  1. You can download you tracks and save then as a file, and view then on a topo map or aerial map. Draw tracks onto a map upload then into you GPS, plot waypoints, create waypoints, for the price you can do just about anything you can thing of doing with your GPS. This program I think is great, other then caching, I use it for hunting, tracking deer movement every few weeks from mid summer to early fall. This gives me an advantage were to place tree stands for the upcoming bow-hunting season.
  2. Yes, I had to be the first to vote: Yes, benchmarks should be counted as a find, but on a separate category

  4. I feel that this should be counted. What is the different finding a locationless or a virtual cache, were there is no container filled with McD toys or Where’s George Money. We’re still use a GPS or compass to find then as any other cache. I thing it is a nice treat being able to have access to find these markers, it’s quite a challenge in some cases finding then after many years. In addition, I thing most people would like to be recognized finding these markers. Please comments; I would be interested hearing what people think. My poll questions are:

  6. Reading the above postings, getting reception indoors without a visual sight to the sky, the Legend, Magellan 330 & Magellan Meridian all have a WAAS receivers. Could this be the reason why they are receiving some limited reception indoors?

  11. quote: From True Grit: Look in the center of the X and see if there is a surveyors nail there. I decided to check out the white X marks a little further. There is a marker in the center, a round flat plate imbedded into the ground about inch deep. The grade stakes has writing on them TMF GPS #100, I found 3 sites #100, #102 & #103 Thanks for all the replys. . .

  13. For several weeks now I have noticed white "X" made of cloth or plastic marking (4 to 6 feet in size) with a grade-stake in the center. I believe this is for aerial photography mapping purposes. Just wondering if anyone else has seen this on the side of the roads? Could this mean new or better maps will be coming out I the future?
  14. I bring two compass’s with me, a mapping compass with adjustable bearing dial and a $2.99 pin compass (K-mart or Wal-Mart), pin it to my shirt pocket, I like the pin compass because it’s always there when ever I need it. Ever since I started Bow-hunting, I’ve always ware one every time going into the woods. One thing everyone must remember before heading into the woods, check what direction to get back out before stating in. Compass isn’t any good if you don’t know what direction to go, if your GPS should die in the woods. In addition, on one should ever go into the woods without a compass and knowing how to use one.

  16. In order to show your position you have to be moving, unless you can make an Internet connection, it cannot track your position. I believe of you have this on a laptop and have down loaded maps it will track you your position. If I’m wrong someone please correct me.

  18. I too have had similar problems only once, having XpertGPS. In my case the missing maps were over large lakes. I just write if off to there is no mapping available. Other than that, XpertGPS has done well for me.

  20. A month ago, we meet up with another cacher (first timer) with a yellow eTrex. We were under some tree cover (on leaves) My mag 315 was showing 5 satellites, the etrex only had 2 satellites showing. null

  22. How did you get those numbers, at 9:55PM eastern time I only see 11,613 registered members. Copied from About Geocaching: As of today, there are 18946 active caches in 123 countries. In the last 7 days, there have been 11418 new logs written by 3624 account holders. Did I miss something?
  23. With the resent information reported, how long will it be before the government bands GPS’s from air travel?

  25. I haven’t noticed any posting yet, XpertGPS upgraded their software sometime in April to version 1.1.1 well worth the download.
