  1. I'll have to go back and look at some of my recent TerraPOS processing logs. Most of the time I try to wait for the IGS orbits. Don't pay much attention to the satellites unless I'm having a problem getting a good, tight solution.
  2. Would be nice to have a way to flush the current almanac or the 'hotfix' log so as to force a fresh search of the constellation. Satellite health: http://earth-info.nga.mil/GandG/sathtml/satinfo.html Looks like there's a new one going up in the fall.
  3. I was getting weird reception yesterday evening and this morning with the 400t. Might be related.
  4. From software bulletin at work: "The newly launched GPS satellite SVN49 (PRN01) has been activated. This update contains all data required for TerraPOS to make use of this satellite." I received the notice yesterday but not sure exactly when the satellite went online.
  5. Unzip the file that GC sends you. One GPX file is the geocaches, the other is the children waypoints of the geocaches. Copy both of the files (if you want the children waypoints) to your unit...DriveLetter/Garmin/GPX/ For me, GSAK is nice for exporting the children as POIs instead of waypoints. This way your waypoint list isn't populated with tons of ones you didn't create.
  6. Garmin must have hired a bunch of old Windows programmers when they got laid off.
  7. I use the Oregon on my motorcycle. Works great.
  8. Used the new firmware today while riding my motorcycle, Cleveland, OH to Erie, PA and back. 6 hours riding, auto routing on, numerous automatic changes to the route as we took miscellaneous turns, no highways. Didn't have any shutdowns or problems. After using a few times on the bike now, I have to say that this is a great unit for on the road use. Oregon 400t v2.96, City Navigator NT 2009, default topo.
  9. Those tunnels are great. Moonville tunnel was my favorite. You can see the crumbled foundations of old buildings that used to be along side of the tracks. Looks like a town. Went to college down there. Had a blast hiking, biking, fishing and birding. Be sure to hike around Lake Hope. You'll see osprey, beavers, barred owls, various other raptors and some reptiles. They're all there if you know where to look. Man, I have to get back down there. Now I can turn it into a caching trip on the motorcycle.
  10. Disregard questions. I've found some good info here about it.
  11. http://coord.info/textmarks.aspx Anybody used this service at all? Got it from a link at gc.com. I signed up, figured what the hay. I can type faster on my QWERTY phone than I can on the Oregon's touchscreen. Just not sure if it logs the find or DNF at gc.com or not??
  12. To edit the startup message, use notepad or similar program to edit the file UnitDriveLetter\Garmin\startup.txt There are instructions in the file, too.
  13. Just updated my 400t here at work and stuck it out in the car to get good satellite locks and ephemeris data for half an hour. Looking forward to the new features. Looks like they went right down a punchlist and knocked out a few features people were asking for.
  14. this is pretty convenient. http://www.takitwithme.com/
  15. I've used the Oregon400t on my motorcycle since the riding season has begun. Probably about 20 hours on the road with it. Rigged in a power cable. So far, so good. Matt
  16. Seems like it should be doable for them with some new code. Email them the suggestion.
  17. Should also pose the question "What gpsr do you own?". You'll find a common theme. People generally tout what they own and diminish what they don't...even if they haven't touched the others. It's really hard to get an impartial opinion.
  18. To elaborate on my earlier post about not getting signal from sats 5, 10, 15, etc. The mystery sat 01 is there and unit was receiving signal from it and then signal appeared to cut off as it has been doing. The others appear to be in the sky and viewable but not getting signal from them...or unit is not interpreting it correctly...or something else.
  19. You can load and view images on the Oregon if the need arises. It's not automated with caches but if you must have images in the field it is doable with the Oregon.
  20. Hopefully others will sound off here. Does the unit have to be in 'spanner' mode to transmit live data?
  21. There is something screwed up with the Oregon's handling of sat 01. Sats 05, 10 and 15 also seem 'unreadable' to my unit. Awaiting v2.96...
