  1. I have to say that is one of the coolest cache containers I have seen. My son would go crazy over a cache like that he is only three and has a few little John Deere tractors he has found in caches. His favorite color is green and never passes up a tractor or truck in a cache. Great job!!!!
  2. Thanks for adding the option to see all the logs. There still is some formating problems in Mozilla probably because it is Microsoft generated code. I am using Mozilla 1.4.1 on Fedora Linux. The formating problem on the quick view page is still there and then on the all logs page which is shown below.
  3. That's just plain craziness. Using perfectly good cache containers to store leftovers.
  4. Now you have the right idea. You updated the difficulty level I might be wrong but it seems to be just a projection from the coordinates you posted you can enter that into the GPS and should be close enough to find the cache. If you have the coordinates to the cache you can check the bearing using a program called GeoCalc it was written by FizzyMagic it's a great tool when hiding caches. I have a new cache that has gotten some cachers frustrated, however this cache wasn't supposed to be a walk up and find it cache it was meant to be a challenge. Compass Course 101 If your sure of the coordinates and the bearing relax your part is done after all the challenge of this game is finding the cache.
  5. It's a geocoin some people make them up and leave them as signature items some are trackable, and some are just cool.
  6. I would try it and just post a note when you submit the cache explaining that it is just the start of a multi. Then let them kmow how far away the next stage or final location will be from the first part. You never know unless you try it you could also send an email to your local approver and run it past them first.
  7. Don't listen to Yagaway he has no authority to ask anyone to remove a cache. I received a poorly written vague email from him also. He is the postmaster in Noxen according to his profile. The Game Commision doesn't have a geocaching policy. Thanks JackQuest for hiding these caches and allowing me to adopt one of them. I really enjoyed Ricketts Glen and will take good care of the cache. Good luck and happy caching in VA.
  8. Click here for a version of CMConvert for MAC. One other note there is also a version of CMConvert for Unix and Linux.
  9. If you go the CacheMate route which I would recommend. I wrote a getting started tutorial last night for CachMate this is part 1 of a multi-cache... oops I mean a multi-part tutorial. Clcik here for the tutorial. I used to use GPX2html then plucker but CacheMate is much more simple to use and has quite a bit more features. I keep them the PDA and GPS seperate using EasyGPS to upload the caches to my GPS. I plan on trying CachMate and the GPS together I just need to get some time to make a cable.
  10. Knowing the basics of using a compass is a great thing to know especially if you ever get lost and you have a map and a compass it's not to hard to find your location. Finding Your Way With Map & Compass USGS How To Navigate The Backcountry It really isn't as hard as it seems. Once you master these techniques you can give this Cache a try.
  11. I like the idea about 2 or 3 logged DNFs. I did mention in the cache page that if anyone was really stuck I would email them a hint.
  12. My new cache Compass Course 101 has the local cachers going pretty nuts. Like briansnat's I know there where several attempts that were not logged. I didn't think this would be that hard it started out at 3.5 stars then I raised it to 4 stars. I am contemplating adding hints because it seems some are getting frustrated but that is part of the game they can't all be walk ups. Would you guys add hints? Maybe I should leave the hints out and raise it to 5 stars.
  13. It's pretty neat that all of a sudden after Christmas you see new cachers popping up. In my area there are several new cachers. Welcome and have fun.
  14. I would love to adopt Ricketts Glen. I am up there quite often all year round. This was a fun cache and really covered a good part of the mountain. I even have another cache The Stack which is on my way up to mountain springs.
  15. I would definetly recommend CacheMate it's a great program. I used to use GPX2htnl, and plucker but CacheMate has many more features and is simpler to use. Less steps to getting the files into your Palm. Click here to read a CacheMate review.
  16. I am confident in saying that all the cachers I have met would definatly try to help. They have all been really friendly. I think what he encountered is not the norm or at least one would hope so.
  17. The most I have done in way day was 20 traditional caches. Was a lot of fun.
  18. I was going to try and answer this but now I am confused.
  19. I use a Vx and CacheMate works great I transfer everthing with the infrared port on my laptop. CacheMate is an awesome program IMHO.
  20. I am sorry I think I may have misunderstood your question. If you are talking about the route to drive to the cache area you are right it is probably easier to just follow the map. I never load routes into my GPS in fact I never look at maps when driving to caches. I follow the compass screen to the cache location or look at the map on my GPS if I need to find a certain road. It adds to the fun driving around like a maniac trying t o get close to the cache. I have even thought about getting a sign for the back of my truck that says "Caching Vehicle Keep Alert For Sudden Stops & Turns" . When caching with someone else we have one person navigate with the GPS while the other drives just using the maps on the GPS.
  21. You shouldn't have files downloaded as ASPX files. If you go to the cache page look in the upper left hand corner there is a link that says "Download Waypoint File (*.loc)" click on it and you will download a file in .LOC format. In EasyGPS open the .LOC file. You can only use .LOC or .GPX file in EasyGPS. Then use EasyGPS to upload them to you Garmin.
  22. You can find caches without a GPS if you know what you are doing with a good topo map and compass. If your not too good with a compass you definitely need a GPS. Basically if the coordinates are good they will get you to within 3 meters of the cache. Try your first cache without the GPS and see just how easy it is then try one with the GPS.
  23. If I had a wife named Victoria and she spent $70 on undergarments she had better keep it a secret.
  24. Welcome! I can't help you with the programs you mentioned for the PDA because I have never used them. A Sportrak and Sportrak Map are GPS units made by Magellan. I have a Sportrak Map and it is a very easy unit to use. Garmin is another manufacturer of GPS units most Garmin people around seem to like the Etrex models. To locate caches near you click here and enter your zip code then click search then you get a list of caches near you.

    Cache Log

Go to this page and scroll down about halfway on the right hand side. You will see the following section: English [doc] English (micro) (doc) (132 logs doc) Sounds like you are looking for the micro log. These are kinda hidden on the page I have skipped over them myself when I was first starting out.
