I just got my Oregon 400t a couple weeks ago and have gone through several sets of batteries. I am also having a problem I wonder if you are having. When I press "Go" to a cache location and the path to the cache is drawn, if I rotate the GPS, the path to the cache moves with the GPS and does not redraw to the correct path to the location. I would like to know if this is a known issue or if it is something specific to my GPS.

I had a Garmin 60GxS and it was stolen. I replaced it with an Oregon 400t. I like the 400 because of it's paperless function. You can download the files directly to the unit and I have not had any issues seeing the screen in the sunlight. The only problem that I have is when you select "go" to a cache and it plots a line to the cache; when you turn the gps in another direction, the ploted line to the cache does not return to the actual direction of the cache. It just follows the GPS as you turn it. I sent Garmin an email about this issue and their response was to reset it. Naturally, this did not help. My 60GsX never had that issue, but it did not have paperless caching. I really like the paperless feature of the Oregon. Currently if you are looking for accuracy, then the Oregon is not there yet. But everything else about the GPS is great!

I am using the 3.10 Version of SW. I did not try disabling the compass. Is it the compass that makes the path to the Cache not refresh?

I know this is not the first time anyone on here has mentioned the Compass lockup on an Oregon, but I went out at lunch and the first thing it did was lockup. It would show me the path to my cache and when I turned the GPS, it would not correct itself. Before this Oregon 400t I had a 60GsX and never had a problem with it. I like the paperless aspect of the Oregon, but there are some BIG issues they need to fix on it. How many others experiencing this issue and does anyone know if Garmin is going to address this problem? I am beginning to want my 60GsX back now.

Where do you get the Beta Versions of Firmware? Also, do they normally crash a lot. I don't want to put something on my Oregon and have it crash all of the time.

I had been using a Garmn 60CSX until it was stolen a few weeks ago and I replaced it with an Oregon 400t. As I looked for a new GPS, each model had it's pluses and minuses. Not sure why Garmin can't make one that has the good features of both but that is another issue. My 60CSX was very fast and accurate. However, it did not have a Paperless function as did the Oregon. I decided on the Oregon simply because of the Paperless feature. Was it worth giving up the quickness of the 60CSX? I think so. I really like being able to look for caches without taking around a huge notebook of papers. The Oregon has it's quirks concerning pointing me in the right direction to the cache, but I have learned to work around them. Also, all the fuss over not being to see the screen was overkill. I don't have any problem seeing the screen in any daylight condition. I do wish it had the same antenna as the 60 and I think there are some shortcomings with the chipset, but overall the Oregon 400t is one of the best Handheld GPSs on the Market. The 60CSX is definitely a workhorse of a GPS but technology is leaving it in the dust. I would highly recommend both of them, but for me, I think the Oregon has a slight advantage over the 60CSX. So what's your opinion of the two GPSs???? Or is there another one you like best????

Is there a way to load more than one Cache at a time into a Garmin Nuvi. I like to use a Nuvi to get me to the general location and then use my handheld one to find the cache. However, I would love to be able to do a batch load into the Nuvi. Any suggestions?

I am having the same problem. I have tried sending it to my Comcast and Yahoo account with no success. On the Geocaching site, under the "Generated" column it says "Never". So apparently it has never been generated. Anyone know what the problem could be?

I have the same GPSr. Here's how you do it. 1. Unzip the file you get in your email. You should see 2 files ending with .gpx. Both will be named with a long number. One of them will end with -wpts.gpx. The one ending with the -wpts.gpx is filled with any additional waypoints (parking coordinates, etc.). The other one has the geocaches. 2. Plug your Oregon into the computer using the included cable. It will appear as an additional drive on your computer. 3. When you see it drag the files you unzipped to the Garmin/GPX folder. That's it. When you want to find the geocaches, go to the icon marked Geocaches on the Oregon. If you want to find the additional waypoints, go to Where to?/Waypoints. The only step that remains is to leave your house and find a cache! Carolyn Thanks very much.

How do you get your pocket queries moved to your gps once you have created one? I am trying to put them on my Oregon 400T.

Actually Roddy, if the PQ is massaged in GSAK first, you can also get all the logs (up to the 15000 character limit of course). Ahhh, beyond my scope of ability! Good to know though! My Biggest concern with the PN-40 is the screen size. It seems to have lots of the things I am looking for, but the screen appears to be tiny (especially for an old man like me ).

It all depends on your expectations and what you want to do with it. It has the same chipset as the Oregon and it has had it's fair share of issues right along with the Oregon. I personally have had no problems with mine and I'm very happy with it and its capabilities. I'm sure others will chime in with their horror stories. Yeah. It seems that some like one and give reasons why they don't like the others. Then there are other people who like other ones and give their horror stories of why they would not buy other brands. Personally, I want one that is reasonably accurate under heavy cover and would like to have paperless (but is not a requirement). Out of the box, the PN will deliver on this with nothing extra required to buy although a FW update is highly recommended if you find it under 2.5. There is a learning curve and there isn't a very high local community support yet but the online community support is strong and will help out in the DeLorme forums and to some extent in these forums. Customer Phone Support is especially strong (although some folks seem to have had issues) but their email support is relatively weak even though they have a strong presence in both fourms. There have been QC issues, but DeLorme tech support is very quick to respond to these issues although it seems some folks have had repeat problems even with repaired units. My take is the first generation PN-40's (those that come with Topo7) are more likely to have issues than those shipping with Topo8, but I'm not speakng from any scientific observation. I would agree with all said here! The learning curve isn't for the PN-40 though, but for the TOPO 8 mapping software which is included with purchase! The PN-40 is easy to use, easy to load with caches or maps, holds great reception even in the thick tree coverage I've seen...I love my PN-40! Is it harder to load Caches into the PN-40 than in a Garmin? Also, will the Paperless feature include some of the Log files?

I always had to carry around a three ring binder with my printouts. But I don't want to sacrifice accuracy for that. When you are deep in the woods, you want a GPS that you can count on to be accurate. It saves much time. Does anyone know if the Oregon or Colorado is as accurate under a heavy tree canopy as the 60CSx is? How does the DeLorme PN-40 compare to the three above?

The Colorado 400T still has some issues. If you want to be patient and hope they fix it, it's a great unit. I like the Colorado because it has the external antenna. My 60CSx was very accurate even under a canopy of trees. However, I like being able to go paperless. I am going to wait a few months before buying a handheld GPS and see what improvements Garmin makes.

Last night someone stone my Navigation GPS and my hand held one. Now I need to buy both of them again. What I had was a Garmin NUVI 160 and a Garmin GPSMap 60CSx. I figure I will buy a Garmin NUVI 165W for my car, but I am having a difficult decision whether to buy another Garmin GPSMap 60CSx, a Colorado 400T or an Oregon 400T. I know there have been discussions on this before; but with some of the updated Software I wanted to get other opinions and why you would buy the one you recommend. Also, is there anything other than Garmin or something coming in the near future that would be better. Thanks for your help.
