  1. I've spent all morning emailing Hotels and B&B's for Saturday night boarding Angela and I will be driving up on Satuday morning (caching on the way) and will attend the meet-up at 5.00 pm and driving back (caching on the way also) on Sunday back home to Glasgow. If anyone wanted a lift either way ... just email us Right...now I need to check if there is a ski lift we could take to the top of Ben Macdui ??? Team Ullium.
  2. There has already been a few caches where that actually was the case Nick
  3. Much of Angela's and my enjoyment of geocaching has been meeting and making such great friends Thanks everyone for being the entertaining characters you are Team Ullium.
  4. Many thanks people for the kind congratulations There were a couple of moments when I thought I might have to be air lifted off the moor though Cheers, Team Ullium.
  5. I got mine from the local vet....the set came with two plastic removers...one large and one small. Although the cost was about £7 they look a bit more professional than the one in the link....though probably it will do the business
  6. What a great weekend it was and FoF's report has caught the essence of it in spades Thanks FoF for a great report
  7. Of course I accept what you say is perfectly true Forester ! But given the background to your dispute with FoF don't you think that we might have been expected to jump to this conclusion and perhaps you could have been excused that by giving us this explanation and information from the onset that you have now put forward at this later date ??? That way we would have had the knowledge that all this was purely coincidental and instead of heaving a groan of 'what now' we could have shrugged our shoulders and got on with looking forward to this coming event with eager anticipation....which I certainly was when you first accepted the responsibility of organising it ?? You probably know I am speaking the truth as I have often encouraged you to attend our events and let sleeping dogs lie...so that we could all get on with our lives and in particular geocaching ??
  8. I accept all your reasons Forester for choosing that particular date! I also apologise for suspecting that 'The American Ladies of Stockbridge' was a reference to the fact that you emailed me accusing one particular American lady, who lives very close to your chosen venue, of purposely holding up your progress of organising this event!! So I think HH and myself could be forgiven if we suspected this very co-incidental reference to American Ladies !! I still think, under the circumstances of your very negative feelings about this lady, that your choice of venue was to say the least unfortunate ?? With at least 12 miles to choose from one would imagine that this stretch of river (which already apparently had a clean-up event scheduled on it) would have been the least appropriate ?? However I still would like to see this event be a resounding success and the forerunner of an annual Scottish event and if Angela and myself can be there we certainly will be.
  9. Unfortunately I may not be available to attend on the 8th of May as I expect to incapacitated somewhat round about that date! However, even if it is possible for me to attend I will need to consider carefully the motives for choosing the venue for this event. Like Haggis Hunter I suspect this location and the previous one were just too much of a coincidence....especially with these not too subtle references to American Ladies Residence Associations or whatever this so called club is being named at present. This whole idea of a Scottish CITO, which most of the Scottish geocachers welcomed with open arms when it was first proposed, must now be giving anyone who said they would attend room for second thoughts. Which is a grave shame because had it's organisation been conducted in a proper manner I am certain it would have been not only well attended but a resounding success.
  10. If we can possibly make it ... Angela and I will be up for this event And I am very surprised no one has organised one before now!!! But perhaps there has been one before we got involved with geocaching ???
  11. http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20050407-4788.html Regards, Dan Thanks for the heads up Dunos
  12. I would just like to scotch (or should there be the word 'drink' in there somewhere?) the rumour that a selection of my logs have been collated by Wlw and written up into a screen play for a possible blockbuster film to rival 'Raiders of the Lost Ark'
  13. I think most people would agree with you there HH....I certainly do I would just like to add that I see nothing wrong with TNLN or TNLNSL when accompanied by a fuller log comment either on the physical log or the online one! I realise that this was probably taken as rote...but just thought I would underline this aspect.
  14. It certainly has...I can think of at least two cat identification barrels which have been used as micros and they are considerably smaller than a 35mm canister In both instances they were justified as far as I was concerned...however I do agree with Pharisee in general I have never been a fan of micro caches...but having said that if I saw a great location and the only solution was to resort to a micro I would...but only as a last resort.
  15. I have lost count of the number of times I have been forced to delete Fugawi and re-install it because it froze up my Palm M505...so if there is a solution or a workaround to this map problem I would dearly like to hear it ??? Simple get Memory Map I just wish it was as easy as that Naefearjustbeer Considering that Fugawi has better maps ... much much cheaper maps ... and is considerably many times cheaper over all than MemoryMap...for someone on a pension there is no question which one is the winner However, if you are so loaded as to take pity on an old pensioner and would like to donate me a copy ... I would be overwhelmed
  16. Aye, well... when a person says something like "It's on the north side of the thing", you sort of assume that he has some vague idea of where "North" is... -Wlw I thought HH said "the north end"...but if he said "the north side" then I think he might have been close enough Well it was close enough for one sharp eyed geocacher
  17. I have lost count of the number of times I have been forced to delete Fugawi and re-install it because it froze up my Palm M505...so if there is a solution or a workaround to this map problem I would dearly like to hear it ???
  18. An unnecessary comment Forester There is no law that says we should all have WAAS enabled if we don't wish to.... and as I said before I have had some very accurate finds without it!!
  19. When I first bought Fugawi it was to plan routes for walking in conjunction with my GPSr and to be fair it did this very well...a bit clunky and not all that intuitive but it did everything I wanted it to do. However, when I started geocaching and got around to buying a Palm I hit all the problems you have Phoenix and with just as much frustration! However, if anyone does have workarounds for the map size restriction or any of the other problems...I would be delighted to read them I know there are many IT specialists on this forum...so I would guess it is more than probable some of them will have found a way around most of these Fugawi problems ???
  20. A fair comment Learned Gerbil ..and one which perhaps once we all have had more experience of using this relatively new facility we will be able to answer with more conviction However, it is a very appealing reasurance to see one's GPSr reporting that you are likely to be within six or seven feet as opposed to six or seven yards ... even if it is arguable
  21. Now that is interesting Gee Bee I use NiMh 2400 rechargeables and I couldn't believe the battery life I seemed to be getting .... if you are experiencing a similar battery life then Garmin must have come up with some great new battery life saving technology since their previous units Aslo, the 'D's mean that you are recieving the EGNOS corrections...if you don't see the 'D's then you are not...it's as simple as that !!!
  22. I have the new Garmin Legend C (colour) and reportedly it gives 36 hours constant usage on 2 AA batteries and although I think this might be something of an exaggeratiion, I have so far never had to replace my batteries even after up to three days constant cachying. So it is very much better than any other GPSr I have used. Of course it won't be switched on all the time, but considering I use it in the car to find the car parking co-ords, it gets quite a hammering. So normally I have the GPSr switched on from the moment I set off until I find the cache...with WAAS switched on. Just this last few weeks I also have noticed a marked difference in reception of EGNOS in that I rarely seem to get the 'D's showing but I have put that down to perhaps due to atmospheric conditions which can sometimes take longer to lock on than at other times. So I maybe just haven't had it switched on long enough. Also, I have never needed to use the battery save mode on any GPSr I have owned as the rechargeable's I use give more than reasonable service. So I cannot comment how useful this option would be .... I have always assumed that the battery save option reduced the track points recorded and I was always reluctant to go down that road seeing that I save my tracks to my computer when I get home. But like others I am not all that convinced that this extra EGNOS correction facility is all that necessary for normal geocaching and I have had some amazingly accurate readouts on an 'non WAAS' enabled GPSr in the past so having it switched on all the time at the moment is just to satisfy my curiousity to see if I really can observe any difference
  23. Pretty sure that's a Garmin thing. It's a Garmin thing. Shutting off WAAS in a Magellan was reported (in a long dead thread) to have no battery effect. I'm still not convinced RK No disrespect meant but can you give my more proof than just that it was stated on a long dead thread??
