  1. I'm so glad you started this chain. I'm interested in upgrading from my Garmin GPSMap60c to a Garmin GPSMap 60cx and was wondering just how much better the receiption on the new unit is. I find myself extremely limited with the 60c as most of the survey work I do is in the woods, and, it doesn't take much tree cover for the reception to wink out. So, those of you who invested in the 60cx are fairly happy then? Please let me know if there's anything else I should be aware of. Thank you.
  2. I couldn't help but try again at the Huntsville, Ontario CT. It nearly worked. The sales lady was v. confused at the difference and was quite willing to pursue the issue until she saw the notice and then it was basically game over. And as for issues of morality and conscience, I have no problem whatsoever looking for a bargain especially in a store like CT that is charging well over $150 over the price of this unit at most other stores (like GPS Central and Prairie Geomatics). But hey, them's just my 2 cents.
  3. To IronMaiden and all you others . Hate to brake it to you all but no matter how "cool" and "un-nerdlike" you may consider yourself, in my book of definitions, by virtue of not just knowing what a GPS is but by knowing how to use one AND BY USING IT! you definitely qualify in my mind as being a geek. And please. I absolutely and above all else mean no insult by this. I agree with the post that states it's like being part of a wonderful secret society. However, let it be known that I am now reevaluating my use of geek and I may be replacing it with sometime in the future with a word that will be less, well, off putting to those who think it is some kind of insult (of course, for all of us acknowledged geeks, we know better....) ;0
  4. You know, it's interesting the things I find I take for granted. I was telling my sister about geocaching and she was quite interested as she lives in England and wanted to know if there were any caches in her neighbourhood that she could go find with her niece. As we got to tallking she asked about the perceived bomb-threat that these stashed caches may cause as there had recently been a bomb scare in a park near to where she lives. Just got me thinking about the crazy world in which we live. I hope we never get to the point that we get too paranoid that we can no longer enjoy the small pleasures in life (like geocaching!)
  5. Cool topic. never really thought much about the handles people choose. In grade 9 we were studying plate techtonics and our teacher was very creative and had us each be islands that joined up to become Gonwandaland (like a reversal from when it was all Pangaea). I got to be the unique island of Galbion. It's stuck ever since. Unite Gonwandaland! (...and the avatar is obvious if you know me: I'm never far afield without my ramunctuous red heeler Angel)
  6. Hey, I'm a woman and I'm into geocaching. I don't think it's so much a gender question as it is: Who's a nerd?! Major nerd sport! Yippee for all of us outdoor enthusiast nerd heads. Can't get more techno swamped than geocaching! Let's hear it for us kick-a** women geocachers!
  7. tanks FlashMaster! Worked like a humdinger! Yippee.
  8. I kinda goofed as I went in with no catalogue but had to wait as they UNPACKED their brand new catalogues. I goofed again as they have the GPSMAP60C but it was still at the back. The sales person informed me that the catalogue had a typo (yeah, big surprise to me) but that they would have the unit for sale at $699 on Monday. So.... I told a good friend of mine the scoop. He had his catalogue, and he'll go in on Monday and ask for the item at catalogue price. Well... it's worth trying. Cheerio
  9. I'm in Squamish, B.C., just for the heck of it, I'm going to head down to our local CT and see if I can't take advantage of this great opportunity. Will post back shortly and let you know if there's any chance here - although I completely doubt it!
  10. Okay, I hope I'm in the correct forum for this question of mine, but I'm still trying to figure out how everything works. I have this lovely Garmin GPSMAP 60c which I can manually add caches too but I cannot figure out how I can download these geocaches automatically from the website. Could someone please explain to me if I can a) download these points directly to my GPS via the USB connector, if I need a serial port connection to do this, and c) if I can't just download the geocache points into the mapsource program I have on my computer. I need help! yoikes what have I gotten myself into?!

    New Too!

"Have I checked out the dedicated geocache mode"? Cheesh. What kindofa question is that! The real question is: "Have I put the unit down yet?!" It is very exciting unit but I really got this model to help serve the needs of StreamKeeper groups in my community - yeah, right. (well, that's my story and I'm sticking to it!) I really do have a lot of mapping to do. honest, and it's really not just that there might happen to be a geocache in the area...
  12. Personally I've been waiting for the poles to reverse. We're long overdue (several 100,000 years or so). Now that would be confusing!

Well folks, Just got a garmin gpsmap60c, got it figured out, and checked out the geocache website only to discover this new addiction. Yippee! I can't wait to discover more cache sites, treasures, and friends!
