Thanks very much, I understand now. But I've installed Javawa on my Mac and I don't see how to get the .img files onto it so I can change their internal headers. There doesn't seem to be an option within Javawa to load .img files, only to create backups, which is not what I want to do. I'm not a Mac user, but there looks to be a good guide on using JaVaWa with a Mac at http://springerphotographics.com/2014/03/21/using-javawa-gmtk-to-fix-open-street-map-garmin-files/ When you select the maps at garmin.openstreetmap.nl you are emailed a link to several versions of your chosen tile set. One of those versions is Mac installable. After you have installed it, it should appear as an editable choice in JaVaWa. When you have edited and saved it, you would use MapManager, BaseCamp, or MapInstall to transfer it to the GPS. As indicated in the referenced guide, be sure those utilities are closed while editing the map with JaVaWa. Thank you Cliptwings and Hans. UPDATE: I downloaded the Freizeitkarte map of US Pacific. Meh, not nearly as good as the OSM map of the area.

I have been using OSM maps with my Oregon 600 for the last 4 or 5 years, and have been pleasantly surprised with the number of trails and pathways that are shown on the map. The map area I am referring to is California. I recently learned that Garmin is selling their own version of OSM maps for Europe and parts of Asia and Africa. Garmin TOPO Light web page I would be interested in purchasing the Garmin TOPO Light version of the West Coast of the US. Does anyone have any information regarding the eventual availability of Garmin TOPO Light maps of the US? Thank you

Yes. As I said a couple of posts up, Webupdated downloaded the file and then immediately said it was corrupted and that my Oregon 600 was not updated. Sviking, I am not sure it this will work, but it is worth a try. I suggest that you remove the micro sd card fro the Oregon, reboot and try the update again, without the micro sd card installed. If that doesn't work I suggest you contact Garmin tech support. They may have a suggestion that will allow you to upgrade to 3.80.

I use a Macintosh computer. Earlier today I used Garmin Express (version 2.5.3) to upgrade my Oregon 600 from firmware 3.70 to 3.80. The update was uneventdful and the Oregon 600 is now running firmware 3.80. In addition, so far I have had no problems using 3.80.

Yogazoo, I have had no problems whatsoever with 3.70. I have used my Oregon 600 multiple times every day since firmware 3.70 was introduced on 31 January, and I am still booting the 600 using firmware 3.70. However, I am not using any Garmin maps on my Oregon 600. The only map I am using is an OSM of the West coast of the United States.

I used my eTrex 20 when I visited Vietnam during March 2013. I only used the eTrex 20 as a track logger. I was very pleased with its accuracy and its excellent battery life. Well, I tried that, but of course for me, it didn't work. Got the map file, but when I put it on the SD card, it didn't show on the GPSr. Worked fine a couple of years ago when I did the same with CN. It sucks being technically handicapped when it comes to things like this. Hmm, let me see if I can make some suggestions to get the OSM map readable on your gps'r. First, do you have a folder named garmin on your sd card? If not, please put a folder named garmin on the SD card, and then put the OSM map within the garmin folder. Name the OSM map whatever you wish. i.e., osm.idaho.img. Make sure you have the OSM map chosen as the active map on your gps'r and make sure the Garmin map is not active. That should do it. If you still are unable to view the OSM map, please let me know what Garmin model you are using, the size of the OSM map you are trying to install and the size of the SD card. BTW, go here: www.openstreetmap.org to see what the OSM map looks like in the area of your interest
