  1. Ah, the rush of the FTF! Garnered my first 2 on my 2nd day of caching! Definitely put the hooks in me, and now I must confess I am one of the Hounds. Sometimes work gets in the way of chasing them, and recently missed out on a few because of vehicular problems. In the dark, in the rain, it's all good. I was fortunate to have a cacher give me a FTF coin - http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=2060613 - which I dip into all the caches I am lucky enough to get to first. Is it an obsession? No more than geocaching in general... ;)

  2. With very few exceptions, if I have had to do extensive bushwhacking to a cache, I have found an easier way OUT. I don't think the CO wants the experience of severe briar wrestling any more than I do, so keep an open mind about possible points of attack and alternate routes to GZ. I have placed a cache (The Point) that requires almost 0.5 mile passage through rough vegetation. All the while going in, I was looking for the easiest possible access. For every rule however, there is always an exception... Use Your Equipment

  3. I log my finds in the order that they happen, and let the milestones fall where they may. Much of the time they occur in the middle of an out-of-town run, so there is just no way to plan a special one to mark. One that fell very nicely was the virtual at Geronimo's burial plot, in Lawton, OK. But that was just luck. I've had them on a power run, an LPC, etc. I won't drive miles out of the way or make special plans for milestones. I make an itinerary before I leave the house and stick to it, as much as possible. Just one DNF would throw off the entire scheme on one of those runs, if I were trying to target a cache for a milestone. It would be sweet to get a FTF when a milestone # comes around though! But I won't wait around, anticipating it.

  4. The first rule I play by is...THERE ARE NO CHISELED IN STONE RULES!! I have logged DNFs, stating that I would erase it at a later date when I find it (and did it). I have not logged DNFs, stating later in the Found It log that it took me multiple attempts to find the cache. I have logged DNFs when I know that I will not be in the area again anytime soon. I have seen signatures on the paper log and no virtual log of their visit at all. Bottom line is this...if ya wanna log DNFs because you want to let the community know that ya gave it a shot and it just didn't work out...so be it. If you do it because you think there might be a problem with the hide...do it. If you just didn't get in your hands and you don't want to make a declaration on it....guess what.. no biggie!! Your call...play the game as it fits into your life, your beliefs, your way of enjoying Geocachiing!!

  5. Neat... but what if someone assumes its trash & tosses it into their CITO bag?

Well intentioned mooks would be my concern as well.

Still, I give it major props for creativity. :P

I have maybe $3 total invested... will place it well away from accidental discovery by muggles... hopefully any cachers will have geosense tuned in and see what they have in their hand. Sadistic placement would be the fenceline along the city dump...but hey, I'm a nice guy! :P
