  1. It would appear there was an update yesterday to the Wherigo site pages. I noticed the copyright was updated and something happened to the images on the Wherigo state pages - like the're gone - Florida Using IE 6.0.2900 and FF 3.0.6 Deane AKA: DeRock & the Psychic Cacher - Grattan MI
  2. If you don't think the Colorado and the Oregon weren't designed to be more attractive to geocachers than the 60 series you are deceiving yourself. They have all the basic functions of the 60 series plus handle paperless caching, plus play Wherigo cartridges. For those of you that consider it to be a lateral move that is because Garmin hasn't responded to all the requests that cachers have made for upgrades. If those units had the upgrades to the software that we are all requesting cachers would be raving about them. Deane AKA: DeRock & the Psychic Cacher - Grattan MI
  3. If anyone things the problems raised so far are non issues .... well you are sadly mistaken. It's problems like these that give a product a bad name and turn users off. And that translates into lost sales. You only have to look as far back as Magellan for an example. Used to be a major player in the handheld GPS industry with geocachers. And where are they now? The issues raised so far pertaining to geocaching on the Colorado and Oregon aren't the only ones that seem to be neglected by Garmin on these units. The Wherigo player on both the Colorado and the Oregon seem to have been forgotten as well. There are some major issues with the player for both units. As a business partner, GC.com, has a vested interest in seeing that Garmin makes updates to their units. I'm just not sure how much leverage they have and how aggressively/effectively they are at applying it. It's my guess that Garmin has probably spread their available resources to thin to cover all their products and is concentrating on their more popular/profitable ones. Hmmm ... sound familiar to you Wherigo and iPhone folks. Garmin needs to hear from everyone concerned, both business partners and end users. Deane AKA: DeRock & the Psychic Cacher - Grattan MI
  4. And now I'm havin problems uploading pictures to a cache log on two different caches! It just gives me the error page after a long time trying to send. My boo-boo. Seems I was trying to upload a some large pictures. Deane AKA: DeRock & the Psychic Cacher - Grattan MI
  5. Yep, still a problem. It's not the image server, I can still view pics from a cache page. Where are you Nate? Deane AKA: DeRock & the Psychic Cacher - Grattan MI
  6. Is anybody else having trouble with the Javascript link to the Gallery page in a members profile: Deane AKA: DeRock & the Psychic Cacher - Grattan MI
  7. I have discovered that the number of finds a cacher has aquired (high or low) doesn't mean that they value the same things in life as I do. When meeting new cachers I try and avoid/discourage the talk about number of finds. I think it helps us discover each other better with the burden of "labels". But sometimes no matter how hard I try .... Deane AKA: DeRock & the Psychic Cacher - Grattan MI
  8. Shh. I was going to tell him it was just because he's a Canadian. No, that would only be the case for the icon for the GPS Maze event in Kitchner later this year. Deane AKA: DeRock & the Psychic Cacher - Grattan MI

  11. Two more Michigan cachers to add to the list of Platinum EarthCache Masters: Hitechman and Hitechgal. Congratulations to you both on this achievement! 12. That's fairly sophisticated protection that will defeat most North American armchair Wherigo cachers. Yep, Google translator needs a couple of more decades to work for this purpose. And that's why I said what I did when you took up the challenge: great potential to be interesting! You have confirmed my theory of how to crack the cartridge in question. Now you have me wondering what the exotic methods are. Deane AKA: DeRock & the Psychic Cacher - Grattan MI
  13. This has great potential to be interesting. Deane AKA: DeRock & the Psychic Cacher - Grattan MI
  14. Oh, I believe that you can crack almost any cartridge. I just thought I would throw a toughie your way. Let me know if you make any progress on it. Deane AKA: DeRock & the Psychic Cacher - Grattan MI
  15. That sounds like a challenge to me. Try this one on for size and report back please (not my cartridge or anyone I know). COGer Goes Mexican Try playing it on the emulator and see how answering the questions goes. No fair asking for help (you'll know what I mean when you see it). Just curious! 16. The physical cache container will have to abide by the normal proximity guidelines as any other cache, 528 ft or 160 meters. From the Wherigo cache guidelines: Cache saturation applies only to physical containers, and not virtual elements. Standard geocaching guidelines apply. That being said, unless the other cache is a virtual, EarthCache, or a stage of any cache that has no physical container (like figuring coords from plaque). You may ask for an exception, but they are hard to come by. One that usually works is if there is a physical barrier between the two caches (river, gorge, etc.). There still could be a saturation issue, but that could be overcome with adequate permission. The best person to ask is your reviewer. Go ahead and float the idea past them before you finish your cartridge. Good luck and looking forward to seeing your cartridge and cache. Deane AKA: DeRock & the Psychic Cacher - Grattan MI
  17. I didn't realize that Roger. Congratulations! Sorry I didn't include you on the previous list. So here is the updated Michigan Platinum EarthCache Masters list: South Lyon Trekkers Rathergohiking Rattrak Cyclops Brummelbear The Conman Lost Scouts DeRock & the Psychic Cacher Anybody know of any other Michigan geocachers that have reached Platinum status that I've missed? 18. You have received good advice from the previous posters to the thread. My advice us to ask your local reviewer first. If they have any doubts they will refer you on to Groundspeak for further clarification. I offered some advice last year on this very subject. Most (if not all of it) is still relevant. Your mileage may vary. Deane AKA: DeRock & the Psychic Cacher - Grattan MI
  19. I hear you on the expensive hardware needed to participate in the Wherigo experience. I'll ask MickEMT if he can arrange a group experience that day. Yeah, I "feel your pain" about the snow. We've had 89" of snow so far this season, but only about 12" on the ground currently. It's the cold temps that are the killer right now for us, only in the teens for highs. Deane AKA: DeRock & the Psychic Cacher - Grattan MI
  20. Here is a link to the event on the 7th of Feburary: GPS Adventures Maze Event. I've been to both the Maze and to the event held at the same location (Indiana). I would recommend both to any geocacher who has interest in the history of the GPS system, the history of geocaching, and likes to have fun. It's educational and fun - all at the same time. That's saying a lot in today's high tech, multi tasking world to entertain and educate both adults and kids. If you go on Feb 7 you will get a double benefit - an event smiley and a GPS Maze smiley (along with a brand new icon for most cachers). And usually, you get the added benefit of meeting someone from Groundspeak. I see that someone has mentioned Shuana will be attending. A great lady, who BTW lead the development of the GPS Maze exhibit. I think it's worth a 2 hour drive - heck I drove 3.5 hrs! While you're there you should also check out the brand new Wherigo cache on the Museum grounds: RMSC Wherigo. There are also 30 geocaches within a 2 mile radius of the Maze, including 3 letterboxes and an EarthCache. Now those are the kind of numbers that excite me. Unfortunately, one number discourages me: 392 miles, as the crow flies, from my house! Deane AKA: DeRock & the Psychic Cacher - Grattan MI
  21. $100 U.S. should get you a local with a Mexican skiff in Gales Point. Only takes about an hour to an hour and a half (one way) if the seas are running chop to light chop. The airfare to get there is the killer part. The phone call would be cheaper but not nearly as much fun! Deane AKA: DeRock & the Psychic Cacher - Grattan MI
  22. OK Roundnround - which PCB cacher has hid the cache causing all the excitement now? I'll add it to our must do list when we come down with the Tikibirds this spring! Deane AKA: DeRock & the Psychic Cacher - Grattan MI
  23. The heck with Time, where's the Maxim and Road & Track! Deane AKA: DeRock & the Psychic Cacher - Grattan MI
  24. Use to be quite popular. And yes, plastic containers are the best. Read (and see) the whole story. Deane AKA: DeRock & the Psychic Cacher - Grattan MI
  25. I can never read these things. But when one of these came out in our town I was able to find the free software online to decode them! The cache rating seems fine to me. Deane AKA: DeRock & the Psychic Cacher - Grattan MI
