  1. Thanks everyone. I deleted them off the unit and tried installing them on the card only to fail a few times. Googled how to put them on the card and had to use the gpx folder under garmin on the card. Hopefully I will remember that next time. Everything works good again or at least i think it does.
  2. Okay its been awhile since I last loaded a pocket query into my unit but this time I can't read cache descriptions. I did an update on Friday and loaded 2 new queries but now I lock up when I click on the title or cache descriptions. It goes to a blank screen and locks. I have to hind power button down for 5-10 seconds to reboot it or remove the batteries. What do I need to do?
  3. I just did this the other day running with my kids. I used the stop watch and started it at the beginning of our run and at the end and got the distance traveled. Not sure if starting and stopping it while driving will stop the distance but maybe try that. I will be doing more of it so I can try it.
  4. Why is it my Oregon 450 screen never goes completely dark when in the geocaching mode? It does in other profiles.
  5. When I applied this update, my GPS Mode was reset to "Normal" (WAAS off), I had to go to Setup->System->GPS-> and select WAAS/EGNOS and then it's been working fine after that. Check this setting... You know just before I read this I was thinking about it and wondered if I should check that. Lack of experience on my part with these updated. Should check things before I post things I guess. I'll check after work and see how she is set up. Thanks, Rob
  6. I'm not getting the little D on the satellite page now. Is WASS messed up now? Had the thing on for over an hour while driving around at lunch time with not one lock. Used to lock all the time.
  7. Which one is the 4000mb file and how long will that take to download on a T1 line? Work might get mad if it takes too long.
  8. So how has this beta been doing? I have never loaded a beta and would like to try this one. Seems to be it must be working good because there is not a lot of negative feedback here. I did do a web updater a week or so ago and it did say I had the latest on what is out there right now. Not sure you can guage feedback by the number of responses, but I do know when things don't work people are all over here.
  9. Okay this one La Crosse Technology BC-9009 AlphaPower Battery Charger or this one La Crosse Technology BC-700 Alpha Power Battery Charger
  10. Is there much difference with these 2 chargers. Seems to be something as there is a $14.00 difference between the two of them. Seems everyone lkike them both, but dont know if one offers something the other one doesn't Going to pull the trigger on a charger and some eneloops hopefully today. La Crosse Technology BC-9009 AlphaPower Battery Charger Maha Powerex Wizard One MH-C9000 Advanced Battery Charger and Analyzer
  11. What is the capacity of the enloops everyone is buying? I'm only seeing 2000.
  12. So where is everyone getting there Sanyo Eneloops now days? also is there a good place to get them and the 9000 charger together at a good price?
  13. Not sure if I installed something wrong or not but how do I use OSM map to find a specific address. When I try on my Oregon 450 it asks for the state and says state no valid. I only have my state on there with OSM maps. Also is there a way to only show one point of interest note in the POI folder? I have many maps loaded and if each one has a school or hospital or anything loaded it shows multiple times in the POI folders.
  14. Okay this makes no sense at all. Today I downloaded OSM for Michigan and loaded it on my unit and the start up time went down to 10-12 seconds from the 45 plus. Don't understand why it was taking so long and then I add more and it speeds up. Oh well I like the quicker speed.
  15. Thanks guys. I will try the Mapsource thing later today or tomorrow maybe. I have that program and think i might be able to play around with it. Lot size is 1697 x 264 i think so I can just plot a few way point along the way.
  16. northerpenguin, Do I need to pay $300.00 for a license to be able to do what I want with putting a square in my gpe for a map?
  17. Coggins, Is GlobalMapper a pay program? Looks like it is to me. I see a free trial, but how long does that last and it looks very limited.
  18. Thanks for the comments on the accuracy. Keep in mind as I said in my first post that most all the neighbors are really nice. In addition I am only doing this to make sure a few trees are or are not on our property. If the gps accurancy is off by more that 15-20 feet I will have to decide if I need to talk to the neighbor or not. Just looking for a guideline. Thanks again, Rob
  19. I have an Oregon 450 and my question is below. Is there a way to draw up a square that is to scale for a plot of property and then load that into the gps? I have a plot for a 10 acre lot with the dimensions which are square. I believe I have found 1 corner and have marked it. Can I load a .dxf or some other file and put it on that spot and project one or more of the other corners and place that file over it. I work with CAD everyday and .dxf seem to export the easiest as this is a CAD program for designing packaging. Just looking to find approximate line for my mom lot that I grew up on. Mainly want to make sure some maples are on her lot or if I need to ask the neighbors(which are all nice) if I can tap the trees. I tried projecting the corners out and walk the line but doing that will keep me close to the line, but I would like to be just walking around and see the lines not try to move to the line from the projected points.
  20. All my maps are from gpsfiledepot. What I have loaded is above in post #5.
  21. I'm still confused why my class 4 is taking 46 seconds with 1.4GBs on it. Bullygoat29 great feedback. I wonder if the manufacturer of the card makes a difference now. Maybe I will just pick up a 16GB card of class 6-10 and try it anyway. Thanks again.
  22. Given the processor speed and data requirements, I'd bet that Class 10 is total overkill. Wish I had a Class 6 to see if there was any improvement over my Class 4. Scrolling is smooth enough now with the 4, however. My scroll speed is sometimes slow especially when i am zoomed out to about 12 miles and want to pan from lower pennisula of Michigan to Upper pennisule.
  23. It there a max speed that the Oregons can handle. Maybe I will go with a class 10 if they can handle it.
  24. I would not disagree that were are splitting hair, but hey speed is speed. Just trying to figure out if we can speed things up or not. Seems like others are getting a lot faster start time then I am. Does anyone know what the segment size of the preloaded map data on the Oregon 450 is? Might try looading some maps onto the unit itself to see if that speeds anything up to. Thanks again.
  25. dxf Awesome info. I wonder if it is the amount of gpsfiledepot maps that i have on the card itself. Looks like you have some on the device and some on the card. Also looks like your maps are all Garmin maps versus the free ones I have. maybe I should pony up and get the Garmin ones. It also looks like you have a bit over 900MB of maps both on the unit and on the card. The birdseye look to take a bit of your time. Do you think if I put a couple of the maps on the unit that would speed it up any?
