Xciton
  3. Sh*t happens folks. Supply Chain Management only really takes over during the end of the project. You can't just blame them just because they are one of the last groups to touch a product. Bringing a new product to market on-time requires everything working smoothly (even stuff that is beyond their control). A simple piece of plastic inside the unit could be holding up the build, or any other item for that matter. It could be a quality issue, hardware/software bug. It's any number of things that could have gone wrong in the last 9 months or so. A six to eight week delay for projects that takes 6-9 months to implement is not unusual. Garmin hardware is typically of very good quality. I do feel for your pain however (I was hurting waiting for the 60CS to come out)....
  4. FYI, And it also seems this is the code base for the new 76C units as well (You'll find a reference to the 60C, 60CS, 76C, and 76CS in the firmware). It would seem both model types (60C/76C) are based on identical hardware platforms (minus the extra flash).
  5. FYI, I've been using screen protectors for 4-5 years on my PDA's. I've stuck with ONE brand called Fellowes WriteRight. I got them originally for my iPAQ, but have since been cutting them down to size for my Dell Axim and now my 60CS. They work GREAT! I've heard rumors that Fellows WriteRight may have changed their materials used in making the screen protectors. The ones I have (older ones) are quite clear. I'll need to buy some new ones soon, so I'll find out if they have changed at all (unless someone to tell me?) Here's what I've learnt over the years. Make sure the surface is absolutely clean of dust and finger prints. Anything left on will cause air gaps. Use the squeegee carefully. Apply starting at one end squarely and continue downwards unrolling the protector and right behind it with the squeegee. Most important: Don't worry about small air bubbles. You're not going to be able to move them off the protector (the material is just too thick for this). However, with the screen protectors I've been using, they seem to be semi-permiable and slowly releases the trapped air out from underneath the material. You'll start to see some positive changes in less than 24 hours. For everything to disappear, it's going to take a few weeks (yes, I said WEEKS) but it does happen. My Axim screen is 100% free of air bubbles (but it wasn’t when I first applied it). My 60CS is on its way (it's only been on for about 2 days now). I get at least 3-5 months use out of my screen protectors, but you should be able to go much much longer on the 60CS as your not using a stylus. I've seen other screen protectors that are quite cloudy, I'd be staying away from them.
