  1. Yep, done that. Still there!!!
  2. Thank you for your reply. However the problem is I had already removed the .gwc file by doing exactly as you suggest (yes, there is a "Wherigo" in the Oregon directory). However the cartridge is still displayed in the Wherigo menu on the GPS after it is disconnected from the computer and can still be played. When I re-connect to the computer the /Wherigo/ folder on the device is empty except the two subfolders "Logs" and "Saves". Even when I delete these as well when I turn the GPS back on as a stand alone the cartridge is still there. I am trying to delete the cartridge on a permanent basis, but the .gwc file does not appear to act in the same way as when you delete a ".gpx" file. No problem deleting them. regards,
  3. Can I reactivate this as I am having exactly the same problem. I have tried updating the firmware and then doing a hard reset, but this does not delete my generated information on the Garmin 450t (Caches as well as Wherigo). Anyone got a solution? Thanks
  4. [quote name='colleda' timestamp='1400136269' post='5381211'] Thanks Martybartfast and Free Timers. I've not used this type of PQ before. I've had a look at those that came up after searching "canal" and I think that what I can see there pretty well covers what we need. I have a question re the distance from route and number of caches either side. The distance generally seems to be 5klm and the number 500 caches. I am a little puzzled as to how these to parameters relate to each other. Would appreciate a little clarification. Thanks. The 5klm is one of the parameters you can change on the "slide tool" When you generate the PQ this option will kick in along with other preferences (types of caches, ignore previously found, disabled etc.). 5klm either side of the canal is actually quite a wide area. I usually reduce this to about half a mile (sorry, I still think in old money). The 500 caches is the maximum number of caches allowed in the PQ. If you have reduced the distance from say 5klm to 1klm, then it is unlikely that this 500 limit will kick in.
  5. Edit to add: I think you might be able to create routes along the canal using the Google Earth method, as others appear to have done it, have a look here http://www.geocaching.com/my/userroutes.aspx and use the "Keywords" tab to search for "canal", there are quite a few public routes along canals, and user "Free Timers" seems to have created a few in the North West area. I have just noticed this thread and MartyBartfast is spot on with what he says (quoted above). I have had a look at the publically available canal routes. The Four Counties Ring with side trips, if required, for the Llangollen and Caldon Canal are already available. Most of the Cheshire Ring is also available as far as Marple (travelling anti-clockwise). There is a gap between Marple and the Bridgewater in Manchester City Centre, but quite frankly this section of canal is not a place to be stopping geocaching as you are travelling through the housing estates of East Manchester (apologies to anyone who lives/comes from there, but all the boating advice is to make an early start and keep going until you reach Manchester). So it is merely a question of down loading the PQs for each element of the canal route required (the creators are Nediam and Free Timers), specifying what distance from each side of the canal you are interested in and press the button. This is the way we cache when we take off for the summer on the canals. It is a simple download (provided a canal route has already been created, and most have been). PM me if you want more details on the precise route and enjoy your cruise. Hope you get the weather.
  6. "The first snow of the year is on the Cumbrian Fells, so winter has definitely arrived (at least in the north!)". OK we are a couple of weeks behind Marlake's quote, but better late than never. This pic was taken this morning as we walked around Grasmere to GC379B2 Grasmere Stroll 2.
  7. Thanks, guys, for all the suggestions. The problem with the POI is that the 2000 ft limit would make it too restrictive for a car's Satnav as the my use would be to identify possible caches in, say, a ten mile radius. Tried the other suggestions and none of them work for me. Many thanks anyway for your interest and taking the time to make suggestions, It is appreciated. Regards
  8. I have a Garmin Nuvi 200w. I cannot get the geocache symbols to show on the map when I download PQs or indeed the co-ordinates direct from the cache webpage. There is also nothing in the "My Data" file on the Nuvi. When I check on the PC with the Garmin Nuvi connected its shows the files to be there under E/Garmin/GPX/ directory. I use exactly the same procedure to download caches on my Garmin Oregon 450t with no problems. Anyone any ideas what the problem might be? Thanks
  9. Excellent dfx, Many thanks. There is a lot more depth to the 450T than you first realise (which begs the question why the manual is not more detailed, or indeed if there is a more detailed manual, how do I get hold of it?) Thank you again for your prompt step by step guide.
  10. I have just bought a Garmin 450T and am struggling a bit with it. I have use a Garmin nuvi in my car for a couple of years and quite happily copied over PQs onto to it (click and copy PQ, unzipped, into the Garmin/GPX file on the D drive). This seems to also work OK 450T, but I cannot find how to open the text/description for an individual cache. From the main menu on the 450t I go to Geocaches icon, "find a Geocache" and they all appear to be there in distance from location order (and cache name). my questions are 1) How you you drill down behind the cache name to get the full description? 2) Is there any way of changing the cache heading to cache ref no instead of cache name? 3) Also, not related I have put a microSD card with Garmin GB Discover map. This shows the National Parks here in the UK. We live just on the boundary of the park. The map is showing blank (white) outside the park boundary. I would have thought if it does not have the detailed mapping, it would simple default to the pre-loaded base map. Should this be the case? Sorry for the dumb questions. I have read the manual and trawled through the forum looking for this topic and cannot find it. As thousands of you are already doing paperless caching, I know I am in a minority of one, so be gentle with me. Many thanks
  11. Excellent Lee!!!!!!!!!!!!! I downloaded the newer version, v4.1, and everything is now working perfectly. I have no idea why the iPhone stopped working, but many, many thanks for your step by step idiot's guide to correct it. It is appreciated. Regards
  12. I have a very old iPhone which I use as a PDA to download the descriptions of caches within a PQ. About a week ago it stopped downloading PQs. It knows a new PQ is there, tells me it is downloading it but hangs at the downloading stage until either the battery runs out or I get bored and caancel the download. I am not aware of any doing anything different, The Geocaching app is v3.1 I would delete it on the iPhone and try reinstalling it, but I don't know how to!!! Yes, I am a computer illiterate. Any suggestions anyone? Thanks
  13. Thanks guys, It works........................ One problem solved. Now look out for my requests for help on how to download to my Garmin Etrex H (serial cable simulator) and how to get Windows 7 (64 bites) communicating with my ancient Palm 21 Zire!!! But that is for another day. Caching today I think. Thanks again. Free Timers
  14. Hi, I don't think I know what I am doing, but I attempted to click and drag the Geocaching zipped file to the Garmin/GPX file without using EasyGPS. I noticed that all my failed attempts to download from EasyGPS are also on the Garmin/GPX file, but there are just sitting there. They will not download to the Garmin Nuvi 200W (unless you can tell me how to do it!!!). Regards
  15. My laptop went dead on me. I bought a new laptop which operates on Windows 7 (64 bites). This has given me all sorts of problems , i.e. Windows 7 (64 bites) will not support my old Palm 21 zire. However I have also got problems downloading to both my Garmin Etrex H and my Garmin Nuvi 200W which should be easy. (I had already set these up on my old laptop without any problem). I have downloaded Easygps and loaded on a Pocket Query. However I cannot get the Co-ordinates onto either of my gps. Let's concentrate on the Garmin Nuvi 200W first. I have set up the correct Satnav within Easygps and it responds with a USB connection. I can load from the Nuvi 200W up into Easygps, but not from Easygps onto the satnav. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Free Timer
  16. What about searches for existing routes (good for rivers, canals etc)? Most of them have already been mapped and saved. Trouble is, is you do a search then only the first page comes up. Thereafter (page 2, 3 ,4 etc) it reverts to random routes. This really is a pain. I believe geocaching.com know about it but cannot give a date when it will be fixed.
  17. Hi there, Is there any further news/updates on this problem? About to leave on our annual inland waterway cruise and this function (beyond the first page) is a very useful tool, but I am now running out of time rapidly. Any idea when this might be fixed? Thanks Free Timers
  18. Hi there, I do exactly that with a Nuvi 200W. It gets the car to within walking distance of the cache and then I switch to an eTrex H. Both are the cheapest in the range, but I find more than enough for my needs. I download a PQ, use the same file to download waypoints on both the Nuvi and the Etrex and to an old Palm Zire 21 PDA for the cache details. Sounds complicated, but all caches transferred in less than a minute or so. regards
  19. Both to bump and to ask if there is anywhere on the menu pages of the eTrex H where I can see how many waypoints are stored? Thanks
  20. Morning PDOP's Yes, I had considered that. I use Cachemate. When I get the PQ, it is zipped with two files in it, one for the cache and one for the "parking" waypoints. I usually delete the additional waypoint file before downloading onto cachmate to eliminate precisely that problem. What I don't understand is there has never been a problem with the car Garmin satnav, but there is one with the eTrex using exactly the same file download. Both the saynav and the gps claim to have capacity for 500 waypoints (I think!!!).
  21. Hi there, Yep, I always delete the old waypoints before uploading a new ones. Also missing waypoints usually are within a mile of start point having driven the car to the nearest parking place. Yep, also checked by name and it isn't there. I suspect it is something to do with the capacity. Perhaps the Etrex can only hold 500ish waypoints rather than 500.
  22. I use a Garmin eTrex H alongside a Garmin nuvi 200W and a Palm Zire 21. I create a PQ (usually 450 to 500 caches) and download the co-ordinates to both GPSs and to the PDA. The capacity of both GPSs is 500 waypoints. I use the Garmin nuvi 200W to navigate the car to the cache area and then the Garmin eTrex H and PDA to walk to the cache GZ. However I have found that a small proportion of cache co-ordinates have not been downloaded onto the eTrex H, although exactly the same PQ has downloaded onto the nuvi 200W without any problem. There is no indication whilst doing the downloads from the PC of any problem; it is only when out in the field, after you have left the car, that you realise that the Etrex H does not have the co-ordinates for the cache you are looking for. This is no big deal as I just punch in the co-ordinates which are also saved on the PDA, but I am curious to know whether it is just me, or whether anyone else has the same problem?
  23. It OK now. Managed to sort it myself with a bit of a play on my hotmail account. Go to "options" (top right hand corner). Choose "Junk Mail". and get up safe senders. I didn't think this was the solution as there had been nothing in my "Junk mail" account, however having tested it with a "Pocket Query" it seems to have worked.
  24. Hi, Many thanks for your prompt reply. Can you point me in the right direction on how to get Hotmail to "Whitelist" Groundspeak? I have had a look at my hotmail account, and it is not obvious to me (an email illiterate) how to contact them with this request. Many thanks
  25. Same problem with us. We are with Hotmail, but have not received any weekly updates for two weeks now, nor cache watchlist notifications. We don't realy want to set up yet another email account. Any sign of this being resolved?
